If people don't think we have changed the way we are playing since the Calton game then they are delusional.

Eddie said we needed to change and we have.....for the BETTER!

How many games have you seen live Mame if you don't mind me asking?

It could only be for the better.
I'll agree though the set up now looks much much better but our we have had several improvements
1) intent to tackle
2) Intent to defend
3) overall skill level
4) uncontested ball
5) kick outs

It is also good to have a more stable group. It is important to make absolutely sure that aside from injury those coming in are in exceptional form

I totally agree. Far easier to throw glib wisecracks than attempt an argument you know you can't win. Facts, unfortunately, are facts. Find me an example of any coach having even three consecutive years of debilitating injuries. Let alone 5 and calling it bad luck!!! But of course you won't, so play the man. Definitely the right option. I'm pretty sure no one has ever even suggested that Bucks has been successful in motivating the guys. Is that your contention?
I'm not going to stoop to the ad hominem stuff at this point, believe me, you don't want that.
I did give Buckley some credit for today, I rated his performance 4/5 on another site. Then I heard his presser and watched the game a third time. If you can tell me what he did to earn the kudos, and it's not imagination, I'd love to be able to say he's getting better, I did so in the early years, and kept my word never to criticise him mid-season, but he only ever let me down, and after 2013 he made it absolutely undeniable that he has no idea.

NOW Go listen to his PC, really listen, and give me your take on it.
I'll give it a miss.

Hmmm, well I like Red Bull, and I certainly like Wagner, though I'm more of a Chopin/Haydn guy, but I don't even know where there's any bedsits in Queensland, and I suspect my wife would find it a tad cramped. I promise you I have no desire to swap lives with anyone here! If you need to be personal (don't worry, I'm totally used to this approach from people who have no rational debate to offer). I have a ridiculously great life, I'm very well paid for a job I'd do for free and get to work from home (A lovely 3 bdrm house with pool 40 metres from the beach) with my amazing girl. This gives me leisure to indulge my passion for a silly game, and a club I've loved since I could form thoughts (best 24th birthday ever!). I write more for myself than anyone else, so the personal attacks are a kak!

Oh, and I don't type on a chair. :)

better late than never...;) Congrats! "Next stop, rocket science." :thumbsu:

I'm waiting to see how we go against the Dogs before feeling confident that our recent form is here to stay.

But regardless of that, we have been playing some outstanding footy, albeit mostly still in patches. Against Essendon, two quarters against West Coast, Brisbane and now this. When we are 'on' we are nearly unstoppable. I understand the criticism about not producing it for four quarters. But if you produce it for one or two quarters and play well enough to stay in front, I'll take that, at least for now.

I was dubious about Cox leading into the season, but he is fast becoming a real weapon. Talk about a footy fairy tale. Pies might just pick up a few American fans too.

As for Treloar, he has been a revelation to me. Sure, there are aspects of his game you can criticise - being more accurate when shooting for goal is one - but if you step back and look at the complete package. Wow. He is a real talent and already emerging as a leader at the club.

Fun Fact: 84 is the number of times Tom Hanks says "spoon" in Forrest Gump.

I hate that movie. Have tried to watch it 3 or 4 times and can never get to the end.

The only movie I have ever walked out of the Cinema.

My wife will never watch a Tom Hanks film after that......absolute shocker!

I thought I would post a quote from Bucks here I just read in the Herald Sun. I like it.

“In many ways the players have said to me we don’t want to hear injuries or youth (as excuses) and so, internally, we’re not talking about building, we’re not talking about what’s to come. We’re expecting performance now,” Buckley said..

Pendles had some good ones too...

Credit where credit is due.

The decision to play howe and adams down back has worked...as has playing white and cox over cloke.

I love our backline all of a sudden. Id have brown and williams in over maynard and frost...but otherwise it looks cohesive.

Its a big effort to settle the backline considering the injuries

No No No No No No!
The incredible number of injuries is NOT an excuse for Buckley! How can it be that he's been the only coach EVER to have 6 straight years of crippling injury lists and it's just "Bad Luck"! I can't find any example of this happening to any coach EVER for THREE straight years! Two, is very uncommon, and it didn't happen to Mick twice in a row ever. But FIVE in a row! And from year 1?! Every year of his tenure, without a single break!? And it hasn't been for parts of years, it's been ALL of EVERY season he's been coach!
He has been completely unable to instill confidence in the group, and this year was the worst example. Couldn’t kick, mark, tackle, handball. If he's finally managed to start learning how to do it, great! Fantastic! But how can you ignore 5 years of abject failure!? I'll be stoked if he's starting to learn some of the basics of coaching, but what were 2012, 13, 14, 15? Warm-ups? Does ANYONE here believe for a second that some assistant coach from Geelong would've been given FOUR years of ever-worse performances to get the hang of it? If you're being even half-honest you have to admit that such a person would've been watched very hard in the first 2 seasons and be dumped during or after the third!

