Not so sure about that, but then again we will never know.

North probably take him- then we miss Simpkin as well. Worth trading up.

So had we kept our picks 14, 17 and 31 instead of upgrading to 9, 19 and 46 we would have still got both Florent and Hayward imo and then a much better option at 31. The "so called" up grading proved to be disastrous as I am sure we did not get the pick we were hoping for.
Still would have got florent sounds a weird statement which seems the basis for your point, computer says no

seems as though we went against our normal trend of drafting mids who are physically ready for senior footy.

Heeney ,mills, hanners, parker, jones and mitchell were all physically ready for senior footy straight off the bat (whether they were picked in the seniors or not). Florent looks a couple of years away from even thinking of playing senior footy.

Round 1 I'm guessing

I wouldn't go that far as Jetta looked like he could be blown over with a gust of wind and we played him quite early.

Get over it champ,it won't change.

Florent wouldn't have been there @ 14.

With our need for a KPD, we could have still chosen Maibaum @ 31 as that would not have been a reach.

So potentially the only change to our draft board would be getting a player not as good as Florent. The rest if the players the same.

When teams make draft pick trades, they generally know what they are doing/who they are after.

Depends how many of the academy players we take.

I'd like to gamble on Scharenberg personally

i don't think he'll be there at pick 19, if thats how it works. everyone seems to think he was the biggest omission from the nd.

I reckon Maibaum is ok even at 31. Bolton is the one we'll regret not taking.

Oliver Florent (11), Will Hayward (21), Jack Maibaum (45), Darcy Cameron (48)

"This is a really nice group, which complements what the Swans already have. Florent can create something from nothing, and often turn that into a goal. But he also hits the ball hard in contested situations and had proved himself as a bone fide midfielder by the end of the season. Moving him away from his family after an impossibly difficult year in which he lost his father would have been a big decision for the Swans, but he is a resilient kid with a big support network around him. Hayward has work to do on his endurance, but is hugely talented and adding him to the half forward could ease Isaac Heeney's move into the midfield. Maibaum is a competitive key back who sticks to his task and just needs to start getting more of the ball; they needed some depth in that area and he'll bring that. Cameron has worked for three years to prove himself and will add some depth to the club's ruck stocks."

I just read about Ric Barham and Andrew Scholefield retiring their positions as part of our recruiting team. They have both contributed to our most successful era & are deserved life members.

Great job lads! Congrats & thank you for everything.

im pretty sure the Swans were targeting Logue with their first pick and thats why they traded up to 9 with Port, i dont think Florent was really part of the plan but thats the roll of the dice in the draft, I think Heyward will surprise a lot of people and will be a perfect replacement for X Richards, he reminds me of a Guston x Issac Smith

I always wondered how a recruiter might explain his job

"I go all around the country watching athletic 16, 17 and 18-year-old boys running around and getting sweaty"

To be fair I doubt Kinnear has even gone and watched a game

How can you say Florent was never part of a plan, when the Horse went to his house in Mentone and convinced him he will be at the right club.

Spoke to a mate from school who works in the recruiting department of an AFL club last night, said we should be absolutely stoked with our draft haul. He rated Florent over Simpkin and was surprised Hayward lasted as long as he did. Didn't like the Maibaum comparisons to Rance, said he is much more in the mould of Talia at Adelaide but a better kick...his words were 'typical Sydney defender, slightly undersized but very rarely beaten'. He was also a huge wrap for Ronke out of the rookie draft, raved about his explosiveness but said the main knock is his kicking (will fit in well then!).

Worth noting that we were interested in Ben Davis.

"The Crows have 39 players on their senior list after selecting five players at the NAB AFL Draft on Friday night.

They took NSW 19-year-old Ben Davis with the 75th overall selection.

AFL.com.au
understands the Sydney Swans submitted paperwork with the AFL to select Davis as a rookie-listed academy player if he made it through to the rookie draft."

I don't mind our Academy boys being drafted with late picks to other clubs...just means that they are doing their job and expanding the overall talent pool.
