First wehad the KKK T Shirts.
Then we had the 2007 Grand Final Tshirts
Then the best of them all... The Max Rooke Tshirts.

What will it be this year? The Max Tees (Damn I wish I got a Max Hoodie... I doubt the site is still up?) were a great christmas present success.... Who will it be this year?

Get designing people.

This was the design of the Max Tees and hoodies if any new posters were wondering:

A Shane Mumford tee would work beautifully.

I've already got some severe manlove for him and the choice of potential phrases for the shirts/hoodies is plentiful.
It practically designs itself. :D

OOh yeah - I'm loving Shane Mumford. He's my second favourite player (behind awesome Maxxy of course!) and I can see great things are to come from him.

Moons, what we need is something solid. I'm thinking mt rushmore (with 4 top liners) with a slogan under it . Need time to think.

I'm sure you could pull that off.

Just beware that by the end of the whole Max Tshirt episode either he or the club put the word out that their image is their own and cannot be used for any unauthorised purpose. Their words (paraphrased), not mine.

I'd imagine they'd take the same view of Mummy.

If they were ordered in bulk and profits made as a donation to the playing group, would they mind then?

How did this come to a head?

I ordered a Max t-shirt just today. Designed it myself and submitted it to one of those sites that makes them for you.

I would think that if people are ordering their own individual shirts with no profit being derived, they'd have a hard time of stopping anything.

From memory the problem they had wasn't necessarily that profits were being made (which I'm sure they also weren't happy with), but it was more the fact that it was an unauthorised use of a players image.

I believe there is a distinction between the media using player's images in an editorial context (i.e, public interest etc...) but to use an image to sell an unauthorised Tshirt or product is a no go.

I imagine that they see the players, and their image, as an integral part of their brand, and they don't want anyone messing with it.

They were pretty late on the whole Max Tshirt thing, but I'd be guessing they'd have their eyes open to it now.

....Anyway it's just a 'be prepared for what might happen', that's all.

Let's see if Geelong can do a Prince and start suing fans!

I can't remember details, but some buyers/sellers (...not me) were sent emails from people representing Max that they should desist from the the Tshirt selling/buying. And @ least one of the sites was shut down immediately, so something must have happened.

Having said that if an individual (on the quiet) decided to get their own Tshirt made, there's not a great deal they could do about it. But when it's posted all over forums, links given, people buying in bulk etc... then there may be a problem.

I was quite sure the problem was the web site was making money using Max's image without consent.

I somewhat doubt I will be arrested for wearing my Max shirt

Right, that makes sense. If there was a retailer they could go after for selling shirts with Max's image they would do that. I recall that there were links to such a site way back when.

I think that makes the ordering your own option pretty safe though.

This gives all profits to the t-shirt company though.

An agreement should be made that the shirts can be made, but all the profits could be donated to the selected players chosen charity..

That would be cool, someone could set that up and make it an annual thing.

fwiw I liked the rushmore idea.

That agreement would have to be b/w you, the club and/or the player(s) involved, or possibly their managers.

....I'm guessing they'd want to see whether the Tshirt impacts on their brand (as they see it).

I wish the club would use some initiative and come up with some cool stuff themselves! Most of the clothes are crap and hardly any can really be worn fashionably.

They should get some university design students to do some stuff, or hold a competition then sell the designs.

Some smartie needs to create a range of cool stuff for the top 50 or so players in the league and go through the players assoc for consent and to feed funds back to the players as a royalty.

If you don't use the AFL logo I can't see how they would need to get involved.

The baldies for rushmore is a great idea.

Some pretty good poses available due to the footy full on stuff.
