He needs the confidence that comes with knowing that he belongs in this side at this level, currently the highest in the AFL.

I hope having just earnt a premiership medallion abeit as the sub, will go a long way to resolving this matter.

Once that comes and he starts choosing the first correct option and not panicking when he can see the perfect option, then he'll be fine addition to this team.

My personal belief is that he should be given a bit of a run in the midfield rotation as he played there as a junior and Clarko likes to run as many players through the middle as possible. It would give him another valuable string to his bow.

Apart from a much better taste in colours, the young man doesn't look to have changed very much.

Still got that shit eating grin. :p

He has grown on me.

He basically is a Guerra clone. Kicks well, just as tough.

He has something that Guerra didn't have though, can't put my finger on it. Wether it to be extra endurance or something similar, he seems to always be involved in the contests.

has an awesome leap - can really help out if needed as 3rd man up against talls.

I think he has it in him to become one of the best Back Pocket's in the competition.

Great attack on the ball (fearless), strong for someone of his size, great kick, quick, can fly and is willing to take the game on.

As someone else has stated, he's like a Guerra clone - but with pace.

He has played in a premiership and had a decent crack when he came on, admittedly with no pressure

He is a decent defender, he doesn't mind the rough stuff and he delivers well

Clean up his decision making and he is a really well rounded player

I'm a super big fan. Confident that he will be in the best 18 next year. Just goes to show how amazing the Hawks depth is.

Indeed, was watching Litherland's at the PCM "How could I forget about this bloke? How will he break into the team with all this depth we have?". I know they're not the same type of player but both Duryea and Litherland could be fighting for a spot in the team. Good problem to have though.

At this stage the answer is yes.
The biggest factor for him and a few other borderline 22 players is their effort if he keep it up like he did in the finals then he is best 22.
Drop offs from guys like him or Sucking, Poppy, Spanger etc and in comes a Simpkin, Anderson, Litherland.
Really this should apply to anyone in our team but in reality the stars get a little more leeway and so they should.
As harsh as it may sound that competition and depth is what is keep the Hawks a very good side and hopefully does into the future.

Yeah I'd like to see him become a little more consistent and a little more damaging as a defender. Needs to really punish the opposition when he has the ball in his hands.

Thought he made the most of his opportunities when he came on as sub though.

Could he play midfield next year with O'Rourke taking his spot in the back line.

O'Rourke would be suited to a role off half back, similar to Suckling or Birchall. While Duryea has speed and the kicking skills to also develop into this role, I feel he has better defensive abilities than these three and is therefore better suited to a back pocket role. I think this difference will work well for him, as though it might not be 'sexy', it does set him apart.

Is it just me or is this highlights package very impressive?

Having watched about half our H & A games replayed on foxtel since the GF, I was pleasantly surprised at how good Duryeas season actually was. Very constructive footballer. Got given some pretty decent defensive jobs too and definately held his own. He seemed to settle down a bit this season and play his role more rather than feeling as though he needed to be the kicker which he was at box hill.

He is very versatile and agree with others he could go through the midfield in 2015. Likes a goal too which is very handy.

His cameo in the GF was excellent - you could tell he was very focussed.

You could tell that he was ABSOLUTELY DESPERATE to get out there and do something on the big stage. This is a wonderful sign of you ask me. So many footballers are talented but apathetic. Names Lewis Jetta and Kurt Tippet spring to mind as good comparisons. All the talent in the work gets you nowhere without the hunger. Duryea has the hunger and enough talent that when combined he becomes a very good player. Wonderful pick up at number 66 in the draft!

One thing about Duryea's game that's good is his work in 1:1 marking contests. Sure he can be exposed for pace at times, but the defense aspects of his game are very underrated.

That bump on Kane Mitchell in Round 14 was a beauty.

I absolutely loved this last couple of games of the year. He really lifted when the heat was on in finals. He's always been a good kick, but he has the ability to be an absolutely elite kick, and I'd like to see him go to that next level with his boot next season.
