Would you say Cambiasso or Vardy or any of those guys don't have the potential to become legends for keeping you up?

Plenty of people who support clubs who have won stuff are saying the same thing so it's not just a Hull thing.
Nope, wouldn't have either of them as legends of the club.

The guys (not all) that won a couple of League Cup's are closer to legends.

Cambiasso and Vardy have been great players for us but you don't become legends easily.

Sad that you will likely never consider a Leicester player a legend again then.

There are other criteria a player can meet to be a legend. Being the only player in the history of the game to captain their club through all 4 divisions (ashbee) or ten years of service through the four divisions (dawson) or scoring THAT goal at Wembley (windass) all qualify and suspect they would regardless of if we had a few league cups or second division titles in our history.

would you not consider players that prevented your club from being relegated being legends?
Obviously not after 1 season but they're plenty of players who are considered legends at their respective clubs for this reason.

Well, given the context between Leicester and Hull, I think he's got a fair point in regards to us. I can't think of any Leicester Legends that hasn't won something. Of course Jatz is also obviously counting Championship titles as part of that criteria, because after all, it is significant to us.

I will admit that what applies to Leicester, doesn't quite cut it for other clubs. Hull has only every won... 3rd tier once? The criteria wouldn't work in this case.

The examples you list I would say are valid criteria for legends. No problem.

One season of spared relegation? Considering our history, that's not exactly an achievement of note. Though that said, what club would have a legend that is mostly noted for saving the team against relegation? If anything, I'd argue and say getting the team up their via promotion would be more legend worthy than saving the team. The achievement of success rather than the avoiding of failure.

The only way that an avoided relegation could pay a decent role is if the club goes on to bigger and better things (or in the PL, be a very respectable club). The club that I could closely consider something like that would be Wigan, but they capped it off with the FA Cup. I would dare say any legend that was there for the first time Wigan got promoted, would've either seen the team get promoted (I think Andy Liddell would count), or would've seen the FA Cup (Boyce?).

Wait... there is one player I could think of, Arjan De Zeeuw, wasn't there for promotion, nor the FA Cup, but he was there for the FL Trophy (Johnstone Paint Trophy). Yes, there was 06-07, but he was injured. His reputation was already sealed by then.

we've offered denayer a 5 year deal. lyon, a german and spanish team are interested in signing him permanently. would be horrible if we let him go.

jovetic sounds like he may be off to juventus, apparently agreed personal terms on a 5 year deal with the no 10 shirt.

interested in geronimo rulli, who was impressive on loan with sociedad, and we would then loan him out for a couple of seasons to valencia before coming back. or something.

rumoured interest in chile midfielder aranguiz. doubtful.

papers in new york saying pirlo is a nycfc player and other papers were saying it should be announced by the end of the week.

martinez (again) will find out his club this week (again).

Plenty of Toon rumours over the weekend - varying in different levels of (mostly) BS lol.
  • McClaren's been linked with a double swoop for defenders Aymen Abdennour (Monaco) and Joel Matip (Schalke) for around 20m and 10m respectively. Suspect someone has been playing too much Football Manager here...Ashley is reportedly baulking at paying 15m for a striker, no way he'd spend that much on 1 defender, let alone 2. Matip probably the more likely though given he's got 1 year left on his existing deal. Abdennour has getting plenty of attention from both Milan clubs apparently too.
  • Reportedly Rickie Lambert could join on a season's loan. Would be surprised if this is true also as (no disrespect to Lambert) he isn't a player who would get fans renewing their season tickets (like some of the other names being linked to the club).
  • Apparently being linked to a few wingers - Townsend from Spurs and Sparta Prague's Czech Republic international Ladislav Krejci (love the name).
  • The one I had the biggest chuckle at was bringing Ashley Cole to the NE. No way could we afford his wages and he's not exactly the most popular bloke with locals either haha.

This gif sums up our window to date - plenty of names and links being mentioned...just can't seem to get any over the line, too slow and clumsy is NUFC. :D

Any particular reason Cole isnt popular in the NE?

Cheryl?
Somethings he's said/done against Newcastle?

Or just the same reasons everyone else thinks he's a dick?

Tim Howard - 36 still playing
David James - 39 at Portsmouth
David Seaman - 38 when he left Arsenal - 40 At Man City
Mark Schwarzer - 41 at Chelsea
Brad Friedel - 43

And they are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head....

All of whom were well past their prime by by the time they reached those ages. And none of which ever had virtually a season out of the game in their mid 30s (except maybe Schwarzer but he clearly dropped off markedly towards the end).

But I've never argued that goalkeepers can't and don't play longer than most outfield players. It's self-evident that they do. It's rare that they maintain anything like their best standard though, which makes players like VDS and Buffon unique.

But we are getting well off-track here. I've never said that Cech is a bad goalkeeper (obviously he isn't) or that he would not be a good signing for Arsenal (he would when you consider who they have now). I've just questioned why everyone just assumes that he will pick up where he left off as the permanent number one at Chelsea, in light of his virtual year out of the game and advancing age. Others (it would seem most) seem confident that he won't miss a beat. That's fine too. Personally I am doubtful of that but I suppose only time will tell.

No mate, not one season. Player x would have to put together a decent career at the club too.
Duncan Ferguson is an example from the years when Everton were on the verge of relegation every season.
Matt Le Tiss has been mentioned. Juninho from Boro. Jay Jay Okocha. That's off the top of my head but they're plenty of others.

have any of you guys seen much of rondon any good?
Don't follow the Russian league but it appears he had a very good season with Zenit finishing equal second in the goal scoring behind Hulk.
