Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Wow and to think this season couldn't make me any more depressed.

To think we will never be able to hear that 'Dewwwww' again at a Hawthorn 40k+ crowd home game ever again...

Stuey Dew, what a legend, I feel like a little part of me has died with him retiring.

The play where he took that mark over Kelly, then drills it long to Buddy, with Rioli roving to run into an open goal still makes me shed a few tears of joy. As well as the Milburn spill, which Scarlett can't pick up, then Dew picks it up and snaps it from 45, if ya don't mind Stewie.

I hope to someday tell my grandkids about this too-good-to-be-true footballer that I once had the absolute pleasure of watching, running around in the brown and gold, winning us the 2008 flag.

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

While I'm not entirely surprised, I am very, very saddened by this. The only player who made a greater impact at Hawthorn in such a short time would have to be Cyril. The only Port Adelaide player I EVER liked, thanks for the memories Stewie.

That 5 minute burst in the GF to completely tear the game apart will forever be one of my fondest memories spent on my couch.

Hmmm ... now we need another cult hero

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

That 5 minutes in the 3rd Quarter last year will surely go down in the history of the club as one of the most dominating efforts by a single player in the Hawthorn jumper in any grand final. Thank you Stewie for it was then that I realised that I would see another Hawthorn premiership live at the 'G and this time it was not an opposition player turning the game (Ablett in 89).

In time I also hope that he receives a life membership at the club for he helped us win our 10th premiership cup.

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

This is a loss beyond what Stewie did in the GF.

Who else will inspire the young blokes to try and kick 55mt goals at post hight from one step

Good luck in the future big fella.

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Good decision.

Well done Dewwy for the excellent contribution to the team in your short time at the club.

Lets not forget his passing on his knowledge and experience of being a Premiership player to the boys before the 2008 finals.

A big lad but no slacker at training.

The Fish n Chip shop at Waverley Park just lost a bigger customer than me :D and in more ways than one. ;)

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Stewy Dew, what a ****ing superstar. It is impossible to quantify what we owe to Dew. As others have said it is simple, without him we would not have won the flag last year. How do you quantify the excitement, emotion and happiness of winning a premiership? For many there is a possibility it will be the only hawthorn flag they ever witness, how do you quantify that.

Get him into the coaching committee asap.:thumbsu:

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Dewey, You can see by what has been written in here, that not one poster has anything but praise for you, and what you helped the club achieve in 2008!! We will all be eternally grateful for what you did for us in that GF..You will NEVER be forgotten. Your personality just shines through, such a friendly, likeable bloke!! I had tears when we won the GF, and I have tears now that you have decided to retire.. Thanks for the wonderful memories. You leave the club with every good wish from all the Hawk posters in here. Enjoy your retirement..:)

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Does anyone see this remark by JK as strange:

“He leaves the game with his reputation very much intact and respected. He leaves the game as a dual premiership player with two clubs and he leaves us as a player but not as a friend and not as a member of the family.”

An unusual thing to say?? or is it just me? Don't answer that!!!:D

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Well big fella...it's been a great honour to have you at the HFC, the contribution you brought to the club will never be forgotten, in your short time for Hawthorn your popularity around the club, and amongst supporters just defines what a nice bloke you are.....thanks for the memories :thumbsu:

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

One of my favourite Grand Final stories is that he sent a picture of his 2004 premiership medal to his teammates on the morning of the game with the message "This needs a friend". Then he backed it up on the field. A top bloke & a commando raid of a footballer.

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Wow,

Will he play another game in 09'

Probably struggled to get fit, a smart decision by him.
Will give us the chance for more development in pre-season to fill his role.
Great player who helped us enormously in the big stage!
Good luck m8!

Just you:)

He means that Stewie is still a friend and family member

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

We have to find a coaching position for him, think he would work great with the younger blokes around the club.
Thanks for the 2008 GF and good luck for the future.

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Congratulations on a great career. Had to prove alot of people wrong and you did it with a premiership. Cant remember a 1 year player having such an effect on a club and its supporters in recent memory. Like most, the Dew 3rd quarter will be my fondest memory of last years premiership.:thumbsu::):thumbsu:

Re: Dewwwwwwwww Retires

Absolutely loved the Dew experiment! Will always be a well remembered cult figure for the Hawks. Everytime he touched the pill the crowd roared DEWWWWWWWWWWW :)
