Tonight is the pre-season grand final between Adelaide and West Coast. Are all the other games official pre-season games or are they just practice matches?

I think they are technically 'NAB Challenge'-type games.

I feel that once a score hits 140, it's pretty much an elite-ish score.

One that doesn't happen regularly over the years.
137 - 84 times - last 2009
138 - 62 times - last 2007
139 - 72 times - last 2011
140 - 70 times - last 2007
141 - 73 times - last 2009
142 - 56 times - last 2011
143 - 62 times - last 2011
144 - 62 times - last 2007
145 - 65 times - last 2011
146 - 51 times - last 2011
147 - 47 times - last 2011
148 - 40 times - last 2011
149 - 59 times - last 2011
150 - 38 times - last 2011
151 - 57 times - last 2010

All scores 36 to 129 have each occurred more than 100 times.
The highest score to have occurred more than 100 times is 133 (110 times.)

All scores from 30 to 166 have occurred at least once in the last 5 seasons except 42 (last in 2004).

1,469 times, which includes 238 of the 256 100-point wins.

You are a genius mate. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:.

How you keep churning out the figures is beyond me.

You are a statistical god. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:.

Keep on churning out these gems.

P.s. I'm gonna record these scores of 140 or more (excluding the 100 pointers as I have them in a separate Notepad file.)

It's gonna be an exhaustive task but I'm willing to do it.

P.p.s. how long have you been compiling these oddities and quirks for?

You are a genius mate. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

But not a perfect one! You got the 136 figures for 137 (its been corrected)
137 - 84 times - last 2009 not 81 times last 2011 which is for 136.
(Copied them off the screen instead of exporting them from the database.)

How you keep churning out the figures is beyond me.
Put all the results into a database and ask the computer to count them how you want.

Limited manipulator of scores and results.

Keep on churning out these gems.
You are aware of RogersResults ?

PM me your email and I'll send you a list of all the 140 plus scores.

Started entering on the computer soon after you could have such a thing at home. All the computer knows are all the match scores 1897-2011, then you just have to ask the right questions.

Nah it's ok Rogers but thanks for the offer.

I feel like I'm asking for too much here.

RogersResults, the best thing to come from Wagga since Paul Kelly.

P.s. I'm aware of your site.

I go to it via KT's Footystats.

Only take a couple of minutes if you want your own list of 140 plus scores.

. And the Chiko Roll!

If it includes the quarter time, half time, 3/4 time and full time scores, I'll PM you my email name.

Sorry if this one has been asked before:

Are 6 day breaks statistically relevant? Is there a significant difference in winning percentage when a team has a day (or more) less of a break than another?

With the usual disclaimer (i.e. it may be complete cack) I make it 40 wins 13 losses and a draw for the team with a 6 day break (when the other team had more than 6) in 2011.

Alltime P 1449, W 710, L 721, D 18. Only happened once to 1979, in 1970.

I'm not set up to verify whether its cack or not but the alltime figures suggest no significant difference but which were the teams in 2011?

In 1909 round 6 was played on Saturday 5 June. All teams then played round 7 on Monday 7 June. The only noticeable difference was that average scores were 7 points higher on the Monday.

Got the same 710-721-18 breakdown for 6-day breaks as Paul.

Although without knowing who had the shorter and longer breaks there seems to be no significant disadvantage. Get the figures to the League and the clubs and maybe some more rounds could be got in with shorter turnaround times for everybody. Might keep the draw wingeing down some.;)

Whenever I've compiled stats on this in the past, it's (the disadvantage) always appeared to be a fallacy. Since it involves only selected games you'd need to analyse ladder positions etc. to ensure no bias has been introduced. It's also possible teams modify their preparations with a shorter lead-in in order to mitigate the perceived disadvantage. But over a large sample, you'd still expect the handicap to be evident, if it existed. There's an argument to be made that a shorter break might actually work in favour of a team coming off a bad loss and eager to atone.

Harking back to when the night series was conducted on Tuesday evenings during the regular season and clubs managed to field most of the regulars gives cause for wonder, yet playing three games in eight days was never raised as a major issue...

They players are fitter. Football is all they do. They are on the ground less time. 5 days between matches would enable everyone to play each other twice from the middle of March to the first week of September. Pre-season cup could be eliminated to make for more room and some breaks later in the season - interchange increased. TV stations would probably go for it but I feel it will never happen.

There is the perception that 34 rounds is just too long. I suspect less teams or conferences to enable all playing each other twice is much more likely eventually.

Have any players finished their careers with the same amount of games and goals? (with a "reasonable" career of 50 games or more)
