I hope not. After listening to one of the assistant coaches on 5AA(cant remember who), they pointed out that Mattner had come from a town with a population of 20 odd people. They said that he always gives 100% to establish himself, even if it doesnt always bring the most spectacular results.
I really respect this guy actually- really looks like he is determined to do well and although i think he may not be ready for AFL, i would like to see him a bit more.

My mail is that Bode wont play against Sydney Burns should be given a run I cant see basset holding barry hall if he is on song

He kept him to 2 goals last year after Hall came of a 7 goal game. We need to starve him of opportunities to keep him quite. The best way to do this is to win the midifeld battle.

With Bodey out again, I'd like to see Roo back into the guts, in the middle, getting where the action is. If his fitness isn't quite up to it then we can move him forward later but I believe it's eesential we utilise his hardness around the packs. Let the captain lead the way this Sunday.

Sure. I'm actually meeting up with some friends at Bar Cleveland at 11:15am if you do not already have firm plans. Is there a post match function?

We just have G.A. tickets so can sit anywhere.

Let me know DaveW. Cheers.

Oh, just got this off the AFC site.

After Match Function

There will be a free Supporters Function straight after the match on the Bradman Terrace, which is located at the top of the Noble Stand at the Paddington end of the SCG. It is also a great opportunity to meet the players and grab an autograph and share a celebratory drink. See you there!

Heard an interview today with Paul Roos on 5aa and he was almost certain that O'Loughlin will play this week. Apparently he has been training with the main squad throughout the week and needs to complete the main training session tommorrow to get back into the side.

Stenglein can negate him well but I would prefer to see Stenglein in the midfield more and therefore would play Hart on O'Loughlin.

Thoughts????

Heard the same interview Stifffy, and would go the same way as you. We missed Stinga in the centre square last week. When you think we had Bode missing and then elected to not have Stinga nd the Roo in the centre square, it's little wonder that we got caned in the square early on, with the tough nuts missing.

I was probably going to go into the members area, which I believe includes the Noble Stand, so sounds good to me! Will PM you my mobile no. so we can catchup. Cheers.

Don't mind drinking win or lose, but far more enjoyable when we win. :) Would expect the players will have a real crack this week after last week's effort.

Yes the "great opportunity to meet the players and grab an autograph and share a celebratory drink. " sentiment is the AFC's sites'. Let's hope they are right!

sob sob!!!!!
i have to miss this weeks game!!!
Im going to this youth group weekend thing and it only happens once a year- THEY HAVE NO TELEVISION

ITS CRIMINAL TO MISS A CROWS GAME!!
I havent missed any of the crows games since 1995!!!!!!

Im not letting my parents tell me the score when i get back on sunday night!!- ill watch the replay and 'pretend' im watching it live

IM SO NOT HAPPY:( :( :(

Take 2:

Assuming that Stevens will not play:

_F: _ 25. Ben Rutten _ 22. Ian Perrie _ 40. Chris Ladhams
HF: _ 10. Matthew Bode _ 32. Mark Ricciuto _ 9. Tyson Edwards
_C: _ 20. Tyson Stenglein _ 26. Mark Bickley _ 21. James Gallagher
HB: _ 15. Jason Torney _ 16. Ken McGregor _ 34. Ben Hart
_B: _ 7. Nigel Smart _ 8. Nathan Bassett _ 18. Graham John****
1R: _ 4. Matthew Clarke _ 36. Simon Goodwin _ 23. Andrew McLeod

Int: _ 35. Rhett Biglands _ 33. Brent Reilly _ 3. Kris Massie _ 39. Martin Mattner

If Stevens misses I would get Rutten in for team balance. SCG is small and you don’t really need a CHF but I would still take 4 true KPP and 2 ruckman for the sake of team balance.

Thoughts??????

You and I have been advocating the Roo for CHF for this game Stiffy all week, even before the loss of Carey and Stevens, and I really hope they go this way.

If Stevens plays, I would play him at FF, Perrie in the pocket and Roo at CHF.

But if Stevo doesn't play - I'm not sure even I believe my next suggestion - but should we play Schell in the pocket instead of Rutten due to his greater experience??

I'm still a goer for Doughty instead of Gallagher.

Rest of the side looks pretty good.

macca23 r u feeling alright?????? :p

We gotta blood Rutten at some stage. Rutten is also more dimensional than Schell. Also Rutten has been consistenly good this year at SANFL. Last week he played CHF and picked up 19 possesions 9 marks couple of goals and couple of tackles. He is slower than Schell but I reckon he is a better kick, mark and is DEFINETLY better at ground level. Experience is a factor but if you don't play you don't get the experience. I know its not the same but Rutten has pleny of SANFL experience at senoir level.

Doughty for Gags. Still not convinced Doughty has got his confidence back. He was very average last week for South. IMO Crowell is more of a chance than Doughty. Wouldn't really be surprised if Crowell is selected.

From most potent forward line in history of the club to pretty much no forward line if stevens misses.

Carey --- out
Burns --- out
Burton --- out
Welsh --- out
Stevens --- possibly out.

I'm not convinced Rutten is ready yet. Maybe Crowell could come back in, what's his form been like? I think Johncock could play up forward this week. He did so with some success last season.

Interesting debate going on. Firstly, I agree with Stiffy that Gags sould play for 2 reasons - you need to give players more than one game to show their wears & also, Dogga hasn't showed the SANFL form that Gags did it his 1st week.

Damn nuisance about Burns & his abductor. Would have been a cert this week to replace the Birdman.

Carey dropping out doesn't worry me about replacing with a small on the SCG. But if Stevo doesn't play, I agree with Macca in playing Schell. The main reason is because at the SCG (as Marsh demonstrated in the '98 final) we need tall across FF leading out not a key across the HF line. Schell is better suited to this than Rutten, who is more a CHB / CHF playmaker type.

The midfield is critical at the SCG (which is why we have a good record). So Clarke's taps better go to his team mates this week! Also, as Roo is likely to play most of the game forward, Goody Macca & Stinger need to spend most of the game on the ball ensuring maximum clearances with Bode, Roos & Ladhams rotating through.

His first game was quite (10 possesions). Last week he was solid with 17 possesions, 5 marks, 2 crunching tackles and a goal.

Crowell isn't really KPP. If Stevo misses out, I think we need to bring in true KPP for the sake of team balance.

He's not KPP, I know, but we still have Perrie up forward.
