If they deregistered him as a player the AFL could be sued for restraint of trade… so they leave him registered and let the market sort it out
And the market did and nobody wanted him whatsoever. You'd need to be bribed a ton to even "turn your head"

I think its too early

Clubs would want him playing and training at a lower level for a year maybe 2 before looking at him seriously
not for his ability but more if he can stay out of trouble

We can hold two thoughts at once: what Thomas did was serious and unacceptable; and a club with proven appetite for oversight might be the safest place for the long, unglamorous work of reform.

And that club is Geelong.

Only their environment - stable, insular, relentlessly adult - is built to absorb the performative noise this recruit will no doubt attract.

If the AFL is serious about supervised redemption rather than theatre, it should do more than merely “allow” Geelong; it should prefer them. The Cats have a documented knack for turning the discarded into the functional - even the exceptional (see: Stengle, delisted to All-Australian) - because they pair duty of care with duty of consequence.

This is not absolution. It is probation with a football attached. Let Geelong set the terms: education, reporting, zero-tolerance tripwires. Which is why the mooted AFL-funded additional rookie spot could prove to be the perfect containment vessel - a sealed crucible where Thomas' progress is measured, not presumed, and where the steady hand of Andrew Mackie rests on the kill-switch.

You mean like how Bailey behaved impeccably around a woman reporter this year when he thought it was just him and her there? And how the Cats were nothing to see here about it?

Nah, even if can stay out of trouble, he's way too behind the pace of the AFL. Even lower levels he would struggle at.

Plus he's too old for any kind of reannaissance.

I agree if he were White, no chance. But, he's an incredibly gifted person, it would not surprise me to see him with 15 + 1 straight from the off.

Two clubs briefly interacted him last time.

St Kilda boss had a lunch with him.
Brad Scott said everybody deserves a second chance in an interview.

Both clubs had massive backlash from their members.

No club is going anywhere near him.

Yep.

Good on him if he manages to turn things around off the field. Think everyone would love to see that.

His days as an AFL footballer are done.

Oh you know, he'll help sell mates cars in the dead of night to mysterious residents of country Victorian towns.
Or relocate to Mexico and disappear in Guadalajara. Maybe visit Vega Baja in Puerto Rico on occassion

Gonna buck the trend here, he’s getting picked up. He’s an elite level talent that’s proven in a cut throat industry and is still only 25 years old.

A club will find a way to manage the PR side of things and will get him in. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but when you are looking for any edge against the competition a club will make a move in this space.
