Autopsy Swans vs Eagles

As bad as we've been we are still in the game mid way through last quarter in most games this year. Kids run out of steam.

Senior players are average at the moment.

Jack should join his brother in the NEAFL.

Marsh has improved.

Kizza ain't done. Neither is Grunds. I reckon they'll be right. In 8 weeks time we'll be talking about how solid they are.

Kizza was looking done last year though, why will it suddenly turn

The Papley selection still leaves me dumbfounded. I love the kid but he has had no preseason and zero match fitness. Plenty of guys playing NEAFL who could come in and have an impact. Maybe he was a gun in training but he performed below even my low expectations. I honestly don't even have a point beyond this, I'm just so ****ing confused by it all.

Old player + bad game in a loss ≠ cooked

Exactly. Grundy particularly. He was actually really good, if it weren't for about 70% of his kicks being awful. Which of course means he wasn't very good. But sometimes you just have a night where every kick is a shocker. It happens. Point is he moved well.

As for Jack, very low minutes. Suggests he's injured or struggling with no preseason. Either way, he should be "rested" next week, but it doesn't mean he's done for good.

Smith is the only one who is a real concern. Just looks a yard slower. Effort is there, but looks tired and can't keep up. He's only 28 though, so again, might just be a niggle or something. I feel like a groin injury would explain a lot of his slowness, lack of sideways agility, poor kicking, etc.

5: GWS (H)
6: Carlton (A)
7: Brisbane (H)
8: North (A)
9: St Kilda (A)
10: Hawks (H)
11: Bye

Could win 4 of those which would put us at 4-6 at the bye. Seasons not over yet.

Carlton game is 50/50
Brisbane yer i can see a win there
North nup
St.Kilda will run us off our legs 50/50
Hawks 50/50

Sigh.

At least we tried hard for most of the game. Effort around the ball was nice, shame about the use of it.

Defence though, wtf? Apart from Marsh all of them made a heap of mistakes.

Jack looks done. Hannebery and Parker still off the boil.

At least our kids are good, lol. Hopefully we can get someone with pace and skills with our Top 10 pick.

That's the thing.

We have zero chance if kicking a winning score. None.

That has done it for me. We have no chance with Horse this year.

Pretty hard on the coach when a fair players have shocking skills to even consider carrying out a simple game plan. Add a few of our missing key players and i have a feeling things wouldnt be so bad. The kids are doing well, we are just finding out some of the more senior players have suddenly caught playerpastitus and that is now bogging the whole team as a whole.

If it was good enough for O'Keefe it should be for Jack. When a player starts to go to ground every time he is in a contested situation he is feeling perceived pressure and devoid of any confidence he can win a one on one. He is gone unfortunately.
Same could be said of Smith, unfortunately, he's now too slow!

Was good in the first half. But yeah, faded badly in the second, most likely on the back of so little preseason.

Papley was alright. He gave us an option up forward something we have lacked. Go easy.

Hanners parker rubbish

Kennedy carries the team

Both Hanners and Parker not fully fit. Prob still getting over the umps in the gf too. They'd worked their life for that day.
Kennedy spent a lot of the game handballing to a contest or directly to the opposition (see Hanners and Parker).

Can't kick a winning score
Can't transition the ball cleanly (at all?)
Can't run with any speed
Can't defend opposition I50s the way we used to
^^^Not a winning formula.

Loving Hayward & Newman's work though. Found a couple there.
Reid was a good target all night, inside 50 and up the ground.
Buddy battled on and did some nice things despite clearly being hurt.

If we go 0-22 I'll still love this club.

We held the Eagles to under 100 points at home, we play to minimize the damage. It's frustrating to watch but I can understand why we do it especially with the defence the way it is at the moment.

Mate. If you only have to kick 70 to beat us how good does the defence have to be?

They still scored 91.

I mean really, how is this structure going to score 92?

They were off a 5 day break as well.

Nothing changed. Again.

Groundhog day plus deja Vu all over again.

I just want the players to be given a chance.
