I'm sick of hearing about trades involving getting goddard to the blues, its not going to happen.

I don't care if he barracked for us as a kid, as a footballer he hasn't shown that much for a number1 pick, and he is too injury prone.

No we don't want to trade Fevola for him or anyone else.

I reckon Goddard would be alright at Carlton, obviously we wouldn't trade Fevs for him but if the right deal could struck i'd want him over here.

Lets leave him this year and wait until he is out of contract at the end of next year. Have a word to him now about our interest and ask him to wait until next season is over before considering re-signing with the Saints.
They will be flat out re-signing Luke Ball next year anyway and fitting everyone in the cap.

Goddard will be a good wingman given the opportunity and time. Drop some of that 10 kgs he has gained as well. Not toned enough and not quick enough and it is hurting his football. He is a midfielder/wing not a KPP/HBF on a third tall type of player that the Saints seem to be trying to convert him into.

I don't think they're listening. :)

I don't think Goddard needs to drop any weight. He's about the ideal playing weight.... a bit of muscle definition maybe, but he'll be OK. Naturally skinny guys like him need to eat like pigs to put on weight so they can then build muscle.

I also don't understand all the fuss about Goddard. To be honest, i'm more disappointed that we lost Wells, not Goddard.

If he wants to come to Carlton when his current contract runs out, then all well and good. There is no reaon however to chase him.

Geez, build a bridge!!

I am like nearly all Carlton supporters that and was very disappointed to miss out on Goddard and Wells but in reality after watching them both play, I am dirty on the fact that Wells is not playing for us. Goddard for a No. 1 draft pick has under achieved so far IMHO.

Sure Goddard is welcome at Carlton but I hope the club is not considering trading up one of our early picks for him or as an exchange player for Fevola who unlike Goddard can be a match winner if he gets his head right.

Forget about Goddard, there a lot better players around to trade for than him.

I've mentioned this elsewhere but... Ryan Houlihan and Matthew Lappin for Goddard and a third round pick.

There is only 1 reason they would trade Goddard. Salary cap problems.
If thats the case then they want a draft pick. A 50k by 2 season draft pick in the top 5.
Lappin and Houlihan = more $ than Goddard.
So they would not do it.

The decision is pick 4 or Goddard. The answer to me is keep pick 4 at all costs. Pat Ryder at CHF/Ruck, Josh Kennedy at CHF/CHB or Shannon Hurn at HBF/midfield are cheaper and better potential options than Goddard.

Carlton have the option of paying a majority of Houlihan's salary for next year though whilst he plays at St.Kilda in order to combat that problem

and Lappins salary as well?

Lets have a guess Goddard 250k. Houlihan 250k (re-signed after Melb threw a big offer at him 2 years ago).
Would Lappin go the Saints for under 200k? No. He would put himself in the PSD and a club would definitely offer him 250/275 a season and be very happy with that when they are getting him for nothing.

So how do we trade Lappin and Houlihan for Goddard? Sign Lappin up and then trade him to the Saints with Houla and then pay 3/4 of BOTH there contracts there? That would be a nightmare.

It would depend on St.Kilda's financial position next year as to whether they'd have the means to cover Houlihan's contract the following year.

Lappin and Goddard's contracts currently cancel each other out. He's asking for 3 years not excessive ammounts of cash. The lure of a preimership might well be enough to get him over the line.

If either Harvey or Peckett retire then Lappin is of an age where he can be listed as a veteran. At which point you may only have to pay half of Houla's salary. I don't work in a recruiting department but I believe the logistics can be achieved.

No you need to also spend 10 years at the one club to qualify so all his salary would still have to be included.

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware of that obviously. They could move Aussie Jones onto the Veterans list next year by that Criteria then. Perhaps that's their trump card in re-securing Ball.

Perhaps it won't work logistically on the Goddard/Houlihan/Lappin trade. I think Lappin is done at the Blues either way.
