Not that I have a problem with the Fletcher Christian role you have assumed this year - I'll help you toss him off ship and set him adrift with his mates in a leaky boat, and throw in his wake the zone defence strategy. Let's hope he does not then proves a skillful navigator of the tide of unpopular opinion like Bligh. When he's gone, we don't want him convincing others that he was wronged.

A Bounty analogy! What would be the Pitcairn Island equivalent? Carlton?

I haven't watched the Bucks message, as I'm having serious Buckley withdrawal, even (dare I say it) Bucks aversion ATM. But I'm still hoping we can turn it around and will probably still hope that - even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary - until about round 15. I am programmed to hope when it comes to the Pies. Its a survival mechanism, honed over many decades.

"man on man? You lot have been talking about a lack of pace and you want us to go head to head with faster and more skilful opponents?"

Zoning – a strategy devised for use on an NBA basketball court that is rectangular in shape and 94 by 50 feet (29 by 15 m). At any given time there are five players per side on this small playing area.

And yet, the zoning strategy has been copied in The Land DownUnder and applied to [drumroll please]…

An Aussie Rules footy field that is oval in shape, between 135m and 185m long and between 110m and 155m wide. And at any one time this huge surface area has only 18 players per side on this massive area.

But yet…

There are those who are puzzled as to why said zoning doesn’t work that well for our footy.

And he escapes without anyone saying thr Succession Plan might of Failed badly

The succession plan was made in 2009.

Unless folks are prepared to wind the clock all the way back to 2009, they can't say it failed.

The Swans have shown that a succession plan can work. Roos -> Longmire delivered them the 2012 Premiership.

I made that comment in regard to Ed and his responsibility for the current situation.
Interesting point, in general terms, Ed rarely is really placed under any sort of scrutiny (by Collingwood people) for his tenure in general. Yes, he's done many good things, conversely he can at times go over the top causing unintended consequences.
Overall, however, if our team wins games, all will be well again.

A poster on The Collingwood Blog refers to the "Churchillian speech by Nathe on Buck’s Brief."

Uh huh.

Same.

I clicked it open today, heard 30 seconds, turned it off. Complete aversion. Sick of talk, need to see some results.

I abandoned my belief in Buckley as coach at around 4pm last Saturday. If he can turn it around I will happily get back on the bandwagon. That is the nature of footy, coaches are judged on results, we are currently uncompetitive against teams that are themselves uncompetitive against quality teams. That is how far we have dropped in only three games. Alarm bells are ringing my friend.
I might just wait for another 3 years like I did with Malthouse before I get on the bandwagon, still sitting on the fence this year.

So you read the Robbo article but couldn't watch another two minutes of Buck's brief??? :drunk:

I am not having a go and I am the last person to swallow everything the Club dishes out but if I had to choose between Robbo and Bucks I know who
I would choose. I am sure Eddie uses Robbos stories as bed time stories also.

I read the headline and the first paragraph. Same/same.

Sharing does not equal endorsement.

Apologies.......you should read it if you want to have a laugh......comedy gold......he really should give up his day job! :p

We are going to lose all 5 games.

No, we won't. Because if we do Im gonna go a find Buckley personally and sack him on behalf of the club.

But I don have some faith left , not much but some, that the club will still get to 8-3 as we have in perivious years. It all starts this week.

If there was ever a must win/line in the sand game it's this week. We need to make this our elimination final the same way Melbourne makes their games against us their grand finals.

Another typical grubby piece of journalism from the chief of grubby journalism, Robbo. Eddie was actually voicing his confidence in the senior coach, but said if he had to make the call on Buckley's career, he wouldn't hesitate to make it.

We all know Robbo is a slug like, living breathing turd monster.

Nah man. We're done for the year.

After this weeks loss, the club's bottom line is going to take a MASSIVE hit as members and attendances drop off a cliff. Which is for the best. We as supporters need to send a message to the club because this is absolute bullshit currently.

For a massive club that likes to blow it's own horn when it comes to it's off field strength, we're a disgrace on field.

As often he case, media types like to create or look for drama, scandal, fighting etc
Robinson is just a horrible person, hence his advancement in his field.
But doubt anyone that matters cares what he says or does.
cant Polish a turd

Whatever you think of Buckley's speech, "Churchillian" is the last term that'd be used to describe it ...

... unless it was an attempt at sarcasm or irony.

Churchill was very uniting, his speeches were very uniting. He used lots of "we" pronouns in an inclusive manner (eg: he was talking to every Brit in his famous "We will fight them on the beaches ..." speech)

By contrast, Buckley uses a lot of "I" / "you" pronouns. Have a watch of his speech again and pay attention to the way he addresses you, the viewer. Pay attention to the way he talks about himself and the team and the club. Is he uniting or separating?

When he specifically uses terms "the club" and "us" (without qualifying them), is he implying that you are a part of that?

There is a point where he says "... and finally, if I had to put myself in your shoes, a Collingwood member and supporter right now, I'd be wondering if ...". He didn't need to express it that way. He is a Collingwood member and supporter. He is one of us (albeit in a privileged and responsible position). He is in our shoes!?!? Isn't he?

What was the purpose of this 'speech'? To unite the members and supporters behind the team and the coaching staff and administrators? He could have done a much better job of that.

I'm not knocking Buckley for this - it happens throughout the club starting from the very top.

For many years I've felt that the club have put up a big thick glass wall between themselves and their members / supporters.

The club have made itself exclusive not inclusive.

It kinda defeats the notion of what a 'club' is about, all the more so for a club that once prided itself on being the peoples' club.

It's not healthy, and it's going to have to be fixed at some stage if "Good Old Collingwood" is going to be "Forever".

On the first point: The poster woz indeed taking the Mick. Secondly, as a supporter of over sixty years, I woz less than amused several seasons ago, when the Cloke clan were squeezing CFC for pesos, and Buckley imperiously stated that anybody who criticized Cloke was "not one of us." Arrogant and incompetent - never a good combo.
