If the whole squad is fit and in form coming into round 1 next year, what would your line up be?

Mine would be;

Grover Haddrill Thornton
Dodd Mcpharlane Mundy
Crowley M Carr Peake
Black Pavlich Haselby
Farmer Murphy Longmuir

Sandilands J Carr Schammer

Bell Headland Parker Cook

Parker has to be in the 18. Headland doesn't deserve to be in the 22 but will be. His effort last night- 11 possessions, 5 frees against and no tackles- was woeful after missing a couple of games. Either Walker or Hayden need to be in the side to play on the oppositions small forward.

B- Parker Hadrill Mundy
HB- M. Carr Polak Hayden
C- Dodd J Carr Black
HF- Peake Pavlich Hasleby
F- Murphy McPharlin Farmer
R- Sandilands Bell Schammer
Int- Cook Grover Crowley Longmuir
Emergency- Thornton.

Very hard to narrow it down to 22. With Polak, Parker and Hadrill covering the 3 talls I couldn't fit Thornton in the 22. It's a big year for Polak in 2006 (assuming he stays at the club). With Hadrill to return and the emergence of Mundy there is probably only room for one of Polak, Thornton, Johnson and Warren in the side. Definately a good problem to have, and with so many quality players on the list finishing tenth is definately unacceptable.

Parker would play on the oposition small forward in my side.
You make a good point about the tall defenders, interesting that CC says we need another one on the list and this will be one of the focuses during trading and drafting??

Agree with you also on Headland, perhaps Hayden could be given more time and coaching to become a goal kicking midfielder, maybe Browne? otherwise unfortunately I can't see an option but to play Des.

Peake and Crowley are both good around goals and could be used in that role. The great thing about Crowley is that he can be given a tagging role aswell, which I don't think Des would be able to do.

The problem with our tall defenders is that none of them are suited to the giant forwards like Richo, Jonathon Brown and Hall. If we play Hadrill on them he can struggle for height and any other option will be out muscled. Jonathon Hay would have been a handy pick up if we had been able to get him cheap but his last 6 or 7 weeks have been very good and his price would have increased significantly.

I can't understand the need for another tall backman either. Polak, Warren and Johnson can play on the really Big Ugly Ones. They are still developing, but they seem to have the right shape about them. Also with Murphy, he should be fitting into the team next year, and if MacPharlin is going to hold down a forward line spot then Murphy can be looked at for down back.

Up forward we have a potentiallly lethal forward line. Sandilands stepping up in the ruck allowa Longmuir to play up there as a third tall, Murphy isdue to emerge, and there is still Campbell (who was resigned so must have some of the skill set).Lots of talls alongside the Pav and MacPharlin.

Hopefully this settles where Polak is going to play, and hopefully this means we'll get more out of him.

It's the midfield that has the question marks. Speed. Not sure who's available if trading is the option. If we are trading then Polak and Medhurst seem to be the currency. Happy for them to stay on the list. They do seem to be coverable though; Polak by the talls mentioned, and Medhurst potentially by Peake or Crowley or Browne or perhaps Hayden.

The off-season question for me is "What quick midfielder(s) is available?" Needs to be quality or develop them through the draft. And if there is soemone who wants to be part of our future, and what is the price tag in trade terms; Polak for Joel Corey? I also like the look of Kane Tenace from the Cats. Bulldogs also need KPP so they may have someone to do the job.

We have seen over the last 4 seasons that Longmuir isn't a forward. He kicks as many goals drifting forward from the ruck as he does when he plays most of the game as a forward. We need more pace in the centre square so we should rotate our established midfielders through a HFF. With Murphy being good on the lead and McPharlin good in the goalsquare the following forward line would be very dangerous-

HF- Peake Pavlich Hasleby/Bell/J Carr
FF- Farmer McPharlin Murphy.

I still think Longmuir is best moved to the forward line when Sandilands is rucking. And as a 3rd tall he is fine. In the past he has been the main man in the forward line.

Reading this thread makes me excited about next year :)

.. just like I was excited about this year, and the year before.

My main hopes for next season is to get a good decent year out of Hayden (massive fan of his when he was in form), get a defender in the backline that can really stop a power forward consistently (be that haddrill with help, polak stepping up, mcpharlin going back again - not that I want that - or bringing someone in) and see a bit more pace in our game (hayden? browne, continue the emergence of peake and crowley). Wouldn't mind seeing what Dunn can do again as well.

Listening to CC's interview today he gave at Perth airport he doesnt expect much change to our player group. Delist & redraft. Dunno about about the trade period.

Whichever way you look at the year we have a bloody good team now. Next year the main group should be more settled than this year.

I'd like Spud to get FF and elvis to go back. Get Gilmore on a f/flank and put Mundy into the midfield.

Get some muscle into Johnsons shoulders and chest give him more ruck work and have jlo playing lose across half back.

Crowley, Dodd and Peake should keep doing what they are doing.

I like the basics of game plan but as mentioned in another thread the plan breaks down if we miss targets while everone is peeling off.
I notice a few teams have introduced some Union type rolling scrums were the ball hits the ground in a tackle and everybody pushes away from the ball while some one comes through gets a clear possession.

We have to do some catch up with that play.

I would certainly go through our assistant coach's performances.

What did you think of his comments at the airport dugrene? It sounded like he thinks the draft is a bit of a chore and a waste of time. We've seen this season how important youth is and hopefully we retain our draft picks. For those who missed it, I think he said- "Next years team will be very similar. We've got to draft 3 players, but we might redraft someone like we have in the past."

It happens I agree with what he said. But you wouldnt expect anything else from him. If he had of said 'we have to review the group and make some changes' then he may as well quit.

But also by him saying that, he is saying 'I believe we have got it right and this group of players is all I need'

The trade period will be very interesting. Considering what he said today.

Imo the only player we need is good fullback. If he trades for anything else then I'll be getting closer to the sack CC brigade.

But if he thinks the playing group is good and able to take us to the top (which I agree with) then Connolly is saying that he's no good. Either the problem is the players, the coach or both.

This year he failed in many ways. He also gets a pass in some ways.
He has his team. If he handles them correctly and gets thier value we should do well.

I can wait another year. It is going to stessful for everbody.

If the team fails it will be his fault and the people who want him sacked will be fit (with good reason) to explode. The likes of myself and others will picked off one by one no doubt and with justification.

Like ive said though he has his team, and his skills based game plan should work better next year.

You're entitled to your opinions and to be supportive and have faith in your team and the decisions they make. Prior to the hawthorn debacle I would have agreed with you.

I just think that the fact that we are so up and down is because he has lost the players. When they are able to get themselves up we perform but that Connolly isn't motivating the team and we will continue to fluctuate under such a soft coach. If it wasn't for his relationship with Schwab it wouldn't be such a concern because we would know that a poor start to next season would see CC out the door. But Schwab is only going to sack Connolly if he has no other option and my greatest concern is that a large proportion of the players will realise they are going no where at Fremantle and leave.

well honestly i wouldnt bother lining up...Freo are hopeless, should stay in the wafl becuase they are hopeless....dont bother, stop wasting peoples time and money freo are a joke!!

hate to say it... but i agree!.. they have been a joke... untill they prove something i wont think otherwise!
