With GWS Giants player Toby Greene in the news at the moment - unfortunately for all the wrong reasons - I noticed that he was born on Saturday 25 September 1993 which was Grand Final day that season, with Essendon defeating Carlton.

Does anyone know of any other players who were born on Grand Final day? The majority would of course be the star sign Libra, but there might be a handful of Virgos and Scorpios if the GF was particularly early or late for some reason.

Scott Lycett was born on the day of West Coast's first flag. (26-09-1992.)

Thanks Ron the Bear, that was amazing.

Although Lycett was the only player to play in a premiership team for the same team that won the day he was born, Essendon players Gary Grainger (1949) and Ricky Dyson (1985) were born on the same day as Essendon won the premiership, while Jack Cross (1908) was born when Essendon were runner up.

Reg Knipe for Fitzroy was born the same day the Lions won the 1905 flag, while John Sheahan (Richmond), Craig Stewart (Collingwood) and Nicky Winmar (St. Kilda) were born on the same days in 1942, 1956 and 1965 where the Tigers, Magpies and Saints finished runner up.

I wonder if former Hawk Jack Flanagan lived long enough on 30th September 1978 to see Hawthorn defeat North Melbourne Kangaroos by 18-points to win the premiership?

Recently it was reported that Manchester United have set a new EPL record of 28 successive away games without defeat (obviously over consecutive seasons). Is anyone able to determine:

a) the most successive away wins in VFL/AFL history?
b) the most successive away wins for each club (including Fitzroy)?

Factor in draws if necessary in order to determine "successive away games without defeat".

AFL Tables site looks to have system set up to answer variety of questions such as those..
Collingwood, for example, had 18 "successive away games without defeat" in 1928-30 period

With Essendon last week being the first side to be held goal-less in a Final since Geelong's loss to the Dogs in the 1956 1st Semi, I just decided to peruse that game on the AFL tables site.

I noticed that Max Cross kicked 4 of the Doggies' 5 goals that game, but not only that, he kicked 52 goals in 16 games that season. For that era, that's a pretty good strike rate at a time when the average score was about 70 points. And just as remarkably, he kicked just 2 goals in his 5 games in 1957, and that was his VFL career!

A little bit like Greg Kennedy of Carlton, who emerged in 1972 with 76 goals (albeit in a much higher scoring era) and then two tallies in the 30's before his career ended after 1974.I know not many on here would probably have seen Cross, but that's quite fascinating that one could burst onto the scene in a season like that then vanish...he's like the predecessor of Adrian McAdam, who did a similar thing in 1993.

Was he a then future Footscray coach of the U19's or magoos?

Used to love those in the footy records of the 70's and 80's. Particularly in the Finals versions. One day i'll need to check among the several boxes in my shed of my stash of them from 1978 until around the early 2000's. Indeed as a young Cat fan in the late 70's and 80's it was a wistful look at when Geelong played finals, especially by the time it was the early 80's and '51-'52-'63 got a guernsey.

It is handy that they are available online (to read/download), and searching them can be done quite easily as well.

Lachie Neale is 4 wins, 9 losses in Finals. Where does that stack up in regards to the worst record? Or worst win % (min: 5 games)?

Just reading this cannot help but want to see Heppell get out to 6 or 7.
I think I remember hearing Rene Kink played in the most grand finals without ever experiencing a winning one.
Six I believe. Five with Collingwood and think he played in Essendon 1983 loss too.
