I'm completely fine with that, just thought it might be easier to lure an ex teammate rather than an outside voice from interstate.

I know at least one former team mate of Carr's tried to get a job as an assistant with Port for next season, and he was knocked back.

I think they're confident of getting outside voices.

So does that rule out Schofield & Buckley?

Neither name has popped up in conversations I've had. Doesn't mean they're not on the list though.

You just know they're going to go for Troy Chaplin.

I'm pretty sure that's why he said he's not interested in the Melbourne job full-time.

Oh My God Omg GIF

There is no chance of this happening.

Primus was thrown into the role with very little experience coaching at any level.

Carr has coached his own team in the SANFL, and as an assistant within two different AFL clubs.
His experience in the role is a galaxy away from where Primus was.
I agree with the experience side of things, but you can't downplay how difficult a job it's going to be undoing the damage Hinkley has done to the club. First and foremost a full list refresh is going to be needed cause this playing group is mentally shot.

highly doubt it but would be interesting to see if they've asked the question from Corey Enright. I realise they are saying he's next in line after Ross at Saints and his wife seems to have a lot going with her work etc in Vic, but who knows. Still rate him as a coach specifically defensive.

Nice to hear Josh mention they are scouring the country for assistants.

The string of internal hires has resulted in a mediocre coaching group.
If they end up hiring Rory Atkins, then you know the search across multiple galaxies is a load of crap.

If Rory gets a gig, I’m sure it would only be a development role or perhaps a back office role. Something in the fine print in his contract that brought him to Alberton, perhaps?

I hope Josh gets someone who knows how to tackle first and foremost. The amount of high frees Port gives away is stupidly ridiculous.

Remember when Ken first arrived and we brought in John Donehue the world-renowned Jiu Jitsu and MMA trainer for grappling training in the sandpit behind the bowling green end goals? How I miss those days.

Must have been Alan Richardson's idea

I specifically remember Jake Neade running down and tackling a ruckman holding the ball, it was great. The next year that tackling style was nowhere to be seen. I think the AFL put a stop to that tackling style.

They stamped down on the chicken-wing tackle but you can still pin an arm to get holding the ball.

Tackling is a skill that benefits from training like any other. And our tackling sucks.

We also have a habit of sort of doing something once then never refreshing it or embedding it through consistency. Tackling coach for one pre-season then all forgotten the next and standards slip again.

Well we dont have a senior assistant
Probably fair that Port didn't continue with the senior assistant later in Ken's tenure. A senior assistant isn't going to help a 10+ year dud senior coach at that point.

I hope they're bringing one back to support a first year coach though. Koch has been saving pennies over on-field success for a while now, time to reinvest.

What do you tell the man who knows everything?

I always thought that sandpit idea came from Rehn

I think enticing Dew back to the club from Brisbane would be a good move. Not sure on his current contract status. But Dew has been through the first time coach thing and it wasn't easy for him but he would have learnt alot which I think he can pass his experiences down and can be beneficial to Josh.

I dont know how you expect Kochie to make our financials look good if he's not cutting useless spending?