Look at the precedents! Mark Neeld, Sanderson, Watters, and others have only been given 1-3 seasons to turn dud sides around, Dean Laidley took over from Pagan in '03 (who only missed finals in 1 year after 3 GFs and 2 flags!), His first 2 years were both 10th spot, and he was gone. Everyone said it, in '05 it was finals or the front door. They made 5th, but missing in 2006 put him back on his last chance, but lo! Finals again in '08 & '09 saved him... briefly.
Brad Scott took over a side which was 13th, and got them into the finals in 2 years.

It's now conceivable, because of this great turnaround not lasting, that he could drop us further again this season - AND keep his job!
Think about it. If we went down to Brizzy at the Gabba, the pressure on him would've doubled, 2 games later he's the lord god all-freakin-mighty!
We could STILL finish last in 2016, and we could still finish second.
If we keep winning, great! That's all I want, I don't care if Hermann Goering is coaching! But I very much doubt I can ever forget - whatever happens from here - the 4 unnecessary years in the wilderness. Maybe when he delivers 4 straight flags!

Contrary to your belief, just repeating the rhetoric around "5 years of abject failure" when it has been rebutted comprehensively here, does not make it more accurate or valid.
But it does build your post count if that is your objective..

Try watching Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man... what a pile of dogshit that movie is. About three hours too long.

There's been plenty to criticise this year with our coaching but you've got to give Bucks and the coaching group credit for the performance last Saturday. Not just the win, but the way we were structured and the choices made on some players, especially given we went in with a significantly less experienced team than the Cats.

Last year the first game against Geelong was the only time for the better part of the season that our structure collapsed (they had their huge run of consecutive goals and were constantly outnumbering us through flooding). In stark contrast this time we completely blocked their run and there was nowhere to go for the majority of the game for Geelong coming out of defence. When they managed to go past our midfield, the zone worked well as we took plenty of intercept possessions and when we had to rebound we played on quickly and managed to find space through taking risky kicks. The last two points are mostly due to Reid and Howe's strong intercept marking and great kicking which shows the benefit of the move of Howe down back).

The move to give Greenwood a tagging role on Selwood and leave Dangerfield without a tag was a winner, as was the loose match up of Treloar and Guthrie (put an attacking player on him to make him accountable the other way). Add to that the balance we seem to have found with the way we utilise Sidebottom (less forward, more back), Adams (start back, come as a +1 at stoppages when needed), Pendles (full time midfielder) and Crisp (more time in the centre) and we finally see how we can utilise our midfield strength .

What I like is that there is still clearly scope for improvement in the team: Varcoe was down and should go back to his form last year, players like Williams, Brown, Langdon/Goldsack and Cloke should come in at some point and will prove to be upgrades on the current team (at the expense of Maynard, Frost, Oxley, White if I had to predict it) and there's natural improvement to come for our more inexperienced players like Moore, De Goey, Smith, Crocker. Sadly players like Ramsay, Swan and Elliott would also improve our team but fingers crossed our crap run with injuries is over and they remain the only clear best 22 players to have substantial time off.

I dont understand the whole "Where is the Buckley haters now"

Really you are just reinforcing why the majority of fans were so disappointing with our start to the season. Most people on this board knew we were capable of playing good football like we did against Geelong and Brisbane even with a young list and what we were being served at the start of the year was putrid.

Does anyone else feel like some parts to this thread is too black and white?

We're all big fans, I get that. But because we don't have complete access to everything that happens at the club, there's a risk of trying to read too much into certain things (both pro and against bucks).

I love this Simpson episode about drawing conclusions

#anyexcuseforasimpsonreference

I agree the zone is still in play, but it is a much tighter zone, it was spread to far in the first 6 odd weeks so was easy to pick apart. Buckley has stated it has been tweaked. Also helps that the players have had a real crack the last couple of weeks. A zone defense takes full engagement from the whole side and concentration, something missing from the early part of the year.

Agree. We no longer see any loose Forwards as we did up to Lions Game
