The fact he didn’t go and check with VAR and just delivered a red says everything we needed to know.

I doubt there would be an issue for the on field ref. He called it as he saw it. He got it wrong but he made the call. Referees will sometimes get things wrong - that's why we have VAR for critical things like red cards / penalties / offside. VAR let the referee down badly in this case.


Tierney though would be getting some VAR retraining behind closed doors. Really should have been on the radio right away saying "this doesn't look like a red card, come over and review it on the monitor". This sort of scenario is exactly where VAR is needed to step in. Doesn't exactly help with future Tierney / Klopp relations either.

The bloke who whacked Robbo is assistant VAR for our game again this week. I guess because he wasn't the one making the final call he gets to keep his job this week.

I strongly suspect having signed the experienced option in Endo we won't be looking at Paulinha or Amrabat.

When was the last time we actually signed a player direct from the Brazilian league? Their names always pop up but I don't think it's likely.

Thuram and Koné links have gone cold.

I've read release clauses for Brazilian league players are only activated at the end of the season. In other words unless we get them to agree an early release we can't get him until January.

When was the last time we actually signed a player direct from the Brazilian league? Their names always pop up but I don't think it's likely.

The last one I can think of off the top of my head that actually had any kind of impact is Lucas.

I don’t think Jota up front has been great either. Gapko playing Firmino’s role is better or play Nunez.

I'd prefer Jota and Diaz to rotate on the LW. Start Gakpo CF, then give us Nunez later in the game for some chaos.
