Does anyone remember the Atari days. Their were many great games that I never got sick of including River raid, Pac man, froggo, space invaders, Pitfall and Hero.

Do you still have your Atari, and if so, does it work, and when was the last time you used it?

Great topic!

We bought an Atari when it first came out, only cos we hassled the old man. Cost about $300 in '82 I think. Way overpriced.

Used to love playing it, the games were primative by todays standards but none the less fun.

Its parts died pretty rapidly, had to replace the joysticks and the power supply. Eventually the console buggered up and by then we found a console at Myers for $20.

I wish I knew where it was, we were planning an 80's party and I wanted to set up an Atari for people to muck about with.

I had an Atari... the first in a long saga. The Commodore 64, the Sega Master System, The Mega Drive, The Playstation, The Dreamcast and hopefully soon .. PSX 2

Playstation 2 .. The Third Place!

I was raised on a 2600 :)

My favs were Combat, Q-bert, Missile Command, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Moon Patrol, and Pitfall.

I don't know what happened to our console; it's been almost 20 years since we had it, but I downloaded an Atari 2600 emulator to play on the PC. It's not quite the same thing (no carpal-tunnel square joystick) but it does play like the real thing otherwise.

Oh god...I am 16 yet I remember the humble beginnings of gaming which we called the Atari! :D

I owned an Atari 2600, and I had Frogger, and a million other games. My favorite was Basketball, which actually was stick figures playing netball! :D

I also loved Tennis, which was two stick figures with a line in the middle of the court, and they had a circle on the end of their arm...

Great memories, and I still have it buried in the back of my cupboard!

The Hitman

The Atari 2600 rocked!!! Games like Pitfall were fantastic!
I even remember the long awaited release of Double Dragon on Atari with stick figures going around the screen, but it was fun :)

ah.. double dragon...
now that was an alltime fave game of mine...
with 40c, my mate and i would stay on the arcade machine for ages~~~

well, with a few more 20c's thrown in... (thanks to that feckin bridge we had to jump, and fall into)... and the bastard at the end with a gun.... and then the final showdown, u against the partner, to see who gets the gal at the end... ahah..

the power of the elbow ~~~

I never had the Atari :( but had a Commodore 64. My friends and I used to have heaps of fun on it. I had a basketball game where Dr. J played Larry Bird one on one. Their was stunt car racer which was one of my all times faves. The graphics sucked obviously but it was still a great game. Had tennis and golf which were so easy to win at. Anyone remember ghost busters and Batman they came eith the console. We have come along way since then in game technology, which I guess really is a good thing :)

hehe this is a great thread like the one which brought up memories of old 'Degrassi High' again :)

My cousin had Atari but I was a Nintendo girl myself and had the very first one which ever came out and still do actually...in fact i never brought another one since (only the very first gameboy which came out) as every damn year they just seemed to bring out more and more expensive versions that got more difficult every time. It's amazing how we went from simple stick figures to all these flashy graphics that they have now which look like u r watching a movie. Give me basic Mario Bros anyday and i could play for hours again just like when i was little! :D

I had an Atari, My favourite games were in order, Pitfall, Froggers, River Raid & Chopper.
Playstation have Froggers & Pitfall which was really good because I could play them again, but I no longer have access to a playstation, is there somewhere I can download them & play them on my PC.

Cheers

Hahaha....i clocked all the Mario games!! They were damn cool!! I remember having a C64 when i was a kid. Used to love the Summer Games and Winter Games where i used to kick my sister's arses!! lol There was also a mad game called Impossible Mission which was a platform kinda game with lifts and stuff!! Oh those were the days...we had a tape and it took the games an eternity to load!! hahah. And the Atari...River Raid was my all-time favourite!!

Now...my little brother plays PC games like Counter-Strike, and Playstation 2 ... damn. Wish i had those games when i was a little tacker! :D

Yeah I was addicted to the 2600 many many many years ago. :D My fave game was undoubtedly Moon Patrol. :D I can still remember the music that went along with it, lol. I liked Asteroids too, it used to bug me though, don't remember why exactly, it just did.

Our Atari died, if I recall, ummmmmmmmmm just sat in the cupboard for years, then just never worked again and went to the tip.

My big brother used to have one ages ago...I can't remember much, but pitfall was definately the best game.

I had a vic 20, Amstrad 128D (with those annoying 3 inch disks) and C64 - with cassette drive.....

now.....

my wife had an Atari 2600 from 1981 I think. We still have it.

It is still in its box (it has been used)

the box is in good nick.

We have a few games (Space Invaders, Asteroids etc) also still in their box with a nice plastic bag for each cartridge.

I think it will be worth a bit one day !

"DESTROY HIM...MY ROBOTS!!" yeah td I remember it well :D - great game, but who can forget the one that started it all? - PONG!

Two paddles that controlled two bars, in turn, knocked a little dot on the screen backwards and forwards to each other. Amazing!! (at that time of course).
Haven't we come along way in a short amount of time? Imagine what the games will be like in 15 years!

Yeah! Atari!

Pitfall - loved it
River Raid - loved it
There was thing with flying birds called Joust - that was a fave
But the daddy of them all was Decathlon - so many blisters trying to crack 10 seconds for the 100m.

Wish I still had it ...

Oh well - hooray for emulators.

Btw, whoever mentioned "Defender Of The Crown" in the other thread - great game!
