Yeah, it will be an interesting one for sure. We'll be doing pretty well if we make another grand final, I'll tell you that much. I just keep thinking we're due for a few injuries, as pesimistic as that sounds. Hopefully not of course and hopefully the Everitt trade bears fruit. Who knows, footies an odd game and there will be plenty of teams who look like winners at some point throughout the season. Hopefully, we look like the goods in the last game of the year.

I cannot stand when people say we are 'due' for injuries. It doesn't work that way. You can't be due for injuries.

Afraid so - don't want to jinx it but one day we are going to get them and our depth will be tested

NO. FACT IS THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BEING 'DUE' FOR INJURIES.

Would you like an example?

2 men run out to play. 1 man breaks his leg. 1 year later the same 2 men run out again to play. The same man that broke his leg, breaks his arm.

Does this mean the other man who hasn't broken anything is now due to break something? No.

I've never broken any bones. Does that mean i am 'due' to break a bone. No.

There is no such thing as being 'due' for injuries.

It's the most stupid concept i've ever heard of.

It's the nature of the sport. There is a delicate mix of calculation, risk and luck. Injuries are a part of any sport, particularly one as demanding as Aussie rules. Based on history, every team cops it's fair share of injuries at some point and some more than others. In recent history we have had a relatively low prevelance of injuries, particularly to key/senior players when compared to the rest of the comp. If we had to deal with the same injury toll that St Kilda did this season, would we of played in the Granny..... NO WAY. So by saying that we're DUE I am referring to our recent history of good health. By establishing a proven link between sport and injuries and by recognising our recent good health, I'd say we're DUE.

Every day of good health brings you a day closer to your next breakdown. You can't argue with that statement, it's science (I'm Ron Burgundy).

No, you cannont be 'due' for injuries.

How can you not understand that?

Simple - the more you swim in the ocean you the more likely to be taken by a shark. Play golf in a thunderstorm more likely to be hit by a bolt than inside your house.

Play professional football regularly you'll get injured. Aside from muscle injuries you also heighten the chance of collision injuries which are pure chance - ask James Hird!

I haven't been really sick since January, that doesn't mean i'm due to be sick soon. Touch wood, anyway.

I am as one eyed as the next supporter. But here is another point that needs to be made in the 'due' debate.

The term 'must be due' is an Australian expression, referring to the well known adage that every time something doesn't happen, it's one step closer to happening for real. Now, I'm not saying the team WILL get injuries. I'm saying that the chance of being sustaining an injury increases every time you come up unscathed.

To use a real life example I'll call on one of the games most enduring players Jarrod Crouch. Untill this year Jarrod had not missed a game through injury. He had been injured before just not bad enought to keep him out. He then hurt his collarbone against Ireland last year, and pulled his calf (I think) during the season. Even a player who manages his injuries as well as Crouch was going to miss a game "sooner or later" (another common phrase referring to the adage discussed above). This is because sport is risky and players are reckless with their bodies. How many times has Leo Barry backed into a pack... plenty. He only ruptered his spleen once though. How many times has Tom Lonergan backed into a pack...... plenty, but he onloy lost a kidney once.

By saying that we're "due" I am saying that we WILL get injuries "sooner or later". It could be tommorrow, five months or years. And when we do get them, watch the journos queing up to tell the Swans they were DUE.

You're definitely due.

.. Jokes Nat. You guys can't be due, we need a 2007 decider. ;)
Mate, you do make a great point. How good would another re-match be? Probably the most anticipated grand final for a long time I'd say. And think of the pressure and the build up. Fingers crossed, that would be absolutely huge.

You might not consider yourself due but obviously as blokes age and as the years and years of football start to take a toll injuries crop up.

I predict the Swans golden run to finish and injuries to crop up in 2007.

If we do get injuries then at least we can blood a few of the younger guys in our squad qhich is something we have not had much of a chance to do in the last few years. I want to see some new faces in the side in 2007.

Why? That will mean that we do have injuries and that isn't what we want. The purpose of the next 2 years isn't to 'blood' new players, it's to win a premiership. I hope we see no new faces next year.

I think you've made your opinion known. Maybe "it's about time their luck with injuries ran out". It's all the same really...... the presence luck of anyway.

I would have to agree with you on the premiership front. You can't realistically contest for a premiership and blood young blokes at the same time. I think a slow trickle would be nice though, as there's a hell of a lot of talent we haven't been able to see yet. Given time, I think we'll show we do have a considerable amount of depth. Although the point will continue to be raised by fans and the media, untill our list is put under the microscope, hopefully not till 2008.... after we win the comp in 07......

Then again, you'd reckon we're due for some injuries (god, am I posting in circles here or what)...........

Yuh, small amounts is fine. For instance last year we saw the debuts from Grundy, Phillips and Schmidt. That was all good and fine, however it would have been much better if Crouch hadn't got injured and we never had to see Schmidt.

If some new guys come into the side then it lets the other guys know that their spot isn't guaranteed, which puts pressure on them to play better  ;)

Yes you can be. 30 year olds hamstrings dont improve over the years. Expect Barry, Kennelly, Kirk and O Loughlin to struggle all year with injury
