Taking beer back to your seats

I cant see logistically how it can be done at our crowds. It would have to be all or nothing.

As others have said, logistically it would probably only work for Port games because of the room to move, but I personally would love to be able to enjoy a couple of beers while watching the game live. Unfortunately there are too many ********s that will spoil it for the responsible ones, then families get upset and footy is so much about family enjoyment, as it should be.

Perhaps they could do a bit of an Adelaide Oval thing (not sure if they still do it) where they only serve midstrength and light beer and allow you to take it to your seat. Obvilously at A.O. there are specific zones but its much easier to do that there, they'd have to allow it everywhere at AAMI because of the amount of reserved seating.

If they did allow alcohol back to seats, I'd like to see an SMS service implemented to report drunken or extremely poor behaviour to security, whereby patrons can simply SMS their bay and row numbers and plain clothed police/security can check out the validity of the report. If it proves valid then the lout can be removed from the ground.

Actually, I'd kinda like to see that implemented anyway. There's logistics to work out but it'd be a good deterrent, convenient and safe for people to report such behaviour.

I find it difficult to comprehend the absolute desperate need to drink beer whilst watching the footy. Slamming down beers in the breaks  I don't get it sorry. Good luck to those if it comes in, but better not spoil my game (gotta feeling it will). I can drink with the best of them, just know the time and place I guess.

Just get smashed before the game. It's not like they don't let drunks in.
At my absolute most intoxicated, I'd still far more coherent than the average sober Port fan. Just hide your crows scarf and bring in a port power keyring or something, so when the redcoats ask if you're drunk, just flash the merchandise and they'll instantly apologise and let you through.

I normally have a couple of beers with the Old man in the carpark and a chat with Ms. Noo.

I'm not fussed either way but the option of having a beer at my seat would be nice.

And lots of us consider a footy game to be the time and place. ;)

Ive got the feeling those that 'dont want their game spoiled' also dont want little annoyances like other fans cheering to ruin their football experience.

Its a footy match, theres no better time or place to be on the piss.

"can you keep it down please, I cant hear my radio"

"I will get a red coat if you get any louder"

These are classic comments I have copped this year. The first one at a Port game.

And there are bars and areas to drink

My annoyance is that I dont want to be standing up twice a quarter as people walk by

But hey thanks for the generalisation :)

Turn abouts fair play. :thumbsu: I think people are generalising about people who want to enjoy a beer at the game.

Im also not convinced that you would have to stand up any more than usual. Should we ban people going to the pisser as well?

If they get on the juice then they would go twice as much :D

Fair call.

People are still on the piss though. Im not convinced that id drink more if i were allowed to drink at my seat. The only difference is, if i go for a beer at the quarter time break, i can bring it back to my seat and drink it in a responsible manner, instead of being forced to skull in order to not miss the start of the next quarter.

It is harder to get pissed when you drink at your seat. The way we have it, it actually promotes binge drinking.

I think it would be an improvement.

Maybe help people be a bit louder, though the old ladies that I sit near are louder and shout more things out than anyone else.

Bar this fat guy that constantly yells out tosser at the umpires.

I think it is a good idea. I would love to have a beer in my seat. Just well police it and kick the ferals out who act like uncivilised goats. Suspend them for a few games or take away their memberships for repeat offenders. 3 strikes your out forever. Everybody gets what they want then and it wont deteract from the real reason we are there.

There's no need to have alcohol at your seats.

If you can't wait 25-30 minutes for a drink then I strongly suggest AA.

Noone said they can't, just that we should be able to drink in our seats should we choose to. Why do we have less rights than patrons at other football venues?

Some people enjoy having a beer while watching the footy, it has nothing to do with being an alcoholic you ignorant fool.

And there in lies the problem. Some can't enjoy themselves without being total clowns and spoil it for the rest who don't do anything wrong.

Before they clamped down on it there was some very bad scenes, and as the club wishes it to become a family type environment then the rest suffer.

I have mine before and after the game and enjoy the contest in between.

You can quite easily get blinded at the bar and then go and cause trouble, they still serve alcohol in the stadium you just have to watch it on tv or drink in the pig pen like a POW.
I just don't see why paid up members don't get a choice whether they want to have a beer while watching the game or not, everywhere else in Australia you can drink... and it's not like there are massive dramas each week.

My preference is to be able to bring a beer back to my seat, like I can at other stadiums. Though given we can't get access to decent beer like Coopers, I'm not too fussed.

Anyone who plays up, is kicked out & they take record of their membership for say a 2 strikes policy that the membership is removed.

But IMO those same people who become arse clowns will find a way of spoiling the day anyway – with or without alcohol involved.

Because like other have said; beer is still accessible and if they want to be jerks at the football they will indulge in alcohol in different places.

Alcohol is not the issue; the issue is trying to stop jerks becoming even bigger jerks after having a few to many.

If they drink too much and start carrying on like buffoons, have the police kick them out and fine them. If they get issued with a few $1000 fines they will either start behaviour themselves or stop drinking at the football (or stop being a buffoon)
