Its not as if we are gonna miss his speed, look at the Saints mid...

And for those who are doubting Reid on the emergencies, he has hit the gym and looks massive!!!!!!

His set up of two goals, kicked 1 himself and hard running which resulted in goals dont give him any credits at all?

The goal he kicked was in the second. I said his FIRST half was diabolical, and it was.

His did some nice things in the second half, but he also did some bad things.

Im not saying he didnt play a shitful first half but he made up for it in the second and his speed and hard running will be difficult to replace

No, he didn't make up for it. Overall, he's been terrible for the last two weeks, and that's why it's him who's been omitted and not one of the young players.

Mick likes to state that he picks his sides on horses for courses. If that were true Rhys would be playing. Had 30+ possies first time they played this year didn't he. turnovers aside His pace would be nice against a slow st kilda side, maybe mick is looking to the future.

Rhyce can no longer be trusted when the pressure is at it's highest. His poor kicking inside the 50m where his depth of kicking is always short, and he never kicks it to a preferred side just hurts. His shocking judgement in some one on ones last week could have cost us a final. And when he gets dragged back deep the high ball = goal for them.

This is a no brainer selection.

Ben Reid is on the emergency list, what the?

And in terms of Presti, if you look forward, he is our best match up for Franklin, so my guess is they'll play him with that match up in mind. Why not. Although Wakes really owns Kosi, so I hope that doesn't backfire. Brown to Kosi, Presti to Riewoldt. O'Brien to Milne. Important match ups right there.

i would more think maxwell to riewoldt perhaps. as for wakes and presti situation, who cares about frnaklin we need to win this week. presti is under an injury cloud and wakes has the wood over kosi so why not play him? even if presti is 100% id still rather see wakes, he is a much better player then presti.

I would have dropped Prestigiacomo for Wakelin, Presti was slow and ordinary last week, I wouldv'e went with Wakes last week as well. I don't like having Cook in there, happy with McCarthy and Dawes however. Not overly sad to see R. Shaw out.

Cook for Didak and R. Shaw for H. Shaw would be so nice right now. :(

You already effectively have R Shaw for H Shaw, the only problem is neither are in the selected 22.

2 things i want to add. Firstly, presti was actually pretty good last week. Was the human glove of old and if he's fit i want him playing no matter how badly i feel for wakes. Secondly, i agree with those that say that we may have seen shaw's last game. If he is dropped for this game then surely mick can't see him in his a-plan and he will be shopped around this trading season. Go pies

How can we ignore the turnovers?
Rhys's turnovers were the reason we weren't absolutely smashing them in the first quarter on the scoreboard (granted the umpires didn't help but thats a variable you cant control, we can control how many times we turn it over by not picking someone who does it so often).

The second half of the first quarter was probably the agriest I've ever been at the coach that a Collingwood player was on the field and not on the pine..

For that matter its not just the turnovers that cost us its the fumbles/putting players under pressure. Twice in the game he put Goldy under massive pressure becasue he couldnt hold it/pick it up cleanly and both incidents resulted in goals. The one in the third (im pretty sure it was Goldy) had me furious. I dont think he's the worst player in the AFL but he has a problem that cant be tolerated, he hurts us too much.

Also, shattered Wakes isn't in, love the bloke.. Nervous as anything about Cloke too with Reid in the emergencies.

Terrible mistake dropping Shaw, now I'm wondering if the selectors are much smarter than some of the dumbies around here.

Hopefully won't cost us this game but might cost us vs Hawthorn. He thomas and Leon were the main line breaking runners and sparks, but especially him and Thomas. First games back for a while, have to expect some cobwebs but he was v important in the last half.

You all bitch on about turn-overs etc but you don't understand that finals are very emotional and all about intensity, lightning fast players who take the game on really fire up the team and lift the intensity as Shaw did last week. And the last half is obviously the most important.
cook is developing quite well and has been serviceable but that doesn't compare with Shaw's effect. Looks liek Cook is there as a tagger but Shaw's speed and finals experience would surely make him at least as good a tagger as Cook right now anyway.

You don't understand something that the match committee and coaching group do - Rhyce Shaw can not be trusted in finals

Does anyone else suspect that Presti has been picked against the Saints with an eye towards Hawthorn (if we win)?

I personally suspect that Presti has been ear marked for Buddy if we make it to the prelim.

Also, I think presti may line up on Riewodlt tomorrow.

There is as much chance of Rhyce's absence costing us the game as his presence would be of us winning the game.

He is not a matchwinner by any means - he is a role player.

He made many errors last week, not just turnovers, but stupid free kicks from undisciplined tackling and fumbles - the last of which gifted Stevens his 6th goal.

Cook on the other hand was good on the whole, he made errors too but they were minor compared to Shaws.

As other posters have suggested, it might well be the case that Rhyce has played his last game but MM sees a future for Cook. In that case the selection makes perfect sense.

Very interesting emergencies indeed.

I can actually see all 3 playing. Malthouse will definately not take unfit players into a final.

I can see R Shaw in for Burns. Reid in for Cloke and Wakelin in for Presti. If Reid got a go I would be very excited. It would be a fantastic effort to get back from a broken foot to play finals footy.

I dont think Cloke will miss. Walsh confirmed that he had a low grade virus (and quashed the glandular fever rumours) and said that the only reason he didn't train through the week was so that he did not infect the other players. He apparently is better and will train today.

I think Trav has been sick rather than injured.

Does anyone know if he has trained at all this week?

Yes apparently someone rang Sen and said that he was on the plane on the way back from the Adelaide game. This chap was sitting with the players and said that Cloke had some virus and was pacing up and down the isles.
So no he has not trained.I suppose mm didn't want cloke around the other players if he is a little sick, same with didak,he's got the flu too according to mm.This probably explains why clokey didn't have much of an impact in the Adelaide game.
He is suppose to train today (friday), but if he is still not over the flu,he may miss the saints game and Reid may come in as his replacement.

I reckon Wakelin will come in for Presti last minute change.
Without cloke we could be in trouble, i doubt whether Reid can hold down CHF,maybe DAWES will hold down CHF if cloke is out.Reid to the pocket.
Shite we could be in trouble, but gee the kids are getting great experience.

As always with Presti, I think he'll play deep. So if Reiwoldt lines up between FF/CHF as he often does, I reckon Presti will go to him. If he plays further out, Brown/Harry. Ditto for Franklin/Roughead in the Prelim, if make it. He'll take whoever plays deeper.

What in do you base that on?

I bet you Burns plays with a niggle, as did Buckley at the very least last year and in 2006. Didak had a knee op after the 2006 final. Molloy in 2002 was a shocker of a decision. May even have cost us a flag.
