Im not sure id go McCarthy as he seems to be the second best of a bad bunch of talls this year. Its another midfielders draft. So best available!

I dont think either player would be in our 2014 best 18, so we wouldn't want to be giving up much for them when there will be hidden gems in the draft. At least White is a UFA and wont require a trade.

Matt White had a decent year and we're not recruiting him to be a star, just a 15-30 ranked type player on our list with a unique trait. He's also tracking an upward curve atm.

Your argument on wasting list space on them as opposed to picking up a "hidden gem" late in the draft is ridiculous. Maybe you don't know what hidden means. It means you can't see them. You don't know which kid with flaws/alot to work on will come good in the future. That's the point.

So we'll try for a "hidden gem" in the draft with our third pick and rookie spots, and fill a couple more spots with matt white/maguane/polec/monfries/whoever types. And in the future when the time is right, hopefullly a Hardwick/Dale Thomas/Dal Santo type.

as i said in the phantom draft thread Marsh is a much better selection than McCarthy or Freeman at our pick, was a touch surprised with the time he ran, when you watch him in the WAFL you just think he's running away from average KPD's, but that is proper quick. he's a risky selection but wow if we were to land White, Flynn and Marsh in one offseason.... if they ever play in the same 22 we would be one of quickest teams in the comp. would be another gutsy pick. i do like him he has potential to be the best in the draft, also could be delisted just as easily.

Also Ben Brown suits us much more than Thorp in my view.

agree 100%, i have the slight feeling he sort of defaulted into first round picks because it's so hard to compare mid's to forwards. most people think a KPF is sure to be a requirement for someone in the first round so he is just put there for that reason... only a feeling though not as dominant as you would want from a first round KPF. he is outperformed by next years crop nearly already.

Don't disagree, would love him to be at Port. However I think it is an indication of what teams would have to part with to get Boyd.

Freo seem desperate for their next KPF. Wouldn't be surprised to see them pay overs for Boyd. Fyfe is overs imo. Almost the best mid in the comp i reckon. Give it 2 more years when Gaz has slowed down and I reckon he will be #1.

Most would. The footy world views Hartlett (more or less correctly) as an underachiever relative to his talent. Fyfe is about as hot as hot property gets at the moment.
