Needs a rocket IMO. Our biggest weapon (apart from Danger - we'd be 0-3 without that guy).

Sympomatic of our teams attitude in general. Looks disinterested, giving away silly free kicks, trying to outbody opponents first instead of launching at the footy, really wasting quality opportunities...

He's kicked 8 goals so far - I dont think it's too much to say thats a little under par for him, especially given the opposition.

If he can get off the chain and kick a big bag - like everyone keeps predicting each week - it will give our whole team a lift. He's at his absolute ruthless best when he's hungry. Too me, it looks like he's believing his hype a bit, but he's not the only one. We all know he's a star, but he needs to lead by example. Stands out more because how good we all know he is.

I dont subscribe to the whole "we miss Tippett" thing because Josh Jenkins has been busting his arse. I'd go so far to say he's giving more than Tex at the moment, plus he has to ruck.

I/we all love Tex. But footy show mentions, mullet growing comps and media love dont get us 4 points. Time to rip the comp in half again, starting this week.

The following people need a rocket.

-anyone who is surprised when a forward who spends half the night in the defensive half of the ground only kicks three goals
-anyone who is surprised that a forward becomes impotent when he hits almost every contest moments after sprinting 100metres from the defensive end of the ground
-anyone who thinks Walker didn't work his ass off last night
-anyone who thinks Walker struts too much, is too arrogant, looks too aloof, or would prefer he exhibit more honest, try-hard, Michael Doughty, AFC-like qualities

Another bullshit thread.

Good job.
i get what he is saying

tex's biggest problem at the moment is that he is trying to be too cute, and it looks like he's trying to win free kicks instead of the footy

It's totally perception.

The ball is not getting down to him and when it does, it's getting delivered like a load of shit.

If he's acting cute, it's because he has 2 or 3 defender hanging off him and he's trying to dispose of the ball.

How about we place the blame on the real people, the midfield and half forward line who can not kick.

fair call

He's not playing like he was last year.

A bit too cute, trying to get cheap goals over the back and not leading hard enough. Saying that, he's busting his arse running around trying to get the footy - so he's not being lazy.

He started doing it in the pre-season (Sando said they'd addressed it, he thought Walker was wrestling too much and needed to get back on his bike), needs to be sorted.

Last night wasn't a great night for him, he was too cute and too worried about the Umpires (with some justification, he was getting molested all night).

It doesn't help that when he does get clear on a lead the pass consistently is over his head or doesn't reach him.

That said, he won't be a truly dominant forward until he reliably takes contested marks. He gets his hands to a lot only to spill them with the slightest contact from a defender.

He's not kicking straight - he's getting enough of it in the right spots.

Missed a sitter from 10 m out on the angle. 12 point turnaround, as port kicked one on the rebound immediately after.
Missed while running into an open goal after playing on from the free to Johncock. That killed us. Port kicked the next 6 or something.

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda had 5. Same last week as well.

Whoever was coaching Tippett for all those years has obviously turned their attention to Tex.

While agreeing that a large part of the blame should lie with our midfield and HF line, I don't think Tex can justifiably escape without criticism either.

Yes, he was being held, but he spent a whole lot of time wrestling with his opponent instead of leading for the ball. The timing of his leads was nowhere near as good as we've seen from him in the past. Then there's going up one handed and all the usual traits.

Maybe, as Pete asserts, some of that can be attributed to the fact that he's spending a lot of time further up the ground and doesn't have the energy left to lead properly. Maybe.. All I know is that he's not playing anywhere near as well as he did in 2013 and I don't blame the opposition for his relative lack of output.

Hold up. I'm not questioning his work rate. The situations he finds himself in often require him to work very hard and he puts in, chases hard etc.

Its the ruthlessness in his game thats appears to be lacking. Fair enough if we're not playing a style to be able to utilise him fully, I get that, but the playing for frees, and shanking shots a goal of the sock show to me he's not fully switched on. He's almost trying too hard. That natural flair for kicking goals and setting up play is missing when he gets his hands on it.

All I was trying to suggest was maybe Sando needs to fire him up a bit. Sure his chances have been more limited so far in 2013, but he's wasting chances more than usual. He doesnt have that angry edge to him at the moment.

He's far from our biggest concern, but I judge him harsher because of how important he is. Glad to see a few others tend to agree. Not such a bullsh-t thread after all?

hahaha..

you took the words right outa my mouth.. it musta been whilst you were.. well umm hanging out with JP Sauce.

IMO Tex mainly just needs to get a bit of the agro and killer instinct that he had last year back. Needs to stop doing the 'team thing' and passing off when he has the ball 55-60 out and turning it over when he'd nail it himself 90% of the time.

Definitely could be more selfish and intent on dominating. Won't dispute that.
Let's hope that's what bicks is telling him too

His two horrible shanks were the real killers for me, thought he was solid apart from that. Whoever is telling him to drift so far down the ground to help out needs their head read. If he's having to do that then perhaps there's an issue with who we're selecting in our midfield, hey Sando?

Jenkins is a decent target but he's that much more dangerous if Walker is drawing a defender or two in the forwardline as well.

It's amazing being at the games and seeing up close (I was at the fence by the goals) how much the umpires are letting his defender get away with. I think at one contest he had both his arms being held back and they just let it go.

He played well. If he didn't spray a couple of kicks he would have 5 and this thread wouldn't exist. I'll tell you wouldn't help: a rocket.

The OP is a total knee jerk and the antithesis of what's needed.

It does seem his confidence is down. Has not been kicking the ball as well as 2012. Was absolutely shocking kicking the ball against Brisbane and missed two very easy goals in the Showdown (one of was an absolute dolly and had a huge impact on the game)....

I don't necessarily agree that he needs a rocket - but he needs to improve his game.

The frustrating thing on this board is we are all discussing the form drop off of our middle tier players - Porps/Vince/Mackay/Reilly when the most urgent and important thing we need to fix is to have our 3 best players - Walker, Danger, Sauce - getting back to a level where they win us games.

Everyone discusses our selection committee having a 'golden ticket' policy - when in fact it seems that this board has a 'golden ticket' policy towards discussing Danger's shortcomings. Has had a terrible start to 2013 apart from a 3 minute burst where he kicked two great goals.

If Sauce is dominating ruck contests, Walker kicking 4+ and Danger averaging more than 20 touches a game - our team has a completely different look to it and you will see an improvement in the middle of the road players like last year.
