Just out of curiosity why are labels being used eg "pro Buckley mob" or for that matter "anti Buckley"

Aren't we all just pro Collingwood.

Labels used with words like "mob" tend to gave a derogatory connotation.

Why not just discuss the issues, why the labels?

Not directed at you, it's at all the labelling.

Who made any one opinion better than any other?

Because i was responding to someone using that term. hence why i put it in brakets

Pretty sure Fergy got results
Always interesting when people post not in their strong suit.
Was very close to getting the chop actually.

Appointed November 1986

Won first title in 1992-1993

Manchester United were patient.

  • And in the EPL nearly always only the big mega rich clubs can win the title, Man U is one of those clubs.
So took about 6 years in a far more "easier" competition to win. (Need to be mega rich, no salary cap etc).

Interestingly when he got there he found too many of their better players had too much drinking, didn't train as they should ie poor attitudes.

But he got the show on the road and won 13 titles. But what did it, sure Sir Alex played a role, undeniable, as he has authority and was THE boss. But he had the big money, bought the elite talent.

Players first, coach distant second.

Hit the books then, Maggie5.
Not November yet.

Just came back from visiting friends and there was someone there that knows somebody that knows somebody and the word was Buckley two years, Roos mentor and Lever is all but signed.

SV's made a good point, unnecessary to label in that way. I'll go back and edit my original post.

Not really, the emotional investment is heightened with a favourite son, part of the territory.
I think a lot of posters think he is more Cain than Abel

(Like the pun work?)

Lever is an interesting one. Haven't quite done the ins and outs on that possible scenario yet - we'd have to overpay again surely?

Think we're all aware now that Nathan will be getting an extension, not deserved in any way IMO, but I digress.

I have had good mail from him before. Think we should have money in the cap it is just a matter of what we have to give up?

Don't doubt the validity of the information, just curious as to what we'd be having to give up.

Is pick 6 enough?

I'm really hesitant to cough up such a prized selection. Could we get it done just with players? Probably not.

Buckley should treat more games like he has nothing to lose, it might spark the hint of positional creativity we saw today.

Unfortunately for Bucks, incompetence and dysfunctionality has been the case more often than not with coaching, structure, tactics and game style. Nice to win today, but making calculated ruthless decisions leads to success, not sentimentality or being too scared to pull the trigger.

The smart decision for the club appears obvious and has been for a long while.

I think Buckley is likely to coach next year now. If Collingwood was bottom 4 this year he would be gone. I still don't rate Buckley's coaching but I am hoping he can get the team to finals next year.

Reckon there will be major changes around Buckley in the assistant coaches, recruiters etc.

Just as an aside, Sally Pearson coached herself to win the World Championships.

She also just won the diamond league in Zurich.

Just an interesting aside, self coaching.

(Also an excuse to think about Sally Pearson, just the best!)

We all do mate which is why Ed is one of us. He has that glint back in his eye, good times are coming

With due respect to you jamc70 Eddie is not one of any group I feel any connection to apart from the pies. He has certainly appeared over the years to be a passionate pies supporter, I assume that to be the case. He is also a very canny pollie, knows how to work the crowd. I'm happy the president of the pies is an avid supporter but thats not the most important critieria for that role, he needs to do an outstanding job of running the club and not to be the only one that is all over decsisions.

Id even suggest the Presidents role is to lead the board who in turn set the policy and over see the compliance and proprietary obligations of the club.

Leave the day to day running if the club to the CEO.

Football matters to be run by the Football Director.

The coach to coach and oversee the coaching group.

All the heads to report to the Board.

And because it's football, from time to time, the President is out there giving a little chin wag.

(Doesn't quite seem to happen that way..... )

I agree with you on pretty much all things Saintly but on this I tend to think mob does apply to some in the anti (not all) Full of personal abuse and baying for blood reminds me of a lynch mob in a b grade western

B grade western.

Ronald Regan did quite a few of those.

Have to admire the way Regan was always so positive about things.

Dear Ronnie did well for someone who was a b grade actor,
He did very very very well.

If it interests you, there are some great you tubes around of him getting roasted pre President says.
Plus some of his great jokes when President.

Was a great communicator - whatever your politics
