SYDNEY is quickly and quietly re-signing key players coming out of contract to consolidate the club's long-term future.
However, director of football Andrew Ireland also indicated the Swans would try to top up their playing list by trading for, or drafting, a couple of experienced key-position players.
In the past few weeks captain Stuart Maxfield has re-signed for another season while tough defender Ben Mathews and Jarrad McVeigh, the club's top-five pick from the 2002 draft, have agreed to two-year deals.
Ireland also revealed yesterday contract negotiations had started for star midfielder Jude Bolton and key defender Craig Bolton.
The club is hoping to lock up the Boltons for at least another two years.
Full-back Andrew Schauble, yet to play this season because of a hamstring injury, is also expected to re-sign. And the club has started preliminary talks with exciting rookie Paul Bevan.
"We know where our list is and we've started moving on the players we need to move on," Ireland said. "We'll move on the rest coming out of contract as the year pans out.
"A couple of years ago people thought we had an old list, but around 48 per cent are under 21 years old. So we probably don't want to get much younger."
