"Best individual performance in the TAC Grand Final since it's inception"

STEELE SIDEBOTTOM

182cm 79kg

Midfielder with great skills who kicks well on both sides. Doesn’t waste possession.

I think he missed 4 shots in a row in the last quarter as well, 14 shots on goal from a midfielder is outstanding. Listening on 3AW Robert Walls is already in love with him:D

Well, weve drafted on basis of TAC Grand Final before. I think Steele has much better wraps on him than Stevens did though.

I watched it and he was very good. But the opposition wasn't much chop. He wont be big enough to be a KPP but his stocks are going in the opposite way to world stock markets.

Probably a bit like Paul Evans who kicked 9 goals for SA to win the 1995 u/18 champs. Dominated a big game at under age level but wont be big enough to do it at AFL level.

Looked OK but nothing special that says pick me at 4.

Still prefer Hartlett.

Based on that vid only:-

Doesn't mind throwing himself in to get the hard ball.
Good second efforts.
Disposal quite good.
Doesn't look to be blessed with much speed.

Didn't look like pick 4 to me but that's based on very limited vision.

Apparently not. Should be on time for the team bus then.

Sidebottom dominates TAC grand final
26th September 2008, 16:30 WST

The Murray Bushrangers have won the prestigious TAC Cup competition with a thumping 81-point win over the Dandenong Stingrays in this afternoon’s grand final at Telstra Dome in Melbourne.

The TAC Cup, Victoria’s equivalent to the WAFL colts competition, is widely regarded as the nation’s premier underage tournament.

The match was dominated by Bushrangers midfielder-forward Steel Sidebottom, who won a game-high 32 possessions and booted 10.3 to claim best on ground honours.

Many of Sidebottom’s goals were booted when pushing forward from his midfield role, where he dominated at the stoppages and had 11 inside 50s.

Sidebottom, who had a dream game under the watching eyes of the nation’s talent scouts, is one of many players from the game sure to be drafted into AFL ranks at the national draft later this year.

Sidebottom - who is not related to the famous former St Kilda, Geelong, Fitzroy and Swan Districts player Gary - dominated from the midfield and is proficient on both sides of his body.

Thomas Rockliff also had a day out for the Bushrangers, booting four goals.

He had a brilliant spell in the second term, booting three goals is as many minutes, all of which were from strong one-on-one marks opposed to Michael Hibberd.

Rockliff was later kept quiet by Tom Gillies, who moved onto the key forward just before half time.

Murray Bushrangers are based at Wangaratta, near the Victoria-NSW border, while Dandenong is south-east of Melbourne city in the metropolitan area.

Next year’s TAC Cup competition will be boosted by the inclusion of a Gold Coast team, which will be the pre-cursor to the team to be included in the AFL in 2011.

A STUNNING individual performance from Steele Sidebottom has propelled the Murray Bushrangers to an emphatic 81-point win over the Dandenong Stingrays in Friday night's TAC Cup grand final.

Sidebottom, 17, was easily the best player on the ground with his 10-goal, 32-possession performance a major factor in the 21.16 (142) to 9.7 (61) win under the roof at Telstra Dome.

The 182cm AFL player-in-waiting spent the majority of his time up forward with stints on the ball and looked equally at ease when kicking on either his natural right or his left foot.

His goals came from a wide range of angles from both set shots and intelligent play under pressure. Sidebottom booted nine straight before missing four shots, but his 10th major finally came just three minutes before the final siren.

From Congupna, near Shepparton in Victoria's north, Sidebottom will have considerably boosted his chances of being taken in the top 10 of November’s NAB AFL Draft with the powerhouse display.

He impressed in all facets of the game. He was strong overhead, showed good football smarts, kicked goals from long range and snapped them from in close off both feet, tackled and smothered to put his name right under AFL talent scouts' noses.

The Bushrangers had winners all over the ground on their way to their second TAC Cup premiership after finishing runners-up to the Calder Cannons last year.

Tom Rockliff, named on a half-forward flank in the TAC Cup team of the year, was important early with three goals in three minutes at the start of the second quarter and finished with four majors.

Jack Ziebell, also a member of the TAC Cup Team of the Year and touted as a potential top-10 pick in the national draft, was important without dominating from centre half-forward.

Dylan McNeill, Jamie Sheahan, Caleb Tiller, Sam Wright and Kade Klemke, all of whom are off to Canberra for next week's NAB AFL Draft Camp, were all prominent in the awesome display from Phil Bunn's team.

Steven Gaertner caught the eye for the Stingrays, with the 198cm beanpole damaging when playing on the wing and acquitting himself well in the ruck.

Chris Doria, with four goals, and Aaron Purves were also prominent in a disappointing day for Graeme Yeats' side.

Evans was a FF though. This guy is a mid.

From the footage on this thread he doesnt remind me of any current Power player too much.

A pure goalkicking mid would be a handy thing to have. Not sure about his pick 4 credentials either, but I said last week that we have a penchant for picking players early so we get who we want, and mentioned Sidebottom as a potential draftee at pick 4. Who knows. Id still prefer a tall i think.

Shaun is a goal kicking mid, Boak is looking good for that as well. We don't want this guy. We want a big d00d.

Let’s not get too carried away with the TAc gf – REMEMBER Derek Murray, Michael Stevens and Paul Koulouriotis – all picked on their performances in the GF.

Amazing stats for a single match and I agree with those in this thread who are cautious about drafting on the basis of one match.

However, the commentary provided in that link suggest he is a good contested ball winner, hard at the footy, with good skills and clearly he is a goal-kicker. Born to play footy isn't a bad thing to have said about you either.

Of course I haven't seen him play other than the footage provided in this thread, but if we aren't going to go tall, he sounds like a good midfield prospect. I also like the fact he's a Vic country not metro guy.

Evans was a FF though. This guy is a mid.

What I was getting at was that Evans was about 6 foot 2 inches but didn't grow much post u-18. I think I heard the commentators say Steel was 185cm but I could have mis heard as I was coming in and out of the telecast. He was basically playing full forward when I saw him in the forward line.

Thomas Rockliff was the kid that probably impressed me the most because I watched almost all of the 2nd quarter uninterupted and that's when he dominated.
