And that being an 18 game season, a 22 game blank can steal the whatever-is-opposite-to-lime light

Has any team lost 19 consecutive games in the one home and away season?

If not, Gold Coast could be 0-18 when they next play GWS.

West Coast, 6-0, lost to Essendon by 61 points. Where does this rank for biggest losses for an undefeated club (6-0 or better)?

And do any 5-0 clubs make that list?

Hawthorn kicked at least 6 behinds in each quarter tonight. How many times has this occurred?

And what's the most behinds kicked in each quarter of a game (by one side)?

I'm guessing it's 8 (http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1977/101519770507.html)

then 7 (http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1938/091619380604.html)

And how about the most kicked in at least 3 quarters? Looks like 9 I reckon.

And the most in 2 quarters looks like 12 - http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1936/051619360822.html

Wow, so the Hawks on Friday night broke the longest drought in history (23 years) for consistent inaccurate scoring over 4 quarters!

Trivia question rather than stats question.

Is there much information available about the Second Twenties competition of the 1870s?

10 rounds into the NRL and the ladder is almost exactly symmetrical. in fact if they didn't have byes it would be regardless of the result between wests tigers and souths - the only two teams who have had byes so far....

what is the deepest into the VFL/AFL season that the competition ladder has been perfectly symmetrical??

could possibly be a fairly tough query to run...??

A bit curly so I won't claim this as definitive, but I think the answer is Round 12 (1940, 12 teams and 1907, 8 teams).

Excluding the draws column and matching wins for the top half with losses for the bottom half - Round 18 (1980).

I noticed that 6 teams (quick look so may have missed some) have been on top the entire year

Fitzroy 1904
Collingwood 1915
Essendon 1923
Geelong 1953
West Coast 1991
Essendon 2000

and 5 times that a team has spent the entire year on the bottom.

Has any team spent the whole year in the same position other than top or bottom? I'm guessing that 2nd or 2nd last would be the only other spots where a team stays in the same position

and 5 times that a team has spent the entire year on the bottom.

I make it 8 (including Sydney who had the bye in Round 1 in 1993).

St.Kilda 1898
University 1913
North Melbourne 1931
St.Kilda 1948
Hawthorn 1950
St.Kilda 1985
Sydney 1993
Melbourne 2008

Can't find a team which was in a position other than top or bottom for an entire season, though my ladders are calculated according to match ratio, regardless of the official ladders of the time, and hence may differ from the official version in seasons involving byes. The most I can find is

Richmond 11th/12, 1983, 19/22 rounds
Geelong 2nd/16, 2009, 19/22
Richmond 13th/15, 1991, 18/24
Melbourne 9th/10, 1910, 17/18
North Melbourne 11th/12, 1955, 17/18
Richmond 5th/12, 1968, 17/20
Carlton 3rd/12, 1984, 17/22
Brisbane 15th/17, 2011, 17/24
Essendon 2nd/10, 1908, 16/18
Footscray 7th/12, 1972, 16/22
Geelong 11th/12, 1973, 16/22
Geelong 11th/12, 1975, 16/22
North Melbourne 2nd/12, 1979, 16/22
Melbourne 9th/12, 1980, 16/22
Melbourne 9th/12, 1982, 16/22
Sydney 2nd/12, 1986, 16/22
Fremantle 15th/16, 1999, 16/22

have we ever had 5 guys in the one season to cross the 500 goal barrier (unlikely i'd say), because this year it may well happen

2012:
jonathon brown
stephen milne
matthew pavlich
nick riewoldt
lance franklin

3 is the most, in

1936 - Pratt, Mohr, Titus (spanning 98 days)
1990 - Madden, Dunstall, Lockett (7 days)
2009 - Tredrea, Fevola, O'Loughlin (21 days)
2012 - Brown, Milne, Pavlich (22 days)

Madden & Dunstall are the only pair of players to pass 500 on the same day.

Not sure how you'd find this out but when was the last time a game was won by a kick after the siren?>

Was it Jordan McMahon in 2009 for Richmond versus Melbourne?

At the end of round 7 this season, there were 12 teams with a percentage of 100 or more. I would presume this would have to be a record at the end of any one round.

In terms of percentage (ie: 12 out of 18 teams), this equals 66.6%, or 67 if you round it off. A quick glance at end of year ladders shows that in 1914 there were 8 out of 10 teams with a percentage of 100 or more, equating to 80%. This stat also applies to rounds 10, 13 and 17 that season. Can any other rounds equal or exceed 80%?

Round 4 of 1916 had 75% of teams with 100% or more:

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/seas/1916.html#4

Round 8 in 1993 had 11/15 (73.3%) with the Western Bulldogs on 99.05%, just 7 points shy of 100%. That would have made it 12/15 or 80.0%.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/seas/1993.html#8
http://www.finalsiren.com/AFLLadder.asp?AFLLadderTypeID=1&SeasonID=1993&Round=8-1&Go=Go

One round prior, 10 teams were 100% or more with St Kilda on 95.26% (34 points shy of 100%) and the Western Bulldogs on 94.66% (35 points shy of 100%). Yet it was the Brisbane Bears on 83.54% (136 points shy of 100%) that defeated Sydney by 162 points who increased their percentage to 102.94%.

Another interesting round is Round 1 in 1914 with 7/10 teams with a 100% or more:

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/seas/1914.html#1

80 is the highest percentage, for four rounds in 1914.

Round 16 1946 - 9/12
Round 13 1959 - 9/12

Various rounds between 1897 and 1907 had 6/8 above 100%.
