Taking beer back to your seats

Drinking in your seat will not affect the "arse clowns"

The only disadvantage I can see is having to stand up and stand in middle of quarters.

That happens already because people leave their seat early to beat the rush for the toilet, food outlets, beer ect, ect.

IMO what could prevent people from coming and going during a quarter should be like at the tennis.

In the tennis if you leave your seat during a change of ends you have to wait until the player sit down again. If you leave your seat half way through a quarter to indulge in any of the AAMI Stadium amenities you should not be allowed back into your seat. The red coats should block the re-entrance of traffic back into the stadium during a quarter. So either you do what you have to do at the end of a quarter or you wait (or wait at the other end if it that urgent).

Or a goal

The only change I want is to ban Screaming bored kids at the footy. Or not allow mothers to let them drink Ribena or red cordial....There is a kid that sits behind me. He screams in my ear and kicks my seat. The mum dont care...I swear by the way she looks she should be at Port games;)

I'm all for it too and agree it will make the crowd louder... however...

there is nothing more annoying than people getting up during the game and trying to get past you. there is absolutely no room in between the seats you all have to either stand up or crunch your body up.

there will constantly be people getting up to get drinks or going to toilet as a result of the drinks.

But IMO those same people who become arse clowns will find a way of spoiling the day anyway – with or without alcohol involved.

Because like other have said; beer is still accessible and if they want to be jerks at the football they will indulge in alcohol in different places.

Alcohol is not the issue; the issue is trying to stop jerks becoming even bigger jerks after having a few to many.

If they drink too much and start carrying on like buffoons, have the police kick them out and fine them. If they get issued with a few $1000 fines they will either start behaviour themselves or stop drinking at the football (or stop being a buffoon)

But it's the scale of problems that are caused and the extra numbers of these ass clowns that was the problem. See I bet everyone one here who wants to take a beer back to their seats do not go with their family members, especially children. They would be young single guys in the main. But you take the family man or the elderly couple who just do not wish to have these morons within in their precinct are the ones that do not want put up with their behaviour, or have to stand every so often as they either go to get the drink, come back with it, or go and come back to the toilets.

Why is the Mexican wave now banned from the cricket? It's these ass clowns that want to take things that little bit further and spoil it for the rest.

Drinking in the seats would be great, last time i went to a match at the MCG, the 05 GF, I really enjoyed having a beer in the seats. If the SANFL are worried about families all they have to do is have "family" zones and "licenced" zones or something. It is a great idea and footy park really need to get with the times.
Yeh, like Adelaide Oval.

And pretty much any other Oval/Stadium/Festival/Function in the 21st century.

Taking beer back to your seats

I was reading the Adelaide Advertiser today and as I was skimming through a Power story I can across a part that caught my eye. I noticed that Port Adelaide is trying to negotiate with the SANFL to allow certain bays at AAMI to take beer back to their seat. Should the Power manage to get his approved with the SANFL would the AFC be interested in sanctioning this as well for our members?

I don’t drink when I go to the football (I drive) so taking beer back to my seat isn’t a big deal to me but I am not apposed to other people indulging themselves in the amber fluid. If the Power can get this approved we should be adding it to the agenda as well.

FFS its 2007; not 1973 – get with the program SANFL.

I think the PAFC should designate bay 119 as a alcohol zone.

Drink rules relaxed at AAMI Stadium

Drink rules relaxed at AAMI Stadium

MICHELANGELO RUCCI, CHIEF FOOTBALL WRITER

October 30, 2007 01:15am
EXCLUSIVE: FOOTBALL fans will, for the first time, be allowed to take alcoholic drinks to their seats at AAMI Stadium next season.

The SANFL yesterday approved a trial in two designated sections of AAMI Stadium – the 6758-seat northern grandstand and four bays of the members' grandstand – with a strict security system.

The ban on alcohol being taken from the bars to seats – introduced from the stadium's opening in 1974 – has fallen against public demand.

An independent survey of 5000 patrons at AAMI Stadium revealed 58 per cent of members and season ticketholders wanted the ban lifted.

In the corporate section, the in-favour vote was 72 per cent.

The SANFL will open 21 per cent of its outer seats for alcohol and 16 per cent of its members' section from bays 111-114.

There will be extra security of at least 18 more staff members in these areas, including plain-clothed security staff.

SANFL chief executive Leigh Whicker yesterday said the new policy meets public demand at AAMI Stadium. It is in line with other major AFL venues.

"With this in mind, we will put alcohol at our seats on trial in designated areas," Whicker said. "But we will not lose our strong focus on patron safety and comfort.

"We worked with our two AFL clubs, SA Police and the Liquor Licensing Commission to put a responsible policy in place – and we will regularly review it."

Port Adelaide pushed for the alcohol ban to be lifted after repeated appeals from its members.

Power chief executive John James said he expected the new policy to make AAMI Stadium more attractive as a venue against pubs showing live telecasts of Port and Crows home games.

"We know that many of our supporters would like to have a beer while watching the football," he said. "We know that 99 per cent of people drink in moderation and this initiative might encourage some of our supporters to re-engage with our club in 2008."

Crows members have in previous surveys voted against lifting the alcohol ban. But Adelaide commercial chief Phil Harper said the new research had shown a shift in attitudes from Crows fans.

"We are well aware this is a very sensitive issue, but our research indicates we have a large percentage of members who want to have a drink with their mates while watching their team play," he said.

"We are trying to cater for these members.

"But we underline if this trial in 2008 is unsatisfactory, we will push strongly to revert back to an alcohol-free stadium."

Re: Drink rules relaxed at AAMI Stadium

Haha, even though it looks like we are moving around behind the goals I can see the old ladies already blaming alcohol on the rowdiness at Bay 114.

I'm probably going to be in the minority (who dont have to get drunk to enjoy themselves), but I dont like it. The seating is just too close and its too awkward getting trays of drinks to the middle seats in the rows particularly. Its inevitable that drunk tosspots are going to spill their beer all over their neighbours. People will drink more, getting more intoxicated, leading to more trouble. Personally, I dont see why alcoholic drink needs to be sold at the footy at all, but if it does, at least provide an environment where other people wont be affected by it.

I disagree, I will now be able to drink my beer at a regular pace rather than going down and trying to knock off beers between game play.

This makes it hard for me to give up my seats in the Northern for the Bay 142 Gun Club.

Also Bay 114 is pretty much finished now. The only time drinking in this Bay will be allowed is when it is in the members section. This is most likely the reason we have not been offered tickets in this Bay for the Gun Club as the SANFL will be using it for this purpose. Drinking for the members.

I thought we were the same person!!:D

How will this seat thing work? Can you trade your current seats for beer seats?

I think the current allocated seats, in which you can drink alcohol, are just for the trial. If it goes well, I assume, everyone would be allowed alcohol in their seats.

No you're not in the minority, as i'm against people sitting down & having a quiet beer at the footy, i should also mention that i don't like to see any nudity in pornos either.

Its simple, if you dont want to sit with people driniking alcohol, then dont sit in those areas?!?! Its not rocket science. I for one know where I'll be sitting and I have no doubt the atmosphere will be turned up a few notches.
