Re: RD 2 Side

I didn't like the other thread either.

Can I just ask -are those named as emergencies definitely the emergencies? i.e. does there have to be an injury for one of them to play, or can we swap them around up to some point of time.

Maybe our expectations are too high, but then you see a Bryce Gibbs running through the middle and hit up a target 50 meters away in their forward line, and you have to ask the question, why are we still playing BJ and O'bree. Can we not find better players or play someone with a bigger upside then those two. They have been in the system for way too long to have such a terrible disposal and still be picked in a sides best 22.

Because 1. we can't pick Gibbs 2. O'Bree is still performing based on last weeks game (which is the only game you can really base anything off). If we were trying to tank perhaps.

I thought BJ would have been dropped. Was a little surprised to his disposal efficiency. Thought it would have been less.

Happy to give him another crack. He was one of the few still gut running near the end of the game, when many were jogging on the spot.

You can't go too young our we'll run out of gas.

Toovey-I'm still not quite sure what he brings to the team. He does apply some defensive pressure but surely we have more skilled players that can apply that pressure.

Anyhow they are in the 22, so I hope they kick a.

Pretty unhappy with the selcections.
Forgeting who should be out, cough, cough, BJ, cox, cough cough,
Beams should be in as should Sidebottom.
My patience is running out with MM.

Disappointed that Beams isn't in.

I think we really need to belt Melbourne if we're going to regain our confidence, and most of all, show our rivals that we mean business and are a genuine top 4 side.

A win by less than 30 points to me is a failure, and a loss would be a catastrophe.

Jonno is a good 100+ player out of form, to drop him now would not help the team at all, give him 3-4 games at least. Beamer has shown a bit at QAFL and NAB Cup level and has plenty of time to make the next step. Ruck stocks have gone from bad to shite if Brown is preferred to Bryan/Wood. Heater is a no brainer and we just couldn't fit Dick, Cox and Sack in the same side.

Anyone have any ideas why Dick was elevated to the seniors? Could this mean more time for Davis and Thomas in the midfield?

When i see Gibbs i see this:

Doesnt really add to the debate, but its funny

Here's something for you guys to ponder:

I think that when a coach is worried about his job security, they tend to take the "safe" options, such as play the older more proven players like your Cheesie O'Bree and BJ's. Sheedy did the same thing in his last year, trying to get himself into the finals (you guys probably need to make top 4 to judged as being successful this year). Beams and Sidebottom have huge upsides to them and I believe Sidebottom in particular could have an immediate effect in a time where skills are paramount.

Look for more gutless calls this year if the Pies are tettering on the cusp of finals. Malthouse - you've always played kids, don't go soft now. Melbourne would have been the perfect match to bring them in.

Finally, ****ing Finally, we have admitted that we have one AFL standard ruckman on our whole bloody list.

I say play Josh one out, especially when the opposition's no 1 ruck has played 1 game of senior footy.

Let's run Josh into the ground, so when he breaks down (and he will if he solo rucks for too long) we will have absolutely no rucks in our side, and all shit will finally hit the fan.

I've said all along that Lachlan Keefe will play a senior game this year, if not plenty, because after Josh we have Chris Bryan, who is the Jason Wild of ruckmen, who wouldnt play for most VFL sides, let alone AFL sides. And then we have Cameron Wood, who may one day develop into a league ruckmen (and pigs wil fly out of my arse), who at the moment has the physicallity and personal confidence on a football field that Elton John would have if he was wearing a black and whit jumper in front of 50k at the G.

Surely, in next years draft, we have to bite the bullet, and use our no 1 pick on a young ruckmen, because with Josh in his 10th year, and not getting any younger, soon we will have no ruckmen on our list. And then I dont care who our bloody coach is, we wont be even a chance of winning a flag.

Stoked to see Dick and Shaw back. L Brown sigh!!! But then again Wood and Bryan havn't exactly demanded their position so its a bit meh... Not cool that Beams was overlooked again coz his form really demands inclusion - Johnson really should make way with Shaws inclusion.

Wouldn't mind seeing Beams as a late inclusion for Leigh Brown. We're far too tall down back, that's for sure. The Melbourne smalls will kill us, and we'll struggle off half-back!

Fraser can just ruck on his own (with Cox / Cloke helping out if need be), Nate Brown can swing to FF, and we have an extra midfielder. Suddenly the team looks far more balanced and dangerous against a "small" team.

If we don't make a change, mark my words... Melbourne's smalls will carve us up. We just have to hope our midfield can smash theirs.

It's going to be a wet slippery day. I doubt their midfield will be as 'smooth' as some of the top 8 sides, and there's less chance they'll dominate.

Yeah, they'll take it up to us but I get the feeling our slightly older bodies will fare a lot better in a good old fashioned slog.

I mean their smalls up forward. A wet and slippery day will suit small forwards (same goes for Thomas, Didak, Dick, Medhurst and Davis). We have Nathan Brown, Presti and Maxwell as talls, plus Harry as a medium (who can play small) and Cox (isn't great defensively). Only Heath Shaw is really a small defender. Brown will probably take Miller, Presti will take a resting ruckman IF they choose to play one there... the rest will be smalls. It worries me a lot.

