Just listened to it for the first time today at a mates and i gotta say that i wasnt a big fan before, but that was a great sounding album, i agree that the lyrics are a little bad but it is easily made up by the sound of these tracks.
U-Fig was easily the standout for me

I dont even hate Darons singing all that much. It sounds crap and doesnt suit and is whiny...but its not the reason I dont like the album. The style of song is too similar....the amount of fluff songs has gone from one or two good ones an album to 4 or 5 terrible songs with terrible lyrics. Whether thats Darons doing or not I dont know...it probably is...but even if Serj was singing those songs I dont think they would sound too good.

I think its just a poor album. Listen to S/T or Toxicity and then listen to that. Just sounds second rate.

yeah i can see where your coming from. Nothing will ever match up to the first self titled album, that was simply awesome, no bad tracks on it. Toxicity i couldnt listen to Jet Pilot or Bounce, and Steal This i struggled to get through half the songs. Mezmerize was better and Hypnotize was better than that, but its gonna take a fair bit to be compared with the self titled.

i think this album is very good and much better than mesmerize. I have always been a fan of soad ever since their self titled album and i must admitt that some of their older stuff was much better, however in saying that the new album has some very cool tracks on it.

I had another listen last night and its not as drastically crap as the first listen. But still...theres very little variety in the songs.....theres either slow ones with Daron singing, or ridiculously quick ones.

Theres some absolute crap on that album tho. Kill Rock n Roll has to be the worst song ive heard in a long long long time.

ive had a few listens now and these are my reviews on the songs:

Attack is well weird, i guess its ok in bits but its rather odd, still i can listen to it. Dreaming is decent and worth a listen, but Kill Rock n Roll is easily my least favourite, just cant get into it and Daron's singing is just horrible. Hypnotize is good, but heard it plenty of times but still is a pretty good song, Stealing Society is 1 of my favs, great tune and singing no to bad, but very good. Tentative is ok, and the starting music of U-Fig sounds alot like Chop Suey to me, and overall isnt that bad of a song. Holy Mountains is simply awesome, brilliant music and the singing in the verses sends a chill down your spine: can you hear their haunting presence.... and can you hear the holy mountains..it is awesome! the music mixes with the lyrics really well and it is great. Vicinity of Obscenty is also odd, it goes fast, slow, talk jiberish, normal, its rather odd, but decent. Shes like Herion has good music but the singing is ********house, and Lonely Day is a pretty good slow song, reminds me a bit of Spiders, but not as good. And finishing is the 2nd part of Soldier Side, which is simply brilliant. The lyrics are so powerful and although it isnt very heavy, is a great song. It is 1 of the songs where Darons voice suits the song and when Serj puts in his bit, it is outstanding.

Overall, an improvement on Mezmerize but still not up to the level of the self titled and Toxicity. Still, good album with a couple of standouts, that really make you get addicted to the album.

I personally feel its been rushed. Differing opinion to those on here. I have all 4 of their albums and this one just feels the most rushed of them all. Some of the sounds and switches to different guitar riffs just dont work for me.

One thing I do like, however, is Serj's vocals.

yeah, i will have to agree with you on that mate, Self Titled and Toxicity are simply by far their best albums, much prefer their Self Titled album over all their albums, but as i said, Hypnotize for me if alot better than Mesmerize and Steal this Album.

Steal This Album was never meant to be anything special, they were just left over songs.

It would be interesting to see if it was made into 1 album, all the best songs in 1, post what songs you would think would be in it, say there was 14 songs.

what really annoys me is that if it was meant to be '1' album, they could have fitted both albums onto one disc. therefore, they coulda sold it as one.

they are jut money driven.
