I understand your motivation on here - you are going try to pump up Allen and Reid all season before they go to market.

In Allen's case its like putting lipstick and a dress on a pig before you head off to the annual market in the nearby town.

There is a lot more money in the system as a result of sports gambling and not enough good players to fill 18 clubs. I have no idea how they will fill 19.

People will point at "population growth" and "Auskick" but neither of those things are producing more players.

Most new migrants are Indian and Chinese and they aren't interested in playing footy.
Auskick is largely glorified babysitting.

Interest in the game and fan numbers are clearly up but not necessarily serious players aged 16 to 19. The key ages for player production.

Sounds like made up info to me, a lot more Australians every year than immigrants. Of the new arrivals, it’s the 2nd generation’s kids who are born here who end up playing. Look at all the Italian / Greek heritage players.

The base is growing but there will always be crap teams and good teams, the more teams just means the gap looks bigger rather than anything wrong with the standard or amount of kids coming through.

Allen was putrid on the weekend. If he's replaced by Waterman we win that game. I'm fine with him heading off at the end of the year and obtaining a 1st round compo pick (likey pick 3 let's be honest) for him.

Where do you get data that the bulk of the population growth is Chinese and Indian descent & none have kids that will play footy?

I live in multicultural Australia and my kids have a few Indians and Chinese kids in their teams. They play against some other suburbs with a lot more.

Agree that kids of Indian and Chinese migrants by and large prefer other sports to Aussie Rules.

The East African diaspora is completely different however, amazing how quickly those kids have adopted Aussie Rules (and netball for the daughters).
