My favorite part was when the anti-Buckley mob were quoting W-L numbers mid-season. Pretty sure some even said that it was the only stat that matters. Now all of a sudden they don't mean anything, wonder why that could be...

Because we missed Finals Yet Again under Bucks.

Pro-Bucks fans are happy that we continue to be Mediocre at best under bucks

I'm not counting game that highlights Buckley's tactically ineptness as improvement.

Sorry weren't you always on the wins and losses didn't matter train?

Funny how your tune changes to suit your agenda...

Correct - W/L was something I always thought was a ridiculous SINGLE metric on which to measure progress..
But pointing out the hypocrisy of those supporting it, who now want to say an improved W/L, changes nothing, is very important.

So now that Tactical ineptness is a metric, why dont we add credit to Bucks for all the TOP 8 coaches he out coached this season.
You are seriously clutching at straws sport

BTW my tune has not changed - All year, I have said that Buckley should not be reappointed if we don't make finals.

Great result today, but one game at the end of the football calendar when we literally have nothing to play for - doesn't make a season.

In a perfect world, thanks for your service Nathan.

But he'll be re-appointed, as we're all aware.
If you take that attitude, I feel sorry for you because if I thought that the players put on a jumper and not play to win every game, I don't think I would follow them.

Funny how the pro-Buckley mob (if these are the terms we are going by) now have their chest puffed out in some kind of vindication of the coach. Im sure at the start of the year you would of shouted so proudly from the rooftops that we would come away with 9 1/2 wins for this upcoming season.
Wow, what an achievement

Back the Bucks

Extension announcement imminent

NATHAN Buckley remains fatalistic over his future, conceding change at Collingwood is inevitable.

Asked if he might have coached the club for the 136th and last time, Buckley said: “Whether that’s the case or not, we’re only ever in the chair for a period of time.

“In 20 years time it will be very unlikely that any of us will be sitting in the same chairs and the players will have been turned over and will go.

“What the club stands for and what it is, is a representation of the people that are in it at the time.

You're missing the point, they're professionally paid athletes - this is their job. If you're not trying in your workplace on a day-to-day basis then you should be removed.

I meant that from a finals perspective, when the pressure is off - probably a more apt phrase - is what i'm referring to.

We are hit and miss and get on top of teams and lose, but to get on top of the teams eg Adelaide/Geelong/GWS we must have done something right and true to then lose or draw there is something wrong.
And again today leading with such a margin and see it erase.
I wish i had the answer to why this happens.

I agree he's not sabotaging the club deliberately or with intent yet we aren't progressing under his reign. This is obvious and can't be ignored.

I'm looking at everything in totality not on the back of 9 wins to 9.5- that's not improvement.
That's clutching at straws.

The club will ultimately decide on his future yet, people that think Nathan Buckley is bigger than Collingwood is my gripe.
In the same sense is going from 11-10-9 really a huge slide?

It has been stagnation whilst we turned over the list, there hasn't been the big spring board back up, but that is also a result of us not really collapsing. List builds are rarely linear.

It is much easier to jump from 4 wins to 7 and then 9 or 10 wins, but actually launching from 10 wins up to 12-13 is a harder prospect.

Nobody actually thinks N.Buckley is bigger than the club, some posters (myself included) think the stagnation over the last few years leaves the board with a tough choice. It is slightly below expectations, but not a complete disaster.

When you actually factor in how poor our administration and football department has been over the last few seasons, stagnating doesn't really look that bad.

Plenty of posters actually do think Buckley is putting himself ahead of the club though, and they are some of the loudest and more frequent posters in threads like these.

Nah, I didn't miss the point, your post was very clear. It is this post that I don't get!

Sorry but I'm not going give Bucks credit for getting it right only some of the time. Bit rich to call me clutching at straws when most of your arguments for Buckley are just that.

This might be a silly question?
Who thinks Nathan is bigger than the club?
That's a slur in my book.

I think people like Nathan because they see he has authority, has a plan, prepared to build the list, has the group loving him, has the group engaged, has the strength to make the decisions.
And ultimately the feeling is we are on the cusp of improvement and he will see it through.

Now some will disagree with that, fair enough, that's up to each person to form their own views.

Me? I support the Collingwood Football Club and it's coach (whoever that is). I support all of us succeeding.
I don't white ant, I don't bag mercilessly our personnel, and I always want us to succeed and win.

So to me, if my least favourite player, number 11, is selected I always want him to play well and succeed.
I don't need to be right.

And for what it's worth, I'm happy with having Nathan, I think we're on the way. We're building.

But ultimately it has to be the players that do it.

No Spin's post a couple above this one sums my point of view up pretty well with my post. Not against arguments against Buckley by any stretch but the amount of mundane simple "arguments" like the W/L record one thrown around this year has made for some painful reading.

We can now all agree that just looking at change in W/L records is a poor marker way to evaluate improvement or regression. Plenty of us have been saying that for weeks though only to be shut down because it apparently clearly showed another year of regression.

And the horse trainers make a trainer a prince but it was the cattle they where given to achieve that goal.

End of the day, all you can assess a season on is results.

Its the definitive measurement of every team in the competition. And the way we differentiate ladder position.

Wins & losses.
