love it. a player we havent had since de jong to capably shield the back 4. will help immensely in the champions league.

he's been brought in to play champions league in a likely 4-1-4-1. he'll play his fair share of premier league games, especially if we go to a 4-3-3 as we originally wanted.

they're very similar players in both play and quality. to get a player that some porto fans have called one of their best ever for 12 mil is great negotiating.

now pls don't throw that away and bid 30+ on mangala.

Fernando is a great pickup for City, CM 3 of him, Yaya (if he stays) and Fernandinho is very decent. Plus means that Garcia isnt needed as much which is a bonus.

Really? I don't like Chelsea at all, in fact I despise Chelsea, but Matic is a monster of a player. More important to Chelsea than Hazard is in my opinion.

really good article on him. he's the ideal type of defensive midfielder. can run all days but is strong and reads the play very well, much like matic at chelsea.

It is ATM, the 'he's better than Matic already bit'. Who knows after next season, but he's got to prove it first.

yes, and garcia has shown large improvements after a difficult adapting period. however benfica fans never called garcia one of their best ever players.

i expect fernando to be just as good as fernandinho. just watching fernando, especially in the champions league, he's been exceptional. much the same way as matic was.

Matic was the january transfer signing of the season for me, Fernando would do very well to be as good or better than him

He completes City's midfield, they needed a top sitter who holds it, and he is that. TBH I think he'd do very well at Chelsea as well, Chelsea needs someone like him too

And speaking of Derek Kuyt, ol' Dirty Dirk would make a great modern wingback, we played him in the wrong position all that time

We were linked with Fernando last year, was one I was hoping we could make happen but once Citeh made their interest known in January that was that.

For what its worth the consensus in Portugal was that last season Carvalho was the standout DM, followed by Fernando then Matic. With Matic being the standout the season before. Though it is my understanding that Fernando is the most consistent of the lot.

i understand that a lot of it comes through 3rd party ownership but whoever is there picking out which players to pick up is an utter footballing genius. fernando is from some 3rd division team in brazil. that's just ridiculous scouting.
