Suburbs with the same name in different cities.

Not the exact same as Victoria's Fitzroy, but WA has the Fitzroy River and a hole of a town called Fitzroy Crossing way, way up North.
People complain the victoria fitzroy was a hub of anti social behavior never saw the amount of crushed beer cans floating by when vic crossing had its annual rain.

Newmarket in Brisbane is almost exactly the same distance from the centre of town as Newmarket in Melbourne is. Both north-west of the CBDs too.

Although whether Melbourne's Newmarket is really a suburb or just a train station on the boundary of Kensington and Flemington is a fair question. Verdict, MaddAdam?

Newmarket is a train station name. Real estate agents might pretend it's a suburb because Flemington sounds dero.

Hawthorne QLD and Hawthorn Vic? I think generally that Melbourne is a bit of an underfunded shithole and it's almost like the ridiculous number of councils are swindling money that could be spent on parks and general cleanliness.

You're sheltered to think Hawthorn is a shithole.

It's interesting that Australia, comparatively, whilst still a very Commonwealth country, doesn't have the sheer volume of English town rip off names like the North East of America.

English started living in Norf America 400 years ago.

Warumpi Band and Ghostwriters referenced in consecutive posts, there's something you don't see often!

Anyway, there's the small town of York not far to the east of Perth, which of course the Americans stole for their "New" version.

There are places called Belmont in:

W.A. - Suburb on the southern banks of the Swan River, also the municipality for the area.
VIC - Southern suburb of Geelong
NSW - Town in the Hunter region
QLD - Outer suburb of Brisbane

There are also places called Belmont in Aukland and Wellington.

Richmond has come up before, but there are five Richmonds in Australia - one each in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. There isn't one in Western Australia, but the name is associated with the Melville/East Fremantle area, with the now demolished Richmond Park harness racing track located there.

There are places called Waverley in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, while in Western Australia there is a ghost town called Waverley out in the Goldfields, while the name Waverley was associated with the Cannington area in Perth's southern suburbs up until the early 1990s.

Belmont WA is an eyebrow raising suburb. Mostly hard working blue collar families but the roaming gangs are a real concern.

Hopefully property prices increase with the relocation of footy and flow on developments, to price the trash out.

Remember Australia used to be referred to as New Holland on old maps.
