1. Tarrant was never going to be a FF so 2 goals a game on average is asking way too much from a HFF.
2. He was injured and had surgery in the pre-season.
3. His defensive pressure has easily been out best.

I seriously think he has done what most people expected of him.

He's a big name player, on a big contract. I had high expectations. He's been an All Australian before, I don't expect him to be in there every year but he'll have to be in the mix before I consider him to have had a really good year.

Headland, Solomon and Tarrant have spent most of the season at half forward. I'd say Headland and Solomon have had much better seasons.

I'd say all 3 have been in our top 8 players, hence our forward line has looked good

How many did you pencil in during the preason as a good return for Tarrant Dom?

Most, including myself, suggested that a tally of 35-40 would be a good result if it meant that he freed up Pav to kick 70 odd, and created enough crumbs to give Farmer his usual 40-50.

Apart from Farmer letting down his side of the bargain, things have gone pretty much as well as we hoped up forward.

If Tarrant had of kicked 60 this year, it would have meant that we either had won a shipload of ball in the midfield, or were looking for Tarrant too much and ignoring Pav to his detriment. Neither happened. Tarrant worked hard, and he worked well as a the secondary target we recruited him to be.

Tarrant has kept up his side of bargain as far as I'm concerned.

You're right, the consensus was that he'd kick 35-40. I think a lot of people set the bar low to avoid disappointment, 2 goals a game was realistic IMO.

Of his 32 goals I'd say less than 20 would have come from marks, a forward who is so quick on the lead should be kicking more than a goal a game from set shots.

Our forward line isn't a concern going forward, but surely 32 goals in 20 games is disappointing? Tarrant was brought in as the missing piece to bring us a flag. He had to either be a big contributor in September or kick a lot of goals. I would have considered 45 goals with a couple of bags of 4 or 5 a good return on our investment. :

His career average is 1.7 goals a game, so expecting him to better that in his first year with a club, and following pre-season operations to his calves and no pre-season, may be expecting just a little too much. Averaging 1.6 goals a game however, especially given that he contributes much more than many of our other forwards in other areas of the game, is a very good return on year 1.

EDIT; just checked footywire and Tarrant has played 19 games, so is all but spot on his career average for goals kicked per game.

ryan murphy 2006 22 goals 8 behinds
chris tarrant 2007 32 goals 26 behinds ,god knows how many out of bounds on the full,
dont get me wrong i love the way taz attacks and wins the ball but he cant kick for shit, play him up the ground a bit further and give murph enough game time to get his form up,

Tarrant's 1.6 goals a game looks a lot better than Murphy's .5 a game. He is not accurate, and is better played in a situation where he is not the main man shooting for goal, but he is a genuine threat. You can tell by the quality of the player the opposition puts on them. Tarrant gets the second best defender. Murphy gets some guy who can leave him to double team Pavlich.

Wasn't Tarrant brought in mainly to help out Pav. I mean that was the whole point right? Given that Pavlich is having the best season of his career I would consider the addition of Tarrant a success. Especially when you also consider our second most dangerous forward from 2006 (Farmer) hasn't played for the majority of the year.

All Tarrant's stats this season are almost identical to 2006-

Whether we overpaid is irrelevant, we got exactly what we traded for.

For those who've forgotten he also had surgery at the start of the year, and almost no pre-season training. Anyone expecting him to put up his 2003 numbers was only setting themselves up for dissapointment.

The difference is that he gets the second best defender now. Last year the likes of Scarlett, Glass and Fletcher would have gone to Tarrant. Very few clubs have 2 standout tall defenders, so his numbers should be up.

His lack of pre-season would have had an impact, but he has looked to be moving well all season. With a full pre-season will everyone's expectations be greater next year?

I forgot that he missed a game, the Darwin incident feels like 6 months ago. It's been a long season. :(

I would have thought the main reason for bringing him in was to help us win games of footy. Can't see Brisbane chasing a big name forward this year to help Jonathon Brown.

Most teams have 2 standout defenders, and Rocca would have had his share of the numero uno.

This year he is playing far less at FF, which would keep his numbers lower. If Murphy had done his job we wouldn't be having this discusion.

OUT: Macca Cook Thornton
IN: Foster Schammer Ibottson

I would like to see Haddrill play has been in good form by his standards
It can release Mcpharlin into the foward line. Haddrill better defender than Thornton. Can do the job on Neitz.

Tarrent Vs Murphy.

Murphy played a handful of games(9 I think) last year to kick 22-8 his tally could of been a lot more if they had given him more game time.
Compare it with Tarrents games (20 ?) for 32-26. plus another 12? out of bounds on the full at least. His numbers could of well been 50-20 had he kicked straight.
Both a good players a need to be in the team. someone posted that Murphy's oppenent leaves him to double team Pav or Taz. Question, if Murphy is free then why do our stupid players pass to a 2 on 1 rather than pass it to a free teammate. If no one passes Murphy the ball how do you expect him to kick goals or rack up any stats.

I am still very disappointed that we are not playing Brock O'Brien or some of the other young guns for this match.
We really need to give them a run even if it is only for a short while.

Give it a rest you imbecile, its starting to piss everyone off now. Once O'Brien has proved that he is a good WAFL player, not just your everyday run of the mill WAFL player he will get a game. He has done nothing to even warrant his name being mentioned.