But in saying that, they're pretty tall down back too. Not sure how they'll match up on our smalls. That's why I want us to make a change (Brown for Beams). We can play Beams in the midfield for Davis, Nathan Brown forward for Leigh Brown, Marty Clarke back for Nathan Brown. Suddenly our forward line looks deadly(Davis, Dick, Didak, Medhurst, Thomas at times, plus Jack, Cloke and Brown), our backline looks far better suited to a small forward line, and we have the extra midfielder. If they drop a ruckman forward, we move Brown to CHB and move Thomas forward permanently.

Cox will ruck in the defence, Fraser will ruck in the middle, Brown will ruck in the forward 50.

Can's ruck....Can't ruck....AND....Can't ruck....CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Leigh Brown is probably a good call because like Bryan he can smash players but he's more versatile around the ground (still think seeing as though Wood's the only player at the club who cap tap it we should be giving him a chance tho).

Reid and Goldsack are no brainers, they were awful and we were too tall last week anyway. Disappointed Beams isn't in (or disappointed that Toovey is) but either way he and Sidebottom will get their chances before too long. I'd prefer them at the business end not burnt out with their better kicking and decision making than the two alternatives (The Owl Mark II and BJ) so maybe its a good thing we're taking our time. Shaw, well...he's Shaw....love the bloke..

AND to those saying "why arent we calling for davis and didak to be dropped, we're picking on easy targets, its one bad game..rarara..etc" maybe thats why --> cos its one bad game?? Davis and Didak play well every single week and deserve to not be on the chopping block after one shocker (Davis for one worked his guts out in any case). BJ and Toovey were bad on the weekend, are always bad (these days in BJ's case, any days in Toovey's case) and have poor skills and awareness/footy smarts so have no chance of ever not being bad. They should be questioned because there are better options sitting out and I'm not talking only about the two guys mentioned above. These two arent even in our best 26/27. That said, at least BJ's put in a huge preseason - maybe he deserves one more week to prove himself, years of service maybe we owe him that.. Toovey?? But yeh drop Dids and Leon :thumbsu:

BJ has had a very good pre-season and we must give him a couple of games to prove he can get back to the awesome form of '06. And it was good to see him stick his head over the ball on the weekend.

But what about Tooves. I'm not havin a crack at him, because its not his fault he is being selected. MM and the selectors must be, MUST be on drugs because this kid is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! End of story. Has got to be in the top 5 in the list of most uncoordinated, most untalented, most unnatural, completely *******ated footballers in the league at the moment.

I still can't believe he is being selected.. is this real or am i in a horrible, horrible nightmare where MM actually thinks playing ******s will get us somewhere??

Good changes some speed a good defender and a pinch hitter in the ruck who will play forward

Also would have these changes

Out Johnson Toovey
In Beams Cook (to run with Brock)

Happy with the ins.

Leigh Brown is a good choice and will remind both Bryan and Wood that they are not the only two rucks competing for a spot. What Brown lacks in ruck skill he will make up around the ground.
Rapt to see Dick straight back in to the seniors after a knee reco
Heater is obviously an automatic selection

Kind of happy with the outs

Bryan was poor last week
Goldsack was poor and has to make way for Shaw.
Reid was shocking but I personally would have liked to see him get a second chance. I'd rather we had dropped BJ.

Cant believe Johnson has got another run. Heres hoping he's a late omission and Beams gets a game instead.

I like the team balance of that side a bit better. L Brown as a ruck in part is just acknoweldging we don't have a second ruck and playing an around the ground big lug wing type player as a ruck.

The side is less top heavy Heath for Goldsack is a no brainer. Dick as a smaller foward in for Ried should address the fact that our side looked a bit top heavy on the weekend.

I probably would have preferred Johnson out for Beams but that's the way these things go. Gibbs can't be compared to O'Bree they are such different players one does all the hard things under the packs etc and lacks all the skills the other is a pure sheep dog with elite skills.

I guess the changes are fair enough. I'd posted in one of the Bryan v Wood threads that I thought Leigh Brown might play a few games in the ruck this year. We picked him up as much for ruck depth as KP depth I reckon. I'm just a little surpirsed that it has happened so early on. It will provide a kick to the teeth for Bryan and Wood and also provide Keeffe with a bit more motivation.

The way MM has spoken about Dick with such enthusiasm (hahaha sorry could not help) I'm not surprised to see him included so early on. With Davis and Thomas spending more time in the midfield we needed someone to come in to go forward and I probably thought Beams or McCarthy would come in first but Dick gets the nod.

As others have mentioned Heater for the Sack was a no brainer.

Johnson and Toovey would be on last warnings I would think. Toovey would be a fair match up for Matty Bate I'm thinking.

dissapointing goldy wasnt left in instead of toovey. toovey is the biggest sheepdog when hes not on his game.

browns for structure im guessing in terms of rocca not being in the team.

great to see shawy back.

A lot of kids id rather see than johnson, wellingham mccarthy beams and sidebottom.

malthouse seems so stubborn sometimes with his coachinge

anything less than a 50 point win is a let down, they need to lift and punish the dees for the game last week

^

I'd be happy with just a win, because right now I'm having doubts! We've lined up too tall, the Dees lift for us, we looked flat last week, wet weather will mean low scoring...

If we lose, we could very well be 0-4 going into ANZAC day (with games against Geelong and Brisbane at the Gabba?). This is a must win game, already... in only round 2.

We really need Didak and Davis to lift, this will be their sort of game. We need you boys! GO THE PIES!

I don't think you'll see Cook for a while.....
