Have they though? Excluding Harley, the most unanimous #1 pick in history, since the flag we’ve nailed Hough at 31 and Shanahan at 30 and that’s it.

Archer Reid may still show to be a great pick but even then the counter argument is Logan Morris with the very next pick.

Challenging a statement with little to no evidence to support it is not posting rubbish.

Before this period we’ve shown a great ability to identify talent late so saying we had “f**k all” in 19 and 20 doesn’t excuse the fact that precisely 0 of 11 of those players remain on the list. Gov, Barrass, Cox were all great late/rookie selections in times gone by.

Chesser did not deliver what we would have expected when drafted, Ginbey has been good, HewEtt has shown glimpses but they also cost pick 2 and I wouldn’t say 23 was a “great” draft given the preface of the post excluded Harley who blind Freddie would have picked.

Probably a silly idea but:

To get rid if the bids and garbage, I would give every club access to pre-list one club tied player per season. We could have added Williams, GC get Uwland or Patterson etc.

The draft goes back to 18 picks per round. Free agency compo or assistance packages may result in the chance to pre-list a second player.

And tighten up the academy rules so players are being developed, if they aren't in the academy by their 16th birthday then they are in the open pool.

Hough and Shanahan as I said absolutely agree. Perhaps some of the others go higher but wouldn't call them nailed picks. As expected or slightly exceeded expectations sure there’s a couple, but not nailed. There’s also plenty that go lower.

I'm not even 'defending' the decisions made, considering I said numerous times I'd also have moved Cripps on for Banfield.

Bulldogs, Saints and WC have clearly been the best performed since then.

I’d say being at worse top 3 in that period gives a fair indication they know what they’re doing.

List doesn’t include the three DFAs we’ll add on Monday

McGovern and Sheed listed as ours but they were effectively replaced by McCarthy and Newton

That’s absurd. If we ranked Phoenix Gothard at #1 and took him instead of Harley I think it’s fair to say that would demonstrate an inability to rank players.

In regard to your request as I said, we’ve nailed two, maybe three picks where to date they have shown far more than could be expected but feel free to sift through draft guru yourself.
