Yes, I don't feel all that keen to go for a Hobart team. A Tasmanian team yes, a Hobart team, not so much. It's not like it's Ricky Ponting's home town even.

I can see myself just following the Tassie blokes in whatever game is on. I will probably watch the Hobart games but I don't really see myself going down to watch them. I would like to say its more disinterest in the whole stupid idea of it.. what do others think who live somewhere which isn't in one of the capital cities with a team? Feel less supportive of the team with it as a city and not your state? I just don't get why if you want to 'expand' the game you would change from states to cities, why not just have WA, Tassie, SA, Qld, Vic(or Vic country), NSW(or country), Melbourne and Sydney?

Chris Hartley signs for the Brisbane Heat, I guess to back-up Brendon McCullum depending on how many games he is free for.

Quality 'keeper and person so he will be an asset to the line-up. That's 15 now for them - looks like Boof is keeping 3 spots up his sleeve for other players for closer to the season.

They must have a few dollars in the cap still so might be able to snap up another overseas players even if McCullum or Vettori is restricted.:thumbsu:

Off the top of my head....Clarke & Johnson are the only CA contracted players not signed up. And both have said no. Copeland hasn't got a contract but wants one. @ NSW he, Beau Casson & Burt Cockley don't have contracts, with Cockley returning to bowling in November and is aiming for a contract. And there's a couple of rookies too. I'll let the others do the rest of the states, but Chris Rogers doesn't have one

I've already posted this, but the easiest list to quickly check is here:

http://bigbashboard.com/

If they aren't on these lists, they aren't officially signed yet...
Well, no that's not all that helpful. Simply lists who has been signed, when what I want is those who haven't been.

The BigBashBoard is mine :D and I think I've still a got a list of the players from the state squads (not sure if they are this years, or last years squads though) that haven't been signed by one of the new teams, I'll have a look tonight and see about adding it to the site.

If not, I should have stats from the last 6 years of the Big Bash added to the site in the next couple of weeks and as a result a list of everyone who has previously played T20 but hasn't been signed up yet should be easy to generate.

Hey Dean, just saw on Twitter (amongst the riot clean-up updates) that the Adelaide Strikers have foreshadowed an announcement on the recruitment of a bowler tomorrow . . .

Updated on the Strikers front:

they've signed South Africa, Somerset, Pune Warriors paceman Alfonso Thomas.

A T20 specialist so they should have him for the whole tournament.

Means Adelaide have two spots left; Brisbane Heat have 3, Sydney Sixers have two, Melbourne Stars have three, Perth Scorchers have 3, Melbourne Renegades have two, Hobart have one spot.

So total of 16 spots left to be filled by December.

Would be a great story if they do well.

Agree.

Nice idea though filling the squad they obviously want and then leaving two spots open for local talent from grade cricket. Will be given to those who perform best over the few month or so of the local competition.

Looks like Perth picked up on the Brisbane Heat's idea there, and good on them.

I saw last month the Heat (or Qld Cricket, can't remember which) announced they were playing a four-team T20 competition in October, with four players picked from that to go to the Futures League T20, and two of them to get Heat contracts once the Futures League was done.

There are some feeder tournaments/matches going on this month (saw a mention of Ipswich playing Toowoomba in a few weeks, and I know Warehouse Cricket and the Brisbane Grade competition are both holding T20 matches to give players the chance to be picked for the four-team competition in October.

Be good if all the BBL teams were able to do that - would certainly build some good ties with the grass roots competitions around the place.:thumbsu:

Edit: here's a link from the local paper where I saw the report

If I were a mega rich, I'd be doing the exact same thing but even more so, not limiting it to young blokes. Use the majority of your salary for 4 or 5 big names and then fill the rest of the side with premier grade guns from around the country.

In light of this stuff being back in the news I've updated the OP. Brisbane and SCG Sixers the main beneficiaries. Hayden, Hogg & Warne the uh big additions. Warne hasn't been confirmed but it seems he's pretty much 100% cert for MCG Stars, who I guess will now fill their last overseas spot. Hopefully they'll actually pick someone exciting, which they didn't first time round. The Sixers in the same position. Lumb. Jesus christ.

This Raadschelders guy you'd think would be the least likely of the 4 but hey who knows.

With that Hogg signing the average age of the 4 non-Western Australian contracted players turning out for Perth is.....37. Of course that'll change but really come on now

Scorchers last two spots will be filled by local talent at the WACA Grade level.

Or Liam Davis and Mitchell Johnson....Oh Micky. Micky Micky Micky. For every good thing you say.......

Davis gets scorched

also changed the format to the player lists - I added pretty numbers!

Shane warne confirmed signing for melbourne stars.
It's official. Shane Warne will play a full @BigBashLeague season for Melbourne Stars (@StarsBBL) at the MCG. Welcome back, @warne888!

I said it earlier, but the stars look like the team to beat

Batting depth with White, DHuss, Bailey, Voges, Simpson, Wade ,Quiney as well as another International available (I would think they would go for a batsman, who would be available to pick ?)

Bowling depth with Siddle, McKay, Hastings, Faulkner, Wright, Pattinson and Warne

I reckon they'll be leaving that overseas signing very late given the current uncertainly over Haddin and Paine. As far as I can tell Wade's the only keeper in that team. A call-up would leave them pretty stuffed. Of course they have one spot for a local too but all 8 teams have taken local keepers + back-ups. We'd be getting into 11th/12th best territory

cough steve davies & jos buttler cough
