It would be interesting to see how every player responds under a new coach.. you just don't really know until it's done.
No -you don't some improve, some drop back. The net effect is what is needed. YOu obviously place great store in the coaching appointment. I never have. Some pretty ordinary coaches are Premiership coaches. Jewell, Joyce, Walls, Jezza - they really were just in the right place at the right time. They have an effect at the margin in my opinion, that is all. That said, the time will be ripe for change at the end of the year if the current form line continues....because the club has to be seen to be doing something and I guarantee you will get your wish it will either be Clarko or Roos. My money is on Clarko. I'll back him until the day he leaves, unlike others

Wayne Carey pretty spot on in his little snippet in the HUN today.

Collingwood is only all about pressure.

Yet, pressure is not a game plan.
It's not a style.

So what the hell is our style?

There isn't one.
Because the only thing you hear from our players, coaches and then filtering down to our ill-informed supporters is the buzz words of "pressure, heat, tackles".

It's laughable, yet still makes me want to cry.

Pressure can only get you so far, Mayne was given a 4 year deal for pressure acts, that should have been the last straw.

ANy coaching appointment will have the same ratio. Due diligence. get the right coach. If its Clarko great...let's not assume it is. That's stupidity written with a capital COLLINGWOOD In any case if Clarko was coaching now we might scrape into the 8 that would be all.
There are people on here who think Fasolo is a good player. Fasolo would not get a game wit any legitimate finals contender.

Be interested to read your thoughts on Gus Borthwick as a replacement for Bucks.

This is an odd assumption. I understand that Bucks is (to put it mildly) on the nose, but the idea that any replacement will have the team firing better than him is highly questionable.

The Melbourne Football Club undoubtedly thought that they were on a winner when Mark Neeld replaced Dean Bailey. After all, how could it get any worse? Well things got worse, despite the fact that Neeld was appointed through a rigorous selection process and vetted by some of the most successful people in the game. They made that mistake a few times.

Collingwood is losing games of football, but the fact that we're not getting smashed should indicate to people that a number of things are going okay behind the scenes. Things could certainly get a lot worse before they get any better, and this is a not unrealistic prospect which we need to confront. Does this mean we should stick with the status quo? Nup. But our current predicament should not be blown out of proportion, and the way out of our predicament shouldn't be guided by the idea that someone, anyone, would be better than what we've got.
Beautifully written and masterfully thought out JB. I concur 100%. You absolutely nailed it. Only problem is that you are replying to Gimpy who won't understand any of it and will probably just answer with something about IGA and gerbils.

Point I took is that Melbourne finally started on the right path after getting a "tried and tested" coach. More than happy for us to bring Clarko across.

Anyone know the direct e-mail address for Gary Pert.

Nicely articulated. There are some really positive aspects of what we are doing. It would help enormously if there was some scoreboard pressure brought to bear for what have generally been positive 1st quaters. Sunday was very ordinary but even then we were somehow in the contest to the last 6 minutes. Still cannot grasp how that was the case but it was. Our % is pretty indicative of solid efforts. We need to keep putting context to our frenzy.

Not sure that was my point...but I've been posting on BF for a couple of years now, so perhaps I don't know what I mean anymore?

Maybe another tale, about Carlton and their experience with 'tried and tested' coaches...

Probably do Ok ;) not quite the same output as Clarko but as speculative appointments go it could prove to be a masterstroke...would certainly save a few dollars, give Robbo and Caro something to write about and give a whole new meaning to the magpies charity work

I was going to do an IGA analogy for the Gimp, something about being careful in replacing your deli manager lest you invite a salmonella outbreak. Wasn't sure how I'd fit gerbils into it, that'd take a more creative mind than mine.

Throw a gerbil my way you selfish ba.stard

It is just a case of same old same old with the forward inefficiency, It stands out like dogs balls why it is not working and It is this stupid press up that is causing 95% off the issues.
Memo to Bucks, when you push up your defenders and half backs to the centre square yes you play a lot of footy in your half of the ground, but it also means that there are usually 36 players in half a ground also, this is what is causing the congestion and leaving no room for our forwards to move with freedom.

How are Moore and others supposed to have an influence when there are half a dozen players under every high ball coming in? forward retention is great on a mud soaked ground where 8 goals will get you the win but in this day and age it is so easy to unlock what we are trying to do.

All the opposition need to do is release one kick out of defence and go back over the mark, as our players taxingly fold back to try and stop a fast break other opposition players become free as they hold ground around half back and then it becomes quite easy to work your way to at least the wing, we are actually screwing ourselves in so many ways with this stupid energy sapping way of playing.
This team is better than that and deserves better, rather than sitting up all night analysing stats and key indicators that mean bugger all in most cases maybe Mr Bullish should actually think about why we get beat the same way every time and why things are falling down structurally because the bloke is clearly on the wrong page and you would think one of the yes men he employs would have the balls to approach him on the frailties of his ideas.

That's more like it.. Gimpy's getting you now.

alternatively; the more experienced the IGA deli manager, the more they know how to steal the salami and dolmades without getting caught.

I'm saying we would be better off with an IGA deli manager for coach. But we need to choose our IGA deli manager wisely. Wait for the one who really knows his cheese.

Thread is starting to make some serious sense.

don;t think you're getting the full picture. I think you need to go for a store manager who has watched over several deli managers successfully, with record sales in cheese, pastrami and those fish thingys that taste like chicken. Someone who values quick aisle movement down the ccenter corridor and who cn handle the rough necks when they come in around closing time.
