Too true. If the plane did indeed crash in there, then surely a ship saw it? Hence why I believe it ain't there. I'm still going with a mid air hijacking by a military aircraft.
So the Bane theory?

The press conference is finally under way.

Malaysia’s defence and acting transport minister Hishammuddin Hussein confirms the search has been extended to two areas in the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea.

Twelve countries are now involved in the search, he said.

Hussien said the “way forward” is to involve more military experts. Lots of military top brass are attending the conference.

did I just hear there's a rumour a body has been found? and this bloke said he cant confirm that?

One of the reporters asked about the life boat that was found, and he couldn't confirm anything. Shut it down straight away

EDIT: ^^Pretty sure it was the boat

and now they're saying radar detection was lost at 0215...but they reliability of FR24 and online radars has always been problematic.

as it carries the largest number of passengers pre 380 chances are if things go pear shaped it has an unfair advantage as far as holding those records goes.

Well, within reason the average load is ~200 and many of the 747 crashes were only half-loaded. Compare that to other models like 767 and A300/310/320 which have had similar passenger numbers.

Agree though and I personally love the 747. Sadly, they are being withdraw from the Qantas fleet.

I cant understand why its assumed its in the malaka strait

If its flown that far off course without coms, obviously the coms are ****ed, but the plane is fine. As it goes further out to sea obviously radar will be lost. I think its more likely that the plane flew for hours into the ocean until either running out of fuel, or a potential fire overtook it

Journo need to ask the exact direction plane was heading at last contact. If it was heading due west (as some reports have said) that would make sense for searching in malaka strait
