I know a lot has been said about him and his departure last year. I, like many was very disappointed that he choose to leave.
Looking at the way he reacted to kicking a couple against the crows, kissing his jumper etc. he obviously loves CFC. As much as our club helped him turn his career around, his heart must have always been at Collingwood. I might not understand it but I can accept and respect it.
Best of luck Chris, just don't play well against us. Plus i'll be hoping Sandi runs though you:D

Oh and if one of the Mods can edit the Title so his name is correct

For future reference: Edit. Go Advanced. Change title. :thumbsu:

He never wanted to leave Collingwood in the first place. He came to Freo because we threw the picks at Collingwood and the money at him. That doesn't buy loyalty, because his loyalty was always with Collingwood.

It wasn't at all surprising that he left as soon as his contract was up, just like Croad.

I personally thought it was pretty insulting, he may not even be playing AFL if it was for FFC. I'd expect everyone playing at Fremantle right now to have the teams interests true at heart, but I guess he can't help how he feels, I just don't understand why he needed to express it to a national audience.

I understand how you feel summer, and i'd probably be the same too. But to some extent i think he feels like he owes Collingwood something. He was fairly inconsistent all those years ago yet had so much potential. Was a bit of a pain personality-wise and was entrenched into the "collingwood family" i guess and didn't really want to go. Since he's come back hes, to your credit, grown so much mentally and really matured.

I think he's just glad to be back and by sinking those goals he was able to show his appreciation for the club for taking him back i guess.

I dunno, i could be way off. But from a Collingwood point of view it was really nice to see, especially followed by the standing ovation as he ran off the ground.

You would like to hope that we have seen the error in our ways now with these kinda deals.
I would find it hard to believe that Harves would ever want someone at the club that didn't really want to be there.

This.

May it never happen again. Even if it was Dane Swan I still wouldn't be interested in paying for a mercenaries services that doesn't have the club at heart & costs us in valuable draft picks.

Obviously easy for you to say, but with one action of tugging at his jumper he galvanized the Collingwood supporter base but in my opinion insulted an entire institution that picked him up off the floor.

I'm sure I'll get over it, but he's in the category of sub-human in my book.

Sub human is a bit harsh. He's just a guy who never loved Freo. Just like all the other players we traded in who never loved Freo and couldn't wait to leave.

Yes, Freo turned his career around. But in a way, we had to. The club invested an enormous amount going after him, and to let him simply fade off into retirement would have been a terrible reflection on the club.

Sub human is a bit harsh. Sure, he mercenaried on us but thats footy. As Clay said I sincerely hope we never trade like that again. Vossy could've learnt from us.

Wait 'till free agency peeps, if some of you get angry now...

I'm not sure he technically 'mercenaried'. We were all over the moon when Bell came to us, but did he mercenary for North or just come home? What about Des? What about Farmer? Looks to me that Tarrant just enjoys being home.

Good point in the bold.

He certainly didn't help us get a good compo deal/trade, so stuck it up to us then too.

No love for the Taz following that and his open fawning over Collingwood since he got back to Melbourne seems to almost reek of being thankful that he's away from Freo.

Wil be interesting to see where things go with this. There may be some mercenarying (if there is such a word) by some players looking to pinch a flag before they retire.
We will hopefully see some guys come home too. What we need to establish is a strong alternative to WCE. A lot of kids drafted from WA still say they are WC fans. With free agency they are going to want to go to the club they barracked for. The only way around that mentality would be to throw more money at them then they probably deserve.
So we must develop a strong culture to encourage the good WA boys to sign with us.

Completely understand how he wanted to go back there.
Its gotta suck for players getting shipped off to other clubs/drafted interstate etc
Doesnt mean i will ever be happy with how he got there.
Still could of tried abit harder to get freo fair compensation but in the end he was talked out of it by collingwood an did what they wanted.
Sure u wanna get back their but atleast show some respect an make sure the club your leaving doesnt get shafted.

Im sure alot of Collingwood fans feel the same way about Anthony an how he got here.

No way. I've had enough of trading for players for no other reason than they are WA boys that want to come home. Any trades to be done on a needs basis, there must be a clear gap in our list and that player must match that need. Whether it's a WA boy or not makes no difference to me.

Still dont really a problem with Tarrant, he didn't do us any favours when he declared it was the pies or nothing but other than that, he came over, fullfiled his contract and didn't complain, in the process turning himself into an AA defender. He made it very clear he wanted back east after 09 but he was told that he had to finish the last year of his contract and he did.

Croad never did jack while playing for us and maybe that was just bad luck but at least Tarrant gave us some value for money. It'd be nice if every person that came to Freo fell in love and tattooed the anchor on but this is professional sport and not kids picking mates in a backyard.

tbh with his injuries I'm still not convinced that Tarrant moving on was bad for Freo. Elvis and Grover are in great form and we need to be preparing younger players to establish themselves in the 22, not holding on to a backline that could retire in one off season.

That is just the thing, free agency (as far as I know) means that players don't have to be "traded". If a players contract is finished he can go where ever he wants. His current club would get nothing, and as long as another club is willing to pay him he can go there with out a trade.
Or have I got this all wrong.

Nah, I believe you're right. The club who loses the player gets paid compensation according to a formula (similar to what occurred with the Gold Coast), but the club obtaining them loses nothing.

That's exactly the same as it is now, once your contract is up, you're free to do whatever you like without your current team getting compensation.

The difference is, with FA players will no longer need to run the PSD gauntlet. After however many years of service (I can't be bothered checking the exact details) with a particularl club a player is free to choose his new team.

Basically at the moment, to ensure a player ends up at the team he wants, he needs to get his current team and his desired team to come to a trade agreement. If that doesn't happen he's PSD bound and could end up anywhere. Under FA, this agreement between clubs isn't required and the player should end up where he wants.

You are correct sir... and tbh, we can all thank christ that it will be coming in when we are somewhere near the right track of being an attractive home to good footballers.. scary thought it FA came in 10 years ago.

You make it sound like he was delisted and Fremantle game him a second chance. You gave up pick #8 to secure him. West Coast were also keen to acquire his services but weren't willing to part with their first round pick. Fremantle wasn't his only option at the time.

He is referring to the fact that we, by making Tarrant a defender, extended his career. If it wasn't for that fact he probably would not have been picked up by Collingwood or any other side.

It wasn't pick 8 mate, I believe it was pick 10 who they then used on Ben Reid, who is one of the most promising young defenders in the league and together with Tarrant and Maxwell form probably the best defense in the AFL. Ably assisted by Shaw and O'Brien of course.

Yes, it ****ing stings :( Hopefully trades like that are a thing of the past.
