Since we kick so much won't our disposal efficiency likely always be lower than average? Is there a separate kicking efficiency stat somewhere?
Walsh was talking about this on 5AA, we try to kick longer and don't chip it around. If we chipped it around our efficiency would improve

PW did say in his AA interview that apparently Champion_Data has us as the second-highest team for missing a target under no pressure. Clearly not good enough.

This is the key. Bugger DE% stats our game style will give a lower % because we kick more. It's all about minimising turnovers. We start doing that and we'll start beating the better teams.

That and kicking straighter for goal.

Apparently we have three of the top 10 players for ambidextrous kicking in the league. By top 10 they don't mean best kicks, it's just how often a player uses their non-preferred foot. Unfortunately there is no breakdown regarding how effective those kicks are. Would be very interesting to see.

Interesting, Danger registers in the top 10 for lots of key stats. Slow start but in some very good form, some might even consider him a top 10 player in the league.
Brown conceding 0.6 goals against his opponent.
Laird also doing very well.

Dangers is ranked second this year for Total player ranking points, fair way behind Fyfe though.

He's having a great year easily top 10 in the Comp.

I'm almost convinced Thompson and Dangerfield have some sort of bet on regarding this over the past year or so.

It's very rare to see Danger use his right foot on the 'left side' of the ground these days, he can hoof it a good 45m while being arguably more accurate than his right. I think Thommo has sought to improve his kicking on the left due to losing pace, as at one point he was getting caught swinging onto his preferred quite frequently.

In terms of other players, Betts of course seems to be properly ambidextrous, Jenkins and Walker aren't far off it, while Grigg, Charlie and Mackay have become notably more inclined to kick on their opposite sides IMO. Even Smith hit a target on his left on the weekend.

While it's nice that they can all kick well with their "wrong" foot, I'd much rather them be able to hit a target with their "natural" foot once in a while. Thommo & Danger - I'm looking at you!

Interesting.

Not sure what to make of that. VB's total of 25 pts generated is one of the lowest on that list and the number of total turnovers generated is the lowest on that list. At the end of the day though, we need to be comparing how he performs relative to his own teammates - and apparently he's our #1 player in this particular facet of the game.

Goes some way towards explaining why the coaches love him so much.

Yeah I completely missed this, and agree that while his numbers aren't particularly good it might be why the coaches have kept him in the team.

Would be good to see how the rest of our list compares.

Maybe we share the load on pressure much more than other teams?

Would be interesting to see the top 3 from each team.

It's hard to draw too many conclusions, given that the table only lists the #1 player at each club. We know we're one of the worst in the league when it comes to the opposition scoring from our turnovers, we have no real idea where things stand with our own ability to score from opposition turnovers. We know that VB is #1 in generating scores from turnovers, we don't know how far behind him our other players are, or who those other players are (my guess is that Wright would also feature high on the AFC list). We don't even know how his 16 turnovers generated for the season stacks up against his fellow teammates.

It's an interesting statistic and one which is in VB's favour. I'm sure the coaches would look at the number of turnovers a player generates. Points generated from those turnovers is nice, but probably more dependent on where those turnovers happen and thus not such a strong indicator of a player's performance.

That said, I'm hesitant to read much into it at all. It's an interesting statistic, but without a proper context it's not overly useful.

We were worse last year? Seems like it but don't have the stats.

Ummm ... look at the only teams below us, and that is with us playing a fairly lower-ranked set of teams so far this year :-(

PS - wait till Collingwood play a few good teams and we will see how they drop down that list

Really quite damning that there are no tall defenders there. They should be killing this stat. I know Hartigan, Lever and Kelly haven't played every game but hopefully they emerge during the season.

Talia should be No 1 in this. Plays too selfishly at the moment.

From Roby's power player rankings thread on the main board:

"Thompson I think must be underrated. Ranks:
  • 4th in the league for average clearances per game
  • 6th in the league for average contested possessions per game
  • 7th in the league for average tackles per game
  • 3rd for average inside 50's at Adelaide
  • 1st for average disposals per game at Adelaide
  • 2nd at Adelaide ranked by Champion Data"
Not bad for an old, slow, on his last legs midfielder.
