“I did a lot of work with psychologists about handling that frustration and not taking it into games. At times earlier in the VFL, I had times when I wasn’t handling it well enough. So that’s been the biggest focus for me, focusing on the things I can control.”

Definitely having a crack. Hawks did right by him too making the trade pretty easy.

Now for some actual media:

I remember reading the same article from him last year which was fascinating. It certainly adds another dimension as to what actually goes on on draft night. Things that we would never know otherwise and it explains in some ways why certain
picks were done when they were done.

Cox at 9 seems about right, we've gone all in on this list, and he's inherited a team that made 2 GFs in 3 seasons, so he'll be under a bit of pressure and has to win to keep the job long term. Though barring a complete disaster he's safe throughout 2026.

  1. Michael Voss
  2. Justin Longmuir
  3. Alastair Clarkson
  4. Ross Lyon
  5. Brad Scott
  6. Luke Beveridge
  7. Adam Kingsley
  8. Matthew Nicks
  9. Dean Cox
  10. Craig McRae
  11. Damien Hardwick
  12. Josh Carr
  13. Steven King
  14. Andrew McQualter
  15. Adem Yze
  16. Chris Scott
  17. Sam Mitchell
  18. Chris Fagan

So I am guessing we will have to wait longer to get the video of the impressionist dance portion of the interview?

Fox journo's that can't write a decent story what a f ing waste of time

Dattolli is the only one I can see with a realistic chance of cracking the 22under22. Sheldrick and Cleary might be outside shots. Snell and Andrew might have a shot at the third KPD role, but Serong seems to have been brought in for that purpose so they first have to crack the Swans lineup before anything else. The others are just too young.

I think the 2019 draft is when it started going all wrong. I mean discounting the academy selections (mainly Gulden) from 2019 onwards we have only really drafted 1 player of serious note in that time and that is Warner. Yes we have a few handy players in that group too, guys like Roberts, Corey Warner, McDonald, Campbell and Sheldrick but none of them are players who are really going to move the club forward too much.

Hell, two of our first round draft pick players, Stephens and Konstanty are now playing for a different club, us giving them away for peanuts after we realised they were definitely not worth the first round picks we paid for them.

I think Warner is the only slam dunk draft selection we have made since 2019 (not including academy) and 1 correct decision in over 5 years is not enough.

Exaggerating like that undermines your point. We've made plenty of good decisions. You acknowledge that Campbell, McDonald, Sheldrick and Roberts are decent players but then ignore that fact in the next breath. 2022 was the only total bust. The most recent drafts it's too soon to tell. Ditto with Green, who I think will prove to be a good pick. Also, we've been finishing high up the ladder and haven't had high draft picks since 2021 onwards. I wonder how many clubs with comparable selections (e.g. not Richmond) have done better than us.

I don't think it undermines it. I mean look at our first 3 rounds since 2019

2019
R1 - Stephens
R2 - Gould, Taylor, Warner

2020
R1 - McDonald, Campbell
R2 - Gulden

2021
R1 - Sheldrick
R2 - Roberts
R3 - Corey Warner

2022
R1 - Konstanty
R2 - Vickery
R3 - Mitchell

2023
R1 - Green, Cleary

2024
R1 - Dattoli, Bowman
R3 - Bice

I mean of our first rounders who were not academy selections we have Stephens, McDonald, Sheldrick, Konstanty, Green, Cleary, Dattoli and Bowman, and even being generous maybe 2 of those players are in our best 22 right now, and 2 of them are playing for a different club right now, after we traded them for a lot less than we drafted them for when we realised they were not very good.

Yes I know players need time to develop, but 2 out of 8 is not looking promising.

Of all the players I listed above, not including Gulden since he was an acadmey selection so not someone our draft team needed to think about too much, the only slam dunk we have had from 2019 onwards is Warner. Everyone else is either not in the best 22, not in the team at all or only in the fringes of the best 22 and are definitely not match winners.

Why is it a requirement that players from say the 23 and 24 drafts have to be Best 22 by now, in order to rate our drafting?

I'd also dispute the 2 out of 8 first rounders, even if you were being reasonable about Green, Bowman, Dattoli.

McDonald and Sheldrick are Best 22, and Cleary should be, selection mistakes aside. And I missed where Cleary wasn't actually from our academy. It's really 2 out of 4 non academy guys that we can fairly evaluate against.

I think it is reasonable that if a player was really good from the 2023 and 2024 drafts they would be in our best 22.

I mean just from the 2024 draft there were 28 players taken in the first round and of those 28 players 15 played 10 or more games in the 2025 season. In fact only 5 of those 28 players played no games at all.

Also forgot about Cleary so that was my bad. Still not sure Cleary is in our best 22 though when everyone is fit.

I don't think this is reasonable at all. It assumes all draftees are the same.

You'd have to look at who those first rounders are getting games for and whether these are generally for teams challenging or getting games into kids during a rebuild. There will be exceptions of course.

Dattoli played games, after being out for the first chunk of the season.

I think you can claim Stephens and Konstanty as misses, but if we're being serious, we'd consider that first or second year players may take time, especially a ruck like Green.

Can someone please explain to me what this has got to do with Swans in the media , surely it's general discussion

Maybe the Mods are being a bit looser as there's stuff all footy to talk about except the AFLW GF - thank god for that at least!
