24AUG25: Eagles vs Swans Match Reports

FWIW 8 AFL.com reporters have put together their AA team.

Grundy & Heeney make the cut.

AFL.com.au's 2025 All-Australian team

B: Josh Worrell, Cal Wilkie, Jordan Clark
HB: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Harris Andrews, Bailey Dale
C: Bailey Smith, Noah Anderson, Hugh McCluggage
HF: Ed Richards, Jeremy Cameron, Isaac Heeney
F:
Jamie Elliott, Riley Thilthorpe, Jack Gunston
Foll: Max Gawn, Jordan Dawson (c), Nick Daicos
I/C: Kysaiah Pickett, Caleb Serong, Matt Rowell, Brodie Grundy

EDIT;
Official 44 man AA squad also released and includes Grundy & Heeney, but as an aside, surprisingly for me at least, doesn't incl Cal Wilkie.

Wilkie absolutely dudded. Not flashy but super reliable and skilful. Would be in my AA team and would love to snag him for ours.

C- is being way wayyy too generous. Our season was an E- at best, only saved from being a complete and utter F because of our injuries. We had one too many putrid, concerning losses, and I'm absolutely depressed over how hard our score from transition has capitulated to the point that there is not much left to sugarcoat. The drop off makes me very pessimistic as to what to expect from Cox. I don't see Cox's method turning us around to the point of dominating again (which we should be), rather it has disabled us imo. The turnaround would have to be quite significant.

I say D mainly because we conjured up some good wins. Would have agreed though if we finished with no more than 10. The first half of the season was a -FFFFFFFFF

A lot to work on though

Only twice we scored over 100

4 times we had 10 goal run ons

Shocking year from where we were

He will struggle imo

I agree there were a couple of inspiring wins that seemed to have come out of no where, but like punts said, scoring over 100 twice after being the number 1 scoring team last year is unacceptable and points to a failing change in method. And i think the overall piss poor qtrs of footy heavily outweigh the better performances we've had. And i'd even argue our best wins still didn't feel like perfectly executed games like we've had in the recent past, there was always a severe level of clunkiness in transition even in those games.

Unless we do a complete reset to what worked circa 2024, i just can't see the current mix and gameplan digging it's way out of this. And I still don't think Cox is anywhere closer to figuring out who his best 22 is which is also a concern.

Injuries to our forward line didn’t help at all with our scoring

The inability to stop huge opposition run ons was the biggest issue IMO.

I think the makeup of our midfield needs to change if we're going to address that. I'd really like to see Mills come in to the mix again next year. With Heeney needing to split his time up forward we really don't have a genuine 2 way mid that can both win the footy and do the defensive stuff well.
