Thats such an excellent idea. I remember a few years back attending an Academy game at North Dalton Park in the Gong.
Id like to see them do that with Academy Games also instead of sending them out to Blacktown. With the AFLW theres a plethora of girls coming through the Academy from those 3 areas.
Pretty sure Nth Dalton is the only full sized AFL ground although the facilities are basically non-existent. Son played there against Wollongong in U12 in the 90s. We have a lovely ground here in Kiama but too small and not close to the station.
No reason not to rotate one AFLW game a year through the regional centres and a VFL game through one of the others. Can't be more expensive than Blacktown or Henson.

We did have a preseason game at Coffs I think.
And an Academy series also i think in Coffs.
They provably think that Wollongong is almost a satellite city of Sydney thankfully with the National Park in between. I dont fancy our chances us much as Newcastle and Coffs as far as seeing more Swans action. It is a lovely ground you have in Kiama

Treating Wollongong as a "satellite" would be foolish. As we both know, it's a whole nuther place. 😆

Sick of what exactly.
Missed a season for playing gridiron during preseason. Missed almost all of the season for wrestling with Konstanty during another preseason. He's got a habit of doing stupid shit before the season starts and I don't think he should be captain anymore because he's never on the field. I don't care how inspirational be seems to his teammates. Might as well have made Alex Johnson the spiritual captain then.

I couldnt open this article but mentions Isac wanting a preseason game there
So did Cox earlier in the week

I think the issue is the ground isn't quite up to spec, but they are lobbying for additional money to bring the ground up to standard

I remember dragging my partner to see a pre-season match in Wollongong a few years back, must have been early 2018. Wound up sitting next to an 18 year old Ryley Stoddart and his mum in the crowd before he had ever played a game. Can't remember anything else about the day except that we went on to watch roller derby at some venue connected with Wollongong Uni.

Apologies for cluttering up the thread with a non-media related post. Let me ameliorate by posting this article: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1459030...rn-hawks-won-the-race-for-daniel-giansiracusa. What I find interesting is the emphasis placed by the article and, reportedly, the Hawks on the value for a coach having experience developing players. Points out that Sam Mitchell having time in charge of development and Box Hill immediately before becoming senior coach was invaluable to his promotion prospects. Makes me wonder if Malceski might be on a similar track - that clearly wasn't the case for Macca because he went off in a completely different direction. (I don't know what he's up to now except it's meant to be in the US, maybe NYC?)

Ryley was a good kid. 😣
Both Mal and Rhyce were/are terrific in the development space as well as being winners on the field and good teammates amongst players and coaches. You could be right.
For mine Macca was always too hard on youngsters (maybe Spike too?) without the balancing arm around the shoulder which showed in a few observations from VFL games this season. Very smart but...

This is great. Kin can offer insights only a few can.

Some bits I found interesting:

* he reckoned clubs picking ahead of Adelaide in the pre-season draft should have seriously considered drafting Callum Ah-Chee e.g. West Coast. Interestingly he said that, even more than upsetting relationships with the other club's list managers, it's more the player managers you have to consider whether it's worth getting offside.

* he isn't in favour of the rules allowing senior players (like Ramps & Lloyd) to be able to be moved to the rookie list. He says he wouldn't be surprised if the AFL "corrects" this.

* Dawson left because of money and the cost of living in Sydney. We couldn't match the $$ due to our tight cap. Some on the list management committee would have been willing to let him go the pre season draft.

* we didn't draft Josh Dunkley because he wasn't a good kick and we had identified that we needed to improve our kicking. He had great competitiveness.

* doubtful about their being enough depth nationally to get enough AFL players for a 19th team, let alone a 20th.

What I like about this interview is that it's in depth (but then you need a lot of time to listen to it) and Tommy doesn't do too much of the talking. Too many podcast hosts get in the way of their guests who are the ones I'm usually most interested in hearing from.

Amen, and some ask ‘dorothy dicks’ questions where the interviewer answers their own question.

Tim Watson is notorious for this, I can’t stand his puff-piece interviews.

What I think is missing from your argument is balance.
What Mills achieved before his prolonged absences and what he is capable of this year.
Like I said in a previous post, it is 3 and a half months until the real stuff starts. He has a six week injury or whatever.

I think you are premature on pulling the pin on him.

Agree - it won't happen.
Some posters say "play him in the midfield", some say "play him in defence".
Most, if not all, midfielders are part-time. Heeney, Warner, Sheldrick and Rowbottom all played forward when not in the mids or on the bench. There's no reason that Mills can't "rest" in defence. We often send an extra back if things get hot. Who better?
Both offer the opportunity to show his leadership chops. We haven't seen a lot of on-field stuff while he's been injured. Let's see what he's got.
