Roast Team Selection

You nailed it with this post, esti.

I get the feeling that the bloke that brought on quality youth was Chris Scott.

Look at the way Menzel, Christensen, Duncan etc played last night. They all looked like elite footballers.
There isn't really a difference. Scott has bled them in like Harvey has with ours, they have stuck and ours haven't. Mellington may play with aggression, but there was nothing there to suggest he will be a good player or anything like that. Far too early.

Mellington is at the same stage as Clarke was, alot of people on this board obviously do not rate our kids.
Mellington showed more than enough this year to suggest he has the game to be a very good forward.
Clarke, Mz, Mellington, Griffen, Lower, were some of our highlights.

That's not entirely true. In his first season he put far too much faith in proven old hacks and they predictably let him down. It was only once he turned to fresh youth without the baggage that we started to reap the rewards.

That's not entirely true either Esti. In his first season he put far too much faith in proven old hacks and they predictably let him down. It was only once he realised that his job was on the line and that playing the kids would buy him time that he went to youth.

Whatever you say, Brades. Whatever you say.

That's probably pretty accurate. Disappointing he didn't learn from it

Harvey is far too conservative and seems more interested in selecting players based on reputation than current form. And we've seen the same mindset with his positional selections all season - every move seems to be made with damage control in mind rather than taking a risk and attacking the opposition.

:thumbsu:

It's funny because the main shining lights (Clark, Mz, Silvagni) have benefited from being given important roles.

Maybe Harvey realises the majority of our midfield reserves are hacks.

Mzungu echoed the thoughts of coach Mark Harvey, refusing to use their mounting injury toll as an excuse for their poor performances in the latter part of the season.

 It was obvious in the North Melbourne game that the constant whinging from Harvey had got inside the players heads.
