Taking beer back to your seats

the problem is that this is not about the footy, but backwards attitudes to basic civil determinations that lag inexplicably behind the rest of a modern society.

If a minority cannot conduct themselves with good grace, remove them, not the freedoms of the majority.

we live in a secular society, but we can't be entertained on good friday?
now that's peculiar :D

wow, this late at night i almost need a dictionary to read that, but after reading that i think you make a good points and good sense! well written...

of course this is only a problem with beer is it?

people don't get up to get a coke or a hotdog?
I agree that most people will be sensible enough to get up after a goal, like they are with non-beer matters.

Not only that, but you can then bring back a beer from a break without having to skull it to get back in time to watch the game.

It's about time AAMI joined the rest of the world....so props for that.

Having said that - it really won't change my day much.

I'm on the wing - so I'm not in a "wet" area and I won't be asking to move to one either.

I enjoy having a few beers at the footy - but my routine is normally to have a few in the carpark before the game - wander over in time for the game - then have one at half time....so I'm not really a big buyer at the game.

If after the 2008 trial they decide to relax the rules everywhere - I still can't see my day changing that much. It will probably just mean that there won't be the stampede to the bar at the 25 minute mark of the second qtr - so I'll be able to wait until the half time siren before leaving my seat as I should be able to get a drink more quickly. Depending on how long it takes - I'll either still drink it at the bar to stretch the legs - or take it back if time runs out. Either way - I can't see me drinking any more.

Hopefully....like the highrises at Glenelg, The West Beach Mariner, Daylight Saving, Trams down King William Street, and the introduction of Decimal Currency, Adelaidians will somehow find a way to come to grips with this major cultural and philisophical progression. It will be tough - but together - we can get through it....:)

Though I am ambivalently opposed ( as I can see this causing more trouble than not) I have been known to have a shot of Lochinvar just to keep the toes warm of course.

To the tune of Duncan

I love to have a beer at AAMI
Love to have abeer at AAMZ
I drink in moderation
And now I wont miss most of the gamz

that's shocking

If this does prove to be a success - i can see it being like the MCG with crowded areas where you cant squeeze one more person in and others that are completely empty - the Stadium shouldnt be an all wet area, as it would be against the family zone idea.

To keep promoting the game to families there has to be a refuge.

I would keep the northern grandtsand dry, and encourage that as the family section/end. Have the wet zone from the middle of the wings back down to the south end. Only problem there is the light issue, to enjoy a drink in your seat you need to be looking into the sun for the afternoon games. but whatever.

If this happens, i would uproot the entire seating system and ask people if they want the wet or dry zone and try to keep them in the same place if possible.

and does this mean they will be erectign a new bar behind bays 111-114?

sitting in bay 113 means you either have to go to the crowded members bar in the middle of the wing or go to the outer which is just as far to the premiers bar.

Hope they put something behind 113 or something.

so the grandstands should be the wet areas because of the sun?

What beer to ya get over their. It'd be cool if it were Coopers Sparkling Ale straight out of the tab but I imagine its Carlton draft from a plastic cup

GOLD!!!

Has anyone seen the debate over the trams on the AdelaideNow site - it shows how much some people in Adelaide WANT to live in a backwater.

Personally, what what i see at most sporting events those with a beverage generally stand, which would mean there wouldnt be too many takers in the grandstand, so they should make it a family area.

Could make it the whole north end, but then the Crows Cheersquad may get a tad annoyed at the idea of them having to move.

its just a thought, but as long as they re-structure it in a way that enables people to take drinks to standing areas at the back of the bays i dont really mind.

Doesn't bother me at all if alcohol is allowed to be consumed in your seats. I've been to the G and TD a number of times over the past two years and have never had any problems.

Exactly and as soon as excessive drinking and spillage becomes a problem remove the person creating the problem not the system in place that allows it. Maybe if it becomes a problem maybe the red cotes will do their jobs.

It’s not going to affect me because I don’t drink at the football and secondly I don’t sit in a wet area. So i don't really care.

Haha could you imagine if it was Sparklies on tap... people would be 100 times as sloshed at the footy. We get either West End Draught or Tooheys New so it's nothing special. I long for the day Coopers sponsors the SANFL....

They way I see it is for the last 17 years ive had to put up with not being able to have a beer at AAMI, and having to listen to some of the rot that comes out of the old knitters mouths. So now its time for some other people to put up with something they dont like eg people drinking in their seats. To them I say, grab a coldie and all aboard the beer train!!!! WOOHOO!

So not wanting to have beer poured down your back is aniti-development how:confused:

I'm not opposed to a trial but why do it in the northern stand where the rows are so close everyone already has skid marks on their shins.

so surely beer down your back is a function of engineering rather than liquor licencing

;)
