From the HS “Hocking has overseen a host of rule changes including the “stand” man on the mark rule, which AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan has finally admitted was Hocking’s idea.

So much for those stupid Cats fans saying Hocking was just implementing Gils changes. Ass clown 🤡

Yep Gil and Hocking were laughing at the press conference that the only rule that Gil blocked Hocking from bringing in was increasing the size of the goal square.

He’s done a fantastic job, he has increased scoring from an ave of 80.2 points a game to *checks notes*
A MASSIVE 80.7 points a match!!!!!!!!!

Turned the game into the fantastic spectacle of ping pong between the two teams kicking it long down the line

I’ve just done some research
In 2017 the ave score per game was 89.5
The same year hocking joined the AFL but before he implemented any changes

So due to his changes the ave score per game has dropped over 9 points per game
But the media are celebrating his success

The game was literally a higher scoring spectacle (the thing hocking is trying to do) before he implemented anything

He’s just put in new rules to counteract what the original rules he put in

One of my favourite moments in football, Dermie marking over Steven Hocking and goaling about two minutes after his ribs were broken in the 1989 grand final.
Yeates did the Hawks a favour; Dermie going deep forward ensured he would line up on the inept midget instead of Michael Schulze.
Hocking got all of two kicks that day and about eight possessions in total.
Even less touches in the '94 grand final defeat against West Coast when he was carved up by Chris Lewis.
I'll back him in to f*** Geelong as CEO.

Is that sort of like “Steve Hocking’s best rule change ever”
tigs2010 hasn't quite got to SHocking stage yet.

Have to wonder if the new rules improve the impact of a more outside quicker mid like a Touk Miller versus a slower more inside mid like a Cotchin.

Touk Miller is a little similar to Darcy Parish so maybe its more than just increased presence, Maybe the rules give those types a boost

West Coast have more contested mids I think except the flankers. Nick Nat might be influenced to negatively.

Maybe its not just Cotch is getting long in the tooth, maybe partially the rules do not suit him as much

Danger went alright last weekend when right again in the middle with his pace and so forth. Lot of pacer mids and less contested mids are racking up quite high numbers in fantasy in recent months consistently

Great post mate. Reckon Hocking has held a grudge from his playing days.

I don't think SHocking was out to stop us as such, but there was a lot of media and fans whinging and complaining about our game style and the AFL buckled down to the pressure to change it so they didn't lose their precious ratings.

Any other team in the same position playing a similar style would have got the same treatment.
Funny that now Essendon, Sydney, GC and bunch of others are playing surge footy and it's an "exciting brand" !

Geelongs two greatest players - one would go bankrupt, get geelol dumb campaigners to bail him out, blow the cash, go bankrupt again, rinse and repeat. The other was a junkie. What a shit stain of a club 🤣

Whose the first one? I didn’t even know they had more than 1 great 🤣

Does anyone actually think anything will change? The next one will just be another Gil puppet.

AFL is jobs for the mates, not jobs for the competent.
I personally think there will be change.

Its strange for a mid season departure in one of the highest roles in the game. I wouldnnt be surprised if some things come to light over the next month or so

Polly Farmer. He was on talking footy probably 25 years ago, Bruce asked him what it meant to him being on the show, his response - "Well how else are people supposed to give me money?"
