Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

Furthermore, I thought you guys had the eternal wood over us in derby's?

The eternal wood comes after we are beating you in Derbies.

Harves is available, just be careful he is a little jumpy around kitchen knives and the movie The Lion King

Please don't approach Mark Harvey West Coast. I think I might collapse if they did.

Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

First Quinz, now this :(

Has Quinz gone public about taking a mod role on the Dockers Board?

I thought he was waiting until after the trade period?

Also has anyone seen Quinz and Summa in the same room at the same time?....just saying.

Re: Sumich to Fremantle

Will be a temporary blow to our coaching structures/dynamics, but I really think this is going to pan out well for us.

Don't rate Sumich's tactical ability all that highly, and Burns/Walsh will move up into more of a 2IC role now.

Re: Sumich to Fremantle

Elaborate?
A mate has a good contact in the West Coast footy department, said to me months ago that Burns was pretty much guaranteed to be the next senior coach, just a matter of when. Not that anything has been signed or anything, but just the way things were heading with the super-impressive performance of Burns and how he is rated.

Me putting 2+2 together says Sumich is obviously in the way if he is still the Senior Assistant. Was waiting for the out.....

Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

Surprised by the reaction on here.

Has been a good lieutenant to Woosha for a very long time. Was midfield coach in the Couins-Judd-Kerr days and was the forward line coach overseeing the development of LeCras, Kennedy and now Darling.

Really surprised he walked away... and to Freo of all places. Surely go to Victoria and make some connections there? I assume Freo headhunted him like they did Lyon, and made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Maybe he wasn't the best speaker/communicator or whatever other criticisms, but the results speak for themselves. He knows how to get groups to play together and in the process, extract the talent that's there.

We lost a good coach today.

woosha to step in Neale Daniher's role?

Hard to see why WCE would get rid of worsfold if we are still up around top 6. he is also a favourite son and favourite sons dont get treated badly. sure, sacking him if we are poor but bad blood between woosha and wce would hurt the club.

I don't think it would be a sacking. More a succession (in Roos style not Malthouse).

I'm just guessing now though

Adelaide didn't seem too impressed by Burns...and Woosha is in for at least 2 more years, possibly longer. Seems odd to make such guarantees.

Interesting scenario playing out, no doubt.

Something's going on, it's slightly unfortunate our best sources are Tim Gossage and the internet.

Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

I don't like losing anything to Fremantle. And say what you will about Suma's apparent 'intelligence' the forward line was functioning decently this year.

Oh well, open up the chequebook and grab the best replacement we can find.

Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

With you SG, flabbergasted by this and a bit embarrased by the lack of footy knowledge shown in the fan response here. Loss will be felt, and badly. I guess this really does put Woosh out of his comfort zone, losing his trusted and faithful lieutenant.

I wonder who the replacement candidates are?

Based on?

Adelaide were very impressed with Burns by all reports.

EDIT - There was also a report that Burns earns more than at least a couple of Senior Coaches.... Wish I could remember the source on that

I agree , Suma and Woosha are real close and compliment each other well

Simon McPhee has been lnked to us a while back and he said recently he wants to coach full - time at Claremont if possible , here is a chance to go to West Coast .

This off season has had a few surprises

Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

Why on earth would he go to that rabble and slime.

The ferals now have a ready made scape goat when their season predictably goes down the toilet.

Not happy with someone with inside knowledge going down the road.

Sumich's forward coaching plan:
1. Kick the ball as long as you can into the forward line
2. kick the ball as high as you can into the forward line
3. Don't isolate 1 on 1s, have a big pack go for the mark
4. Forget about hitting a player up on the lead
5. Forget about crumbing

Re: Confirmed: Sumich to Fremantle

Shame to see Suma go. I rate him as a coach. However, this won't hurt his career, he needs to go elsewhere to learn some more and aim for that senior coaching gig. So, good on him, thanks for your service.

Plus, this may also allow us to get some fresh blood in. We need a different tack in the forward line, hopefully the new coach can help with that.

So, it seems the year of surprises continues. If you told me at the start of the year we would lose to Geelong in a PF, I would have said:

Then, if you told me a few weeks ago we would retain Walsh and Burns and lose Sumich, I would have been like:

It is funny how things turn out sometimes.

No, they weren't. You can't change history.

They were initially very impressed with Burns when they had a couple of preliminary discussions.

However when it came to the short list presentation, he came up short - very short.

His presentation was very sketchy and incomplete, and he didn't perform well under heavy questioning by Leigh Matthews.

All parties, including Burns himself, came to the conclusion that he was far from ready to be the Senior Coach of an AFL footy club.

Burns even went as far as withdrawing his application for the St Kilda vacancy as a result and immediately signed on with West Coast for a further 2 years as an assistant.

Adelaide, on the other hand, rang Sanderson the minute that the meeting finished to appoint him as our Senior coach.

Burns is widely acknowledged as a good assistant coach, and I'm certainly not suggesting anything different in this post, but he still has a long way to go before he's ready to be the Senior Coach of any club, West Coast included.

I have always wondered about this.

Would explain his reluctance to go to Adelaide or Collingwood.

First Ebert and now Sumich...ABANDON SHIP!!!!!!

jokes, good luck to him

Found this funny ha.

Would agree with this move if it was anyone but freo. One would think Melbourne would be more helpful if he really wants to be a senior coach.

I also agree with the scot watters remark, he should probably be our number 1 priority.

Oh really, or are you just making this up?

Source please.

Burns withdrew by personal choice, what evidence do you have that you aren't just bullshitting and filling in the blanks.

Perhaps WC made an offer to him and that is why he withdrew?
