Kinda wild that Errol is on more $$$ than Heeney. Some good work by his agent. I presume that this is contract only as Isaac probably doubles this sum with his endorsements.
I think it's worth looking at not just what the contracts are worth, but when they were signed.

Heeney signed his in March 2022. At the time, he hadn't been an All Australian and had finished in the top 5 of the B&F just once in his career. The following year he would miss the top 10 of the B&F altogether, despite playing every game, and people were declaring him overrated and a disappointment, and were ready to trade him to offload his supposedly-regrettable contract. He only started to put this sort of talk to bed last year.

Gulden signed his contract in April 2024, when he was coming off an All Australian and a Bob Skilton Medal, and was in the middle of a season where he'd receive a second All Australian and come runner-up in the B&F.

So at the time of their respective extensions, Gulden was arguably held in a higher regard than Heeney was at the time of his.

Gulden signifigantly younger too

Took me 15 years before I watched 2006GF. Great game actually. Only ever watched first half of 96GF. After being at the ground live for 2014,2016,2022 and 2024, no way I'm ever watching any of them, including any doco associated with them.
2016 is the only GF I have repeated viewings, post the initial few days of our winning GFs.

Still haven’t come to terms with the umpiring. The third quarter in particular was almost comical with the non-calls. Unsure exactly what draws me back to watching it, still fascinates/irritates. I assume it’s the similar pull of shows like A current affair! The draw of the outrage.

14, 22 and 24 are like nightmares that are to never be relived. They are actually like a repeating nightmare and very similar with the feelings they evoke! Nightmare on Elm street (Punt road) 1, 2 & 3!!

I was at 12, 14 and 22. 14 was boys against men. Physically and mentally overpowered. 22 the same. No way was I going to 24. Heart couldn't take it. At least at home I could take a break from the slaughter.
But like any disaster you have to pick yourself up and go again otherwise what's the point?

And there was also the small matter of the Crows offering Errol a 10 year deal that we had to respond to!

Asked directly on SEN Breakfaston Thursday morning whether he’d met with Curnow, Cox said: “I think you know I won’t talk about anything that does or doesn’t happen.

“That’s one thing that I’ve always thought … if you do have meetings, or if you don’t even have them, everything is done behind closed doors and that’s the way we’ll keep it.”

Cox is such an awful media performer it’s actually endearing

Sounds pretty similar to what Tom Harley said about reports of our meeting with Brodie Grundy in 2023:

“As a club as a rule we don’t comment on what we do, who we meet and the likes so I won’t provide any commentary on that other than to say that we would expect our list management committee to do what we can to get better.

“We will continue to do that but we won’t be providing a public running commentary on that.”

Almost word for word! They must pass around the script at this time of year.

Yeah, they’re same general line, but Harley didn’t say that meetings that don’t happen take place behind closed doors.

I torture myself everytime we make a GF. I re watch our bad GF losses in the week leading up to a GF to give the day even more of an emotional feel. ‘96, 14 & 22 are so hard to watch

Interesting framing in the two articles. Not often I give plaudits to Fox but the lack of smart-ar*rie was good. Very straight. SEN not so much.

Anyone hear Paps on his Podcast?

I came in a bit late- but here’s what I thought he said -

“…….I said I’m not going anywhere and if Curnow is coming I’m definitely not going anywhere”

So sounds like he may have been approached - or asked?

Not how I remember it, I'm pretty certain there was barely any age difference in the teams that day.
We can use that excuse for 2022 but not 2014.

We actually were the older list on average for that year.

That's correct , he's about to get married and going nowhere

Physically, mentally. Thought that was obvious. Guess not.
Hardly, we had 15 players from the team that had won the damn thing two years prior and we finished the season as minor premiers.
Stop making excuses, we shit the bed pure and simple, something we have done often in the years since.

And no, what you were saying wasn't obvious at all.

Honestly Jewels you used to be a good poster. Lost the plot.

Soooooo, you don't think I'm a good poster any more and I've lost the plot because I disagree with you and have stated a few random facts to support my side of the argument 🤔

Okay then.....

He should have said what Longmire used to always say..."We don't discuss contracted players from other clubs".
