Chelsea could just sell Lukaku and buy him back if he ever develops into a world-class striker. Similar to what happened with Matic. It might not be best business practice but with Chelsea's bottomless pit of money it's no big deal.

Mourinho doesn't really come across as a 'I was wrong, I want you back' type of guy though. Matic though was a damn good acquisition.

Straight swap for Sturridge mate? ;)

How about Aspas?

Same. He isn't too good is he?

He is pretty good, but I wouldn't say I'd have him here

If Lucas is going to the Serie A which it looks like he will, then we will probably sign a holding mid maybe not this window but maybe the next one or the next summer one, need a long term replacement for Gerrard in the holding role and I think Can plays his best as box to box rather than sitting

And that's why they are a title contender!

They have competed for titles because of the money. They have put together a team of world stars so they are bound to contend.
Before they had money they had a load of foreigners ,just not the world level players.

True, although looking at Chelsea's recent track record when it comes to managerial stability and Mourinho's propensity for never spending a long time at any club, it might not be Mourinho hypothetically welcoming Lukaku back... ;)

Besides, didn't Mourinho sign Eto'o despite Eto'o once saying something like he would never want to play for Mourinho?

Not saying it will or won't happen, my point was that Chelsea because of its finances is one of the few clubs that could potentially pull it off if it so desired.

If there is money and no cap on how many english players in squads or starting XI's the smart sides would avoid English players for the following reasons:

1) they are over priced in the transfer market
2) the English system is producing high enough quality players anymore. Sturridge, Cahill, Gerrard and Hart (just) are the only English players right now who would get in a top 2 contender in the PL. I'd say none of them would get a game at a Champions League contender

Walcott would as well.

Would he get into City's or Chelsea's front line?

Definitely at his best he is good enough to play at a top club but too many questions on his injury proneness he just hasn't produced for a whole season or two yet.

He is better than Hart or Cahill though.
I wasn't saying who is the best English players just who would get games at the strongest sides.

He'd be competing for places with the likes of Aguero, Silva, Navas, Jovetic & Nasri at City. Probably on par with Navas and Nasri behind the rest. At Chelsea in the attacking mids spots Willian, Oscar, Salah, Schurle & Hazard ahead of Salah only with young guys like Lucas Piazon still on their books also.

If he can hit the ground running he will be a good signing for them. 10+ goals in Holland last 2 seasons playing behind the striker so you'd think he is the replacement for Rodriguez while he is injured. Still got about 5-6 to replace down there though

Quite the opposite. Eto'o said he signed for Chelsea purely because of Mourinho.
