McPharlin for Gehrig, its the perfect matchup, don't dellude yourselves people and put McPharlin at CHB. He no longer has the engine to follow Riewoldt around.

M.Carr for DalSanto. M.Carr is in terrific form. Massive scalps the past few weeks. Has kept Goodwin (16 possies) and Hodge (10 possies) very quiet.

Longmuir for Kosi, they matchup excellently.

Riewoldt looms large, combination of Mundy and Johnson, maybe Thornton from a wing to help out. Perhaps even Grover depending who returns.

Hayden on Milne, if he dominates shift Parker onto him.

Either way it'll be a cracker, i got the feeling Saints think they owe us one after the Tasi debacle.

Anyone think it might be a good idea rushing Grover in to play on Gehrig, play McPharlin on Riewoldt, Johnson on Kosi, Parker on Milne and Hayden on whoever else is down there. Or if we have a bigger opponent, swap Hayden and Parker.

Frees up Dodd to take Ball and Matty Carr for Dal Santo.

Mundy and Black to be the instigators off half back.

It would be good if we had Crowley so he could keep mind of Gram while playing half forward, and sneek in for a couple of goals. Also need someone at HF to mind Fisher. Webster will probably get the job.

If we can stop the drive Fisher and Gram give, and the ball winning ability of Ball and Dal Santo, we should win. They are the 4 players to stop imo.

In an ideal world that would be pretty good in terms of match-ups. But Hayden can take care of Milne, and I love watching Parker and the Pee-Train. They do have a tall forward line don't they. But I think our backs match up pretty well on them. Plus, their midfield is not the fastest going around which helps us restrict the forwards impact.

Playing a defensive foward on Gram is very important. Watching the Saints games recently they have looked very ordinary whenever he has a down patch during a game and doesn't provide that run. Crowley would have been perfect. Webster should do the job well though, perhaps even Schammer who's pressure and tackling these past few games have been great.

Thornton usually plays on Reiwoldt and Grover on Gehrig so they'll have to find suitable matchups for them. I'm not so sure I like the idea of Johnno on Reiwoldt especially in man on man situation, so I'd stick McPharlin on him because he can definitly compete with him in the air and does have the pace around the ground. Parker on Gehrig perhaps? Milne played like a loose backmen against the Cats, so who knows where he will be.

I do think we have the players to matchup fairly well with them though.

Be a very intresting game this is what I would do

Parker on Gherig - Hes got pace and muscle for him if not working then Mcpharlin.

McPharlin on Reiwoldt - Got Pace and Engine I think

Jono on Kozi - I reckon a definate winner for us

Ask Mundy to drop infront of Reiwoldt and Gherig

Hayden on their small forward

Carr brothers on their midfield - harvey, hayes and ball and delsanto

My Question is who will be on which midifielder?

Please put longmuir down back so we don't have a repeat of this time last year. :p

Riewoldt will play up on the wing with kosi and G-train deep.

ya but my question is who do we play on

Lenny Hayes

Harvey?

Ball?

DalSanto?

subtle, I like it :D

midfield battle will be very important. If we play quick attacking football again I think we can manage it!

Anyone know how Grover went in the local league on the weekend? Did he do enough to be selected? If so, who gets dropped?

Also, anyone got any news on Crowley's injury? Any idea when he can resume? I can't seem to find anything about it!

I really don't think the Saints will be able to keep up with the attacking style of game we've been playing lately. I watched the Geelong/Saints match and don't think the Saints are playing at the same level as Fremantle right now. I'm tipping an end to the close ones between the two sides with a complete stomping of St. Kilda! :)

Hase on 10 News tonight said that Grover will be playing WAFL this weekend and should be ready for selection by the Derby and also Crowley will be fit by the Derby.

Said he himself is 50-50 for the Saints game too.

I think if you guys put Longmuir on Kosi it's a win for us. That takes away one of your most dangerous forwards and given Maguire is out Rix will probably have to go Longmuir if you guys play him forward.

Spot on.
Only a negative mindset would see us play Longmuir on Kosi down back. I honestly don't think it will happen at this stage. Jlo will play forward and rotate with Sandi in the ruck.

Also, putting a run-with player on Gram is great call SandyMac! He's been the driving force behind a lot St Kilda's forward thrusts this year, and a blanket job by Webster or even Dodd perhaps??? would rob them of a lot of run.

It's a real shame that Crowley is injured, as another tagger is probably needed to shut down Harvey/Ball/Dal Santo. Hope MCarr is up for another big scalp.

I thought about that too. I guess it depends how many forwards you play. At different times Longmuir may be placed in defence, forward or ruck.

If you remember the game last year, at times Longmuir was playing back pocket on Kosi, but still drifted forward to kick the winning goal.

I'm dead set certain that McPharlin will start on Gehrig, all this talk about Parker just won't happen. McPharlin doesn't have the engine to chase Riewoldt around all game.

If Riewoldt plays forward i imagine that Johnson and Mundy will combine against him, but if he plays midfield/wing i have a feeling that Dodd may get the job. Leaving Mundy/Johnson to combine against Kosi.

If all of Riewoldt, Kosi and Gehrig are forward i think that Longmuir will play back with one of the aforementioned playing spare man.

The good thing about the Saint Midfielders is that like the Dockers ones, they aren't particuly quick, and it's the quickies they normally have trouble with!

MCarr on Dal Santo - Dal Santo is a tremendous player, and always seems to find room on the field, but he isn't exactly fast. With the negating jobs MCarr has done recently, thats a good fit.

Carr on Ball - Easy one to figure out. 2 hard nosed players, neither of them fast. Great battle.

??? on Harvey - Not sure who the right matchup would be there. Crowley would of been nice, someone who can make Harvey accountable around the ground. Harvey has incredible endurance and middle pace, but he isn't the blistering pace type.

I think McPharlin must play on Reiwlodt for periods of the game especially if thier midfield is on top. If we can establish some dominance then he can rest on Gehrig. Parker to start on Gehrig.

Kosi could be a danger. Longmuir played on him last year and did a top job. Don't be suprised if Dodd gets the job.

I think we will go head to head with DalSanto with perhaps Bell.

Matt Carr will tag Harvey.

JCarr and Ball to have a good battle.

Up forward they will have to contend with Murphy and Pavlich.

Baker will get Farmer? Wiz is in good nick. I think Isolating the wiz in the square with Baker could be a ploy, surely Jeff would outmark him.

Webster will get Gram.

Montagna can be damaging, if he plays he must be watched by McManus.

They have ruck problems we could dominate in the centre clearances where we are improving.

Does anyone else have a really good feeling about this game?
No matter which way I look at it, all I can see is the boys tearing them a new one
The only one that really concerns me is Reiwoldt and we have the technology these days to shut him down.

This is what concerns me.
History has taught me that as soon as I start to get too excited I am usually disapointed the side.
So right now...I am quietly optimistic though mildly concerned.

hehe don forget shaun macmanus to play for us...he can be the free midfielder instead of us trying to shut them down what if we take them on and beat them ....

I think if we play to our recent form the Saints have little chance, however in this competition if you do not put it together on the day a good team such as st.kilda may be able to punish us.

Always respect your opponent Lach , this game will not be a walk in the park.

Personally , I am quietly confident and terrified at the same time. It is hard to win seven in a row as first you have to win six in a row.
